  1. Pleasure .... BRU! Pink like potatoes? ... Ja, over there .....
  2. Sensitive much? Dry yer eyes man and read the post clearly, was a general post, no assumption. Promise guv. Ah cool, no worries. Yeah on the shoes. That could be an issue, but it's not something I've experienced. As long as the ratchets are kept clean. Velcro straps are fuss free by comparison, FA brought out a really nice pair of shoes for the price with velcro straps.
  3. Own pedals yeah, works out easier and safer. Get guys pitching up who ride Time, VP, SPD, Crank bros and a variety of other generic cleat brands. Nigh on impossible to cater for everything. Also people tend to have different tension adjustments on their own pedals, if the pedal has that feature.
  4. Maybe one of those reasons is people trying on stuff and ordering the same online after milking the shop's time and input. I think he may have meant ratchets like the old toe clip straps that come on bikes. Have to agree, they're horrible as you need to pull your foot out backwards to get out of them. If you go this route, consider a single strap across the pedal like this http://bicycling.about.com/od/equipmentreviews/fr/power_grips.htm Easy enough to make your own as well though.
  5. ... may as well ride a fixie ...
  6. Haven't done J2C, but from all the accounts of people who have done both, it seems to be the preferred event as far enjoyment goes. Also the general consensus is that they two completely different kinds of events, so what is it that you're looking to get out of either of them, what's important you from a riding perspective. Epic, more of a challenge and achievement. J2C, more social and enjoyment. For lack of a better description. Given your quote above though, perhaps you've answered your own question as far as 2013 goes.
  7. It's tragic for sure and very few can know what the family is going through. End of the day though, at some we're all responsible for our own actions and the calculated risks taken. Equally though it's low to attack the cyclist who died. No one can say if this would be his action, as he's dead. Obviously. It's the family taking legal action, and rightly or wrongly it may well be their way of seeking closure. It's tragically sad and hopefuly they can move past it.
  8. As a general rule OEM spec tyres should be given the boot to a dusty corner as a spare for emergencies. Serias ...
  9. Very rare to find any country that accommodates this 100%, Germany is most likely the best example. Thats also limited though. Biggest issue seems to be planning, lots of people complaining but no engagement, fortunately Jhb has recently started investigating cycle infrastructure. One of the key issues being looked at is getting trains to accommodate bicycles especially. Gov/council is slowly coming round to the concept and importance of cycle commuting/transport. Edit: Of course this doesn't help the OP who is in CT
  10. To quote from the site "uncool" ... wondering about the shots on the banner as well now. Stayed at Roc 'n Rope years back, used to climb in Boven regular, lots of potential out there!
  11. Try out XCO, short format technical racing. Couple of events are starting up now...
  12. "Critical Mass is a cycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities around the world.[1] The ride was originally founded in 1992 in San Francisco.[2] The purpose of Critical Mass is not usually formalized beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and traveling as a group through city or town streets on bikes" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass
  13. Reading the letter and the respondents it's addressed to, the whole thing seems to be more than just about LA.... http://a.espncdn.com/pdf/2012/0613/armstrongcharges.pdf
  14. Maybe it was scam, check if she arrived at the event in a white Pajero. Call JB for backup, he's fond of applying the odd PK
  15. Consider a lighter variation of what you currently have, plus you'll in all likelihood will have some change left over. Also weigh up the pros of less to go wrong with the bike and less maintenance.
  16. In line with what you described your requirements as, the Serfas, the Olympics are more towards riding than multipurpose.
  17. He also got arrested later, the NZ cops tracked him down. He gave himself up because they managed to track him down, he still the audacity to make a douchebag statement of the media being at fault. Knob wasn't sorry, he was just sorry he got caught.
  18. Cape Storm store in Bryanston has winter gear. Next door to Sandwon Pre-Owned
  19. Chris you old pirate ....
  20. Summed up by dieV, ehrm 'TheV'
  21. Could've fooled me The key issue was how the rules were applied on the day the day and how it was dealt with after. Which is what was covered. Not the rivalry between xy and zed, although reading this thread folk would think it was all about personal claims and two teams alone. Which it wasn't.
  22. It was, some of the scenes were like images from the Somme in WWI, just brightly clad MTBers. No lives, just minds and bike bits.
  23. That's cuz I are better wif eine camera buttons. Less of them than a keyboard...
  24. In line with MichaelD's and Stevief's post, yeah agreed. Although imo, it could well have been an oversight during the mayhem on the day of that stage.
