  1. Really hope he comes right, such a pain!
  2. It's not a nice thing to happen at all. Although far from an indication of the venue's safety, it's a busy place and with the thousands that pass through Groenies lets hope this one incident is nipped quickly. What do the Groenkloof guys say? Management hasn't changed as far as I know, it's still David.
  3. Critical Mass Joburg. On June 29th we owned the streets! Couple more shots ... http://www.galloimages.co.za/event/critical-mass-joburg/151144
  4. Yes, but the broadcast schedule on screen shows 14:30.
  5. Nice one Tim, actually read your column in the Star this morning.
  6. Actually that's not true, there's only one or two people at CSA earning a salary. Most of the positions are voluntary. We do have a say through our club/provincial memberships. How many of us actually attend any club meetings/agms to give inputs? There are a lot of committed people at CSA and the affiliates who volunteer a lot of time and dedication, often this does get countered by some really poor decision making. Like a lot of the subterfuge surrounding this olympic selection unfortunately.
  7. Ya, response will be interesting. Think this was a predictable result though, given past hearings, think it highlights a need for a neutral sports arbitration body.
  8. That Shamus character soaks his eggbeaters in milk stout. It is not a myth, I has seen it!
  9. You don't really need anything above moderately fit. The pace is super chilled, it's not a race, there are no indemnities, races numbers etc
  10. At 5k, 26r will give you a far better spec value and ride.
  11. Little bit drawn out in parts, but an awesome show. Brilliant insights from Phillipe Brunel!
  12. I'm sure, and a lot other emotive chatter from everyone else most likely. Prefer the details covered in the article though. However this goes, it's going to cause angst for any of the athletes concerned. Still it shouldn't be ignored either.
  13. See on the weekend Sport Live ran an article on the issue, seems things are still far from resolved. "Time-trial cycling ace Cherise Taylor may take Cycling SA (CSA) to court after she was omitted from the women’s road cycling team for next month’s London Olympic Games. Her attorney, Peter Assenmacher, claimed on Friday that CSA had deviated from communicated selection criteria. “This may compel my client to approach the High Court on an urgent basis.” The multiple South African champion and Beijing Olympian was excluded from the original three-rider women’s road cycling team selected by CSA. CSA vice-president Mike Bradley on Friday said he could not comment on the merits of the case, as an appeal hearing would take place in Johannesburg on Monday." Full story soused below... http://www.sportlive.co.za/moresport/cycling/2012/06/23/local-cyclist-may-approach-court?utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=sabreakingnews&utm_source=twitter
  14. So what did SW say? ... I mean clearly if it's that big a deal, it was brought up with the management there?
  15. The thing of living in Jhb is that for really proper riding, we have to drive. It's a given. Even Thaba, Modders, Rietvlei, Kings Kloof etc are quite a drive for people from other parts of town. Being based in Magalies you should perhaps speak to Erik from van Gaalen. Over 8 years he's developed those trails around there into a mecca of riding and is always approachable for input/assistance. 30 rand isn't too bad, but it does need to be tied into some kind of value system. Trails take time and continuous effort, start with what you have and perhaps build in one two sections. There's been some good suggestions on the forum already. What the Magalies area offers, is great wide open riding. As close as is possible to wilderness trails, this is one of the appeals of van Gaalen and Chicken Pie, for me. In fact that on it's own is worth the drive, which really isn't that bad.
  16. Small, Medium, Large... people are different, so why not have the wheel sizes to accommodate that alongside frame sizing and geometry. Gives people the opportunity to fine tune and have a selection of what they are comfortable with. Like Tankman said, horses for courses.
  17. Wrong, you had an issue and a number of others also countered you on that with their own positive experiences. So shame yes, you may have felt hard done by, but Momsen's record speaks for itself. No supplier/manufacturer has had a 100% satisfaction record. Looks blerry naice! To the OP, maybe also look at the Whyte range for something different http://www.whytebikes.com/2012/international.php#url available from http://www.intltrade.co.za/ Morewood Kwela is one sweet ride, can be a beaut custom build on that.
  18. Allowable, but frowned upon generally
  19. Also used this a while ago, must stock up again ... One of my other all time faves, especially for wet conditions http://www.agrinet.co.za/pics/picl/VP_F_0003.jpg
  20. That last bit "This week the team was evidently reselected, and remains unchanged" If true, how does the logic, if any, apply? The point of following a process of re-selection, in any code. Is that there's a clear admission that the original criteria had not been adhered to. So now we follow the same circle, seems more like playing for time.
  21. Yeah I've read that, alongside other brands that have also had issues. Comparing one brand to another though is meaningless as the chance of contamination is there for all of them regardless. It's a very young industry still, clearly as it's growing there a lot of factors that need to be challenged and sorted. Having said that, we also can't have a situation that a supplement in way shape of form becomes a scapegoat. If there's one universal truth here, it's that people need to question what goes into the products we ingest, generally. Agree completely, pretty much what Prof Kayser states in the article.
  22. Specifics or this perception? ... I use USN and a couple of other products now and then if I run out.
  23. Reality is that a lot of foodstuffs including supplements cannot always be guaranteed, especially with centralized manufacturing and packaging. If a pro or semi/pro athlete is competing, then they should keep record of everything in the training period.| Found this a good read, don't agree 100% with everything, but it raises some important issues. http://www.sportsscientists.com/2010/12/drug-of-year-methylhexanamine-and.html "When we interviewed Prof Bengt Kayser, who was of the opinion that doping control would be more effective if the number of banned substances was cut right down, leaving only those that have a profound effect on performance and are unsafe." "Where do we draw the line with regards to how we define doping? Andreea Raducan has only one gold medal, not two, thanks to a drug that likely did nothing for her performance, and is not even banned anymore."
  24. Read that a while back, wrote it during the FED's investigation. Stoic piece for sure and succinctly sums up the scenario, well worth reading.
  25. Back row section near the trees is your best bet
