  1. You have a DM 🤘
  2. Option 2 sounds best (and most affordable) for now as mountains are far and few in-between here 😆😆 Option 3 - Shimano derailleur and hub then? Any Shimano is better than L-Twoo, right?
  3. a close up of the chain at full strecth
  4. @RobertWhitehead - tell me more here buddy....I am now sukkeling with chainslap on the bike (specially in the small gear and when you are pedalling hard and then stop, the chain runs ahead and then returns to its place as if its not under enough tension to keep it in position) - tried with the bike on a stand as well, and the same happens. Maybe also to add, when you start pedalling (from coasting, etc...) it takes a bit of a while/rotation of the pedals before the drivetrain engages it seems. This cant be normal?
  5. A google search also mentioned something about a 'clutch' issue? Is this bike even equipped with a clutch?
  6. Chain is pretty tight in the biggest gear so (I did have issues engaging that gear previously which DVC cycles fixed supposedly, and since then the slap has been more evident)
  7. I am up north, near Hoorn (Medemblik gemeente) - chain is pretty tight in the biggest gear so (I did have issues engaging that gear previously which DVC cycles fixed supposedly, and since then the slap has been more evident)
  8. Ola! Are people still posting on this thread outcheaa? 😎 Living in the NL 🇳🇱 for the passed 2 months, ex Cape Town and I need advice on my MTB chain/rear derailleur issue I have - if anyone can reach out it'd be appreciated 👍 (bought the bike at Durbanville Cycles new in 2022, but the issue materialized now when I arrived 😬)
  9. I have a '22 model that hasn't had much off-road action and has been serviced by Durbanville cycles since I purchased the bike. It's always had some chain slack when in the small rear gear (it's a 1 x 12 L-Twoo set up) and if you're pedalling at high RPMs and stop pedalling, the chain lunges forward then resets itself (tested when on a bike service frame too) 2nd issue is that when you push down on the pedal after coasting it doesn't engage the rear wheel/power immediately. There's a slight lag before the power is engaged. Any ideas on what is happening? I'm in the NL 🇳🇱 now so I can't take back to DVC 🙄
  10. Solid advice, much appreciated 👍 Cheers @Sydd and @W@nted 🙌 It's gonna be 6⁰ tomorrow, no wind or rain... sounds like riding weather 😎 Took these this arvie behind my house....lovely clear skies....canal frozen over....stunning tbh....defs not Jozi or Cape Town 😁
  11. Hardcore.....and I ain't got Zwift 😲....ok, regarding the ice, you'll probs not even see it right? Also, how do you know if a surface has been 'salted' ? Proper rookie here and advice welcomed. I took a walk to the shops today, and these bricks in the road are super slippery even without ice. Can't imagine when it's frozen over.
  12. Thank you! Yeah this week is proper icy 😁, mates back in Cape Town are rolling up Chapmans Peak in 34⁰c before lunchtime
  13. Shot, thanks. Picked up a pair of Walfort 700 - 35c (or 37 - 622 sized) rubber this weekend; gonna give em a test run (not the most pricey to be fair, but a good start) Today was a fair bit colder than last week (-1⁰ but dry and no wind) so it's gonna be a chilly outing tomorrow me thinks 🤣
  14. My old hood (2 months ago since I've been there 👊🏼)
  15. Ok, I've been out on a few short rides....really good actually. About 8⁰c, and some wind on day 1 and rain, yesterday was awesome though. My tires are not suitable though....MTB knobblies suck on clay paving bricks in the wet....any advice on what to go for?
  16. That's great, thank you. Sizewise, they seem to come in 28" ..... Or 700c (or 622) now the confusion sets in proper 🤣🤣
  17. Gelukkige laat verjaarsdag kortgat @KB280DT .....lol, here's a Dutch version of that - Gelukkige verjaardag korte kont 🤣🤣🤣
  18. 💯 Agree, other apps simply haven't grabbed attention like Strava the OG has 😎👊🏼
  19. Took me on my Cherry popping ride in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 - MTB knobblies on slick AF paving + cobblestones in 6⁰c weather.....and yes, I frikkin loved it! No wind, no rain so it was actually very pleasant. Coming from Cape Town thats peaking at 35⁰c at the minute it is an adjustment..... (Any tips on what rubber to replace these tyres with?)
  20. Good laugh, and yet I still love hitting a fave segment with horns up if the conditions are good to see if there's any silverware waiting for me after the ride. Zone 2 with the missus 😂😂 we've all been there.....some lame excuse as an activity header because well, we were actually not firing on all 6 cylinders and the NOS tank was empty 😂😂
  21. I've moved to the Netherlands and have just started riding my MTB on a daily commute; these road surfaces (slick clay-type paving bricks) are a nightmare to ride on with MTB knobblies, and 10x worse in the wet (most days then) Can't seem to find any suitable guidance on what to replace them with, any advice Hubbers?
  22. Ok, so I've arrived in the NL 🇳🇱 and have been here for 1 month and 2 days 🤣....zero cycling as the container arrived 7 days ago and I'm just in my place where we're renting. About 10km from Hoorn which is a magnificent city about 45km from Amsterdam (up north) . So the cyclists here are wild, brave, epic and absolutely fearless.....the old adage about there only being poor cycling gear and never poor cycling weather sounds about right 👌🏼💪🏻 These guys hit the road in every single weather element you can consider, and they're genuinely not fussed about it. Hop off the bike at the shop, it's raining cats and dogs, no worries - brush your hair back and off you go. My MTB is going out for a roll this weekend 🙏🏻
  23. In other news, the local "time to send it" wind sock in Blouberg has other plans....
  24. Must be a switchback headwind 😆
  25. Shot, thanks @W@nted, will defs reach out. Our plans are coming to a finality it seems. Embassy appt booked or the 9th, then 10 days for stamps and then we should be off. Partner starts work 1Dec, just in time for winter 😆.... While she works I'll have some time to do a few recces and check the lay of the land.
