  1. Very cool, sent this to student who did some work with us. He's super keen and relatively new in the job market, this would be perfect for him to apply for
  2. Seriously? Maybe it was a bad day. Met him at the 98 World Cup in Stellenbosch, was super cool, had a Windhoek together. Missy Giove was hardcore, we got bounced by her from the team area, next day we saw her and she was super chill ... Rob Warner signed my Union Jack flag and I gave him some mampoer, fark his face was classic! Wont mention the story with the one Trek mechie and the disc brakes
  3. Incredible cinematography, although I feel it could have had a bit more if a story to it. More about the venues and people there would make it a lot more interesting, especially the trailbuilders. Nepal could be a movie on it's own altogether, fascinating!

  5. Bridgestone, MB6 then and MB5. Eventually Kona AA then an Explosiv. The GT Zaskars, Diamond Backs etc were coveted Thing is, the riding back then for XC(O) was a lot more technical than most of the marathon events these days. Essentially the birth of MTB in SA is with pure XC. Most people would *** off to do a proper XC circuit, in fact guys have very much a skewed perception of XC. Dangle pretty much summed it up.
  6. Each to their own, there are benefits and drawbacks. Just wish people would stop referring to buying a 29r as an "upgrade" ... at least in the verbatim sense!
  7. As long as the frame has no cracks and the components aren't too worn you can get some good deals. But there are some good options for new bikes too, the Axis site has some really well priced and specced road bike, or you could check Sports Basement for clearance stock of a couple of brands at reduced prices.
  8. What brainwashing? It's long been the predominant market style of riding here, blame the long multi/all day rides on the exploratory nature of Saffas. Yet the options for AM/freeride/DH are there and always have been, so start. Buy an AM bike and build trails, nothing stopping anyone, already a few guys doing so. Sigh ... bring back the 90s, DH and XC (now XCO) ... Same weekend, same bike. ....
  9. Going on what you say about foods, I personally believe that's especially true with the food we buy these days. A lot of stuff is produced from GM crops, growth hormone etc etc ... so whose to say we actually get out of (for example) a banana what we would before? Even stuff like fruit juice, try and find 100% pure fruit juice on a shelf, they're all 'blends' now. Supplements play an important role, even with a "balanced diet" more so for active lifestyles. This is my personal take on it anyway.
  10. I dunno, rather do specific rides to replicate a couple stages in distance/time, think those would help more with the mental aspect. events that don't give you any pre-conceived ideas. Because once you start, it can be a shock to the system. Could well be wrong in that approach, just going on what worked for me, although we all have different approaches. Are you going for a result?
  11. Doh T'was not me ...
  12. I speak under correction, but I think it is. Either way, it does present a brilliant opportunity for an "added value" for the area!
  13. Has anyone actually checked the definition of 'supplements' ?
  14. Maybe not for all styles of MTB, but A.M. was pretty much correct. Besides, with the growth in one area of mountain biking it lays the groundwork for other areas. We already see a more people getting into the trail/all mountain side of things. Pure XCO is starting to take off again as well. Trails are developing more and more, the potential is there for all riding, the sport is in a healthier state than it has been in a long time. Pedals, knobbly tyres, two wheels, dirt, outdoors, fun ? ... It's mountain biking who gives a toss what the jocks want to say what 'real' mountain biking is.
  15. Thaba Trails in Alberton or Central Park in the AECI grounds at Modderfontein.
  16. No. Raleigh SA was locally designed, specced and branded by Probike, it went through a change as 'Nomad' on the MTB range with the Raleigh logo being less prominent. Probike now no longer have the Raleigh brand as Raleigh themselves have now appointed an agency/distributor to import the overseas specced range. Probike have brought out their own brand of value for money and entry level bikes, Axis. Design, spec and build are still done locally by Probike themselves. It could be viewed that these are done as a supplementary range to the Scott bikes for whom Probike are the local agents. With Scott themselves buying into Probike, it's possible that Raleigh saw this as a conflict to building their brand and presence on the growing local market with the full range, including the upper end of models.
  17. Was about to say, normally a group meeting at Mugg & Bean Paulshof. Think there's also a group that meets at Chilli Lane in Sunninghill.
  18. Or like cars, a demo is there for test drives, but basics. Don't really get dealers allowing people to use their cars for a trip to CT and back. There are a couple of shops/brands with demo bikes to take around the block or on a basic rout nearby, Cycle Lab does so as well. Momsen and Specialized also have demo bikes as far I know. The concern for a bike to go missing is fully understandable, they're basic machines compared to cars/motorbikes and a lot easier to steal and move or disassemble for spares. Your proposal seems sound though, given your fiance's prominence in the sport. What about her sponsor, surely they have some connections?

  20. For some maybe, a lot is also on perception. Essentially calling the guy stupid for doing something most if us would do in that situation, yes the bikes got stolen. But out of the thousands of riders that pass through, an exception. No need to insinuate the oke was stupid, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Glad some of the bikes have been recovered pedal menace, seems the cops and co were on the ball....
  21. Not everywhere is Joburg.
  22. Am in ....
  23. Bloody nice! Good to see a well put together title ... Added to favorites!
  24. No, it crosses through private land. Ride Breedts both sides and it'll be plenty training.
  25. Effin line is so slow today, the live stream is incredibly frustrating!
