  1. Great for the guy starting in D, what does it matter to you anyways? Warning to you Janneman. Dont incite and dont insult. Thank you.
  2. Perhaps rather spend your time learning to bunny or J hop, I don't think you will come right with the RAF. I also had some bad falls on my MTB, it's part of the game and a risk you're taking when you start with MTB'ing. Sorry to hear about your fall though. I think the most of us, especially MTB'ers, have been there.
  3. Well mostly MTB'ing for now, first the Sani2C which requires a lot of training I think, then the Oyster fest MTB and Road. After that the Kremetart and Jock and then the cycle starts all over again with the Amashova, 94.7 but this time we added the MTB event as well, Jacaranda etc. Also in the interim a few Babbas Lodges and Redstones.....
  4. Hi Spat The Argus being the Argus with Boyes drive, perhaps wind and everything I'm aiming at about a 3:08 - 3:15. The Argus is not as flat as the R4S, FastOne etc... If I want to go faster than the group I will have to drop them somewhere and find faster ones OR ride alone(with all the wheel suckers these days I can just as well ride alone, same as riding in front for 90% of the races anyways) but it will be better to ride in a group. Thanks PeterM, I didn't think about that. Will certainly keep it in mind.
  5. I'm starting in group U this year but only started to cycle 8 months back after a few years of not cycling which caused my seeding not to be great but I'm a good cyclist. According to Racetec, Group U will only finish with a time of about between 3:25 and 3:36. I have done the Argus 6 times before and I'm fitter now than ever and normally win the local race group that I start in and average at least 37kmh on all gauteng races more than 100km. What do you guys suggest I do for the Argus in order to get my 3:05 time or similar, I'm not going to pull the group the whole 110km's! Anyone else with the same fitness level in group U or V and the same problem? Ideas and advice welcome.
  6. No worries, I'm 1.74m and 89kgs and I love climbs, normally i break the bundle on climbs...It's all about your weight power ratio at the end of the day. If you weight less you have less muscle as well.
  7. 1.74m and 89kg, 110% happy with my weight power ratio and performance:) 54cm Cannondale Road Bike M Cannondale MTB
  8. This will be my 6th Argus, nearest was a 3:04 in 1997 but I stopped and helped my buddy who bonked 5km's before the end and missed my sub 3...So it's still haunting me, aiming for a sub 3 in 2012 though, not this year...
  9. In the Gauteng area there's plenty of them....PM me if you want more info.
  10. They should show the "difficulty factors" (0.8, 0.95, 1 & 1.3) for each race with your calculation.
  11. No rush, just keen on my seedings
  12. Hi I noticed that the PPA seeding didn't get calculated yet. Shouldn't it happen on the first Wednesday of every month? I'm waiting for my Ride 4 Sight to be added
  13. Beer is good for you! The important thing to remember is to have beers the night before and even more beers after the race especially after the Argus you need to find the nearest beer tent and wait for your buddies to come in. The preferred approach will be if you can do the Argus in 3 hours and start at 6:30 and have a buddy or family member who can do the Argus in 6 hours and only start at 10am it's even better, this will allow you 6 and a half hours of quality beer tent time!

I thought the same thing! Anyways, I use MotionX GPS on my iPhone 4 and it works like a charm!
  15. Hi Frosty Thanks for the reply, I started in EL and made my sub-3 easily with almost 15 mins.... What an awesome race, well organised, marshals were good, great route, had a breakaway at the end which actually worked, nice head wind at the end etc. GREAT STUFF AND WE'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!
  16. I threw my banana peel next to the road into a gutter this morning on my way out with the MTB, and a lady was pointing her finger at me??? What do you guys think? Should banana peels be kept or can it be thrown away next to the road...its biodegradable...
  17. Averaged the FastOne about 35kmh and the R4S at about 37kmh(weird but true, FastOne is not THAT fast), do you think the Carnival will be faster in order for me to do a sub 3, I would like a 2:45 on the Carnival though......
  18. Honestly, if you stay in the USA why not go for Cannodale which should be much cheaper there and will suite your budget. Anything from a CAAD10 to Super Six(depending on your budget) will do. They are absolutely great bikes. Both my MTB and Road bikes are Cannondales, even one of my buddies who is well known in road cycling sold his Dogma for a SuperSix. You can't go wrong! With the money you saved add perhaps Zipps or Easton wheels to the Cannondale, will make a huge difference!
  19. ITS NOT ABOUT THE BIKE, ITS ABOUT THE RIDER!!!! I almost did sub 3 in 1995 with a 11kg+ bike but check this out from www.cycletour.co.za, so we have no excuses! 1979 Captour requested WPPPA to move the date of the Tour to coincide with the Cape Town festival. Six months later, on 21 April, 1979 the second Argus Cycle Tour was staged, attracting nearly double the number of entrants, 999, with over 100 under the age of 15. 760 finished. Hans Degenaar won in 2:52:38. Janice Theis knocked nearly an hour off her time, winning the ladies section in 3:36:46.
  20. This is my thoughts exactly, hence the reason I wondered about it
  21. Is Boyes drive where the extra 5 km's comes from as well? Should add more than 3-5 minutes then I suppose.
  22. 5-10 minutes are doable I suppose but anything more than that will be too much to cut down.
