  1. Try Old Mutual Insure, for my 30k mtb I pay R125. Covered as an all risk item, meaning claim under any circumstance besides 'spupidity' .. as is don't leave your bike unattended where it could get stolen. Recently claimed for my gopro and was settled within 3 days
  2. As per the title, does it help the website's income if we actively click on Banner Adds. With the web cookies prompting you adds relative to recent searches, should we a community be popping those adds for the better on 'our' site ?
  3. Not comparable to the JBL Partybox 100 you noted in the opening post, but the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom Portable Speaker at Takelot for R999.Bought it last year after it was rated the best budget speaker by some tech magazine, i use it daily with my laptop and phone. Still considering getting a second speaker as you can connect 2 simultaneously, good battery life and its waterproof. I see there is a newer model for a bit more Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 for r1400
  4. Have 2 action cams, usage is fairly often but not only cycling. Body boarding, snorkelling, trail runs, beach with kids, holidays. The Garmin Virb has the GPS data included which makes your rides and runs videos much more interesting, can link heart rate and cadence which adds more data to the visual.
  5. Recently redone by MTB insurance, started with Cyclesure, Outsurance, Miway, I was shocked by some of the numbers I saw. Ended up with old trusted Mutual insure that wrote me up at R119 for R30 000 for All risk, meaning theft, damage, in race, not in race, etc .. fully covered. Added on my Gopro that is somewhat permanently on the bike now for R25 for R8000.
  6. Wow - unbelievable poor service... and you are a patient man.
  7. Why buy from someone with a 40% trader rating... the negative feedback is fairly old but i would of been extra cautious.
  8. I'll pm you some details, she use to manage Howzit sports. she will be able to assist and she is fairly close to you.
  9. Evan, what area you located ?
  10. Not trying to put any shop down but here is my personal view of the shops close to me, and fairly close to Newlands. Crown Cycles - Love them, will always support them, but workshop turn around time is too slow for me. Olympic Cycles - Big on Service, but they overpriced, i don't support them. Bridge Cycles - 1 too many horror stories Trail & Tar - Love them, quick workshop turn around time, like the transparency of the workshop, will always try to assist on the fly if possible. Maybe not the cheapest but high service driven.
  11. Trail and Tar in Tokai has been my go to for last couple years. I pass a few bike shops on my way to them, you should give them a go.
  12. Activated my Mtb insurance on R30 000 replacement value @ r120 per month with access of R500 with OMInsure (old Mutual and Federal) Called MIway and got quoted almost double that amount, with 10% of claim value as access ! Also called Cyclesure who quoted me R188 p/m
  13. Road route mapping from your location should be easy but taxi avoidance will be tricky. Perhaps mention how much climbing/elevation you want to include
  14. I bought 12 items on BF and so far received 3 notifications of no stock. It seems all other items has been despatched.
  15. Daily deal - Takelot today. Did not buy it, sharing. https://www.takealot.com/cycle-ops-training-thong/PLID41836754
  16. We were with the latter riders on the day.. so likely it was just a stock issue.. no biggy. I think my awareness was more heightened by the lack of portable loos as my female fellow cycling needed to pee.. eventually she strip down and pee'd in the bush. Lesson learn - no more bibs on the trails.
  17. As most have pointed out, parking was a bit challenging but we got there early and settled in with ample time. Not a single toilet on the 50k route, is this normal for Dirtopia events ? Yes we in nature and all but ... not a single loo. I generally don't stop or eat much at water points, but they were a bit 'weak' for lack of better word. I can say with certainty, i surely did not see an bread as advertised.
  18. Not answering any of the above but something i noticed as a new gopro user is that a gopro battery is not that expensive. r339 on Takelot atm. Generally a battery lasts about 2.5hrs so ill def be looking at getting another for longer outings.
  19. You might want to look into a camera that has a GPS, it allows for data overlays that adds so much more to your video footage. See pic. My previous camera was a Garmin Virb Elite, paid R1700 years back that had amazing data capability. Added a cadence sensor, heart rate monitor.. it was really awesome to track your h/r while watching the vid.
  20. Yeah, i agree i was impressed with them when i ordered a stem and handlebar recently, next day delivery. Ordered a wheel afterwards and it took a little while, i do understand its built on order so waiting it out.
  21. Ill add in what i don't like about the bike shops around me, is having to wait for couple of days cause they working out of a queuing system. Perhaps consider some sort of virtual booking system i.e. i'm in the que but i have my bike to ride up until the day or day before i bring it in. I don't know the full history of BMC in Cape Town but their business in primarily service and not sales. Good luck.
  22. Bibs for road and mtb-ing.. recently received a corporate shorts from work and had it converted to a bid before the mtb cycle tour.
  23. Hi Naas, any chance this is going on promo. Looking to buy in the next week. https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/groupsets/sram-gx-eagle-groupset-175mm-1x12.html
