  1. Read this thread from the start to the end last night, there was some great advice (and as is custom on the hub, some unhelpful advice). I have just completed my first commute into work this morning and it was great, felt so amazing to not be sitting in my car while my mood slowly deteriorates due to traffic. I have a fairly short and flat commute with the option to ride on the pavements/"cycle paths" most of the way. The trip is from Wynberg to Observatory which is about 11km. After only 1 commute under the belt I can say to everyone if you are thinking about it, DO IT!
  2. Hi I bought the Giant TCR 2 a few years ago, was about R8000 new, 9 speed Tiagra. I absolutely love the bike, I was at the time swayed to the Giant because its colors were better than the other bikes in that price range, but boy am I glad I got the Giant.
  3. Hi Tienie Congrats yours was the lucky reply. Will post some wallets for you to choose from shortly!
  4. Hi All Thanks for the response, Will post the winner tonight
  5. There is obviously a cost that has to be paid by someone. At this stage it is meant more as an option for the sponsors to get their brands out on social media etc. But I fully understand your concern and as a rider I also do not want "extras" like this pushing up the entry price
  6. Hi Stretch The backhaul would be different for every situation depending on what was available, what it is going to be used for and how many people will be using it. So yes often the only option is something like satellite if it's out in the sticks. 3G is great if it is available and if it works. But we find normally as soon as there are a large amount of people connected it all goes downhill pretty quickly and there is nothing that can be done to get it going again or to be able to control it.
  7. Hey Hubbers Will keep this going until tomorrow evening (9pm) and will then announce the winner.
  8. Hi VicanZA That is certainly the aim, it all depends on the event organizers and sponsors etc,
  9. We are able to provide Wi-Fi at any location even out in the sticks so mention the races you want it at!
  10. Hey Hubbers We are looking to approach cycling events to partner with them to provide Wi-Fi for the riders/fans etc I'm hoping to get some great first hand knowledge here by tapping into the experience of my fellow hubbers. For those who would like to help, please mention an event that either had no Wi-Fi that you think should, an event that did but it wasn't great or even events that did and it was awesome. Just to try motivate people to get involved, for everyone who posts a relevant (helpful in some way ) reply I will enter them into a draw to win an Awesome TVK Wallet, as seen below. I will provide the winner with a couple of wallet options to choose from.
  11. Hey guys, thanks for all the input and advice. Was hoping nothing else had to be changed so will pass on the offer.
  12. Hey all. I have the chance to get some new 5700 105 shifters for a good price. I’m currently riding a Giant TCR 2 (2011 & tiagra 9 speed group set). I would like to slowly upgrade to full 105. So my questions are: a) If I install the new 105 shifters will I have any compatibility issues with my current setup? B) What would be a realistic price to sell the second hand pair of tiagra shifters (in great condition) for? Cheers
  13. Thanks for the kind offer but I might abandon the wheel upgrade.
  14. Thats how I feel. I really liked the look of the wheels I linked and I thought there might be a semi significant weight difference compared to my stock ones. I am not nearly good enough for the weight savings that I would gain from pedals and stems when you factor in the high cost.
  15. Thanks for the input guys, its a present so not flexible on the budget but its pretty clear that its not worth it (although they would like siiiick!).
  16. Hi All I have my birthday coming up soon and was thinking of getting some new wheels as an upgrade. I have a 2010/11 Giant TCR-2 that came with Giant S-R2 wheels. I have a budget of about R2000 and I weigh 76 kg. I have been unable to find the stock weight of these wheels so if you know, please let me know. My reasons for upgrading are three fold. One I would like to get a slightly lighter wheel-set and secondly if possible a pair that match my bike/good looking and lastly will be very durable. Some info about my cycling ability would help. I do it for fun and cycle for about 5-6 months of the year, it is social activity that I enjoy and do not take it to seriously. Weight (of the bike) is not the limiting factor in my performance but rather fitness. I do the argus in about 3h30-45 and the burger in about 3h15-30. I would like to buy in CT or online locally if possible. I have been looking at these: http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-rs-30-wheelset
  17. What amazes me in cases like this, is the refusal of the people who were in charge to step down (looking at you Pat). They were either partly responsible or knew that something fishy was going on and if they didn't, they are just incompetent. But they don't and now want to be a part of the solution. Makes me sick, like so many industries that go through this, LACK OF LEADERSHIP!
  18. I saw a terrible accident this year, some idiot came screaming past on the right at the final turn, he pulled in late to avoid the wall and took out the guy next to him, they fell at 55kmh. was awful, i was rattled for the next 10km. i personally enjoy boyes drive even if it dominates me very year. but crashes like that make me happy for the route to go back to main road.
  19. The nesspresso machines are great if you are looking for a quick and convenient way to enjoy good coffee. For me personally though i hate the idea of being tied into them with the pods. If I had some cash to burn I would go with one of the sprada machines that do it all (+- R5000). But at the moment this is how i do it and i love it. This my pre-gym coffee in the evening, In the morning there is an equal esspresso to milk ratio.
  20. awesome man, 300 bucks is a steal when compared to the 560 at other shops!
  21. thanks for the offer, really kind, but i am not keen to try something new during the race
  22. hey guys, thats good advice. i have been using the product though, used it last year and loved it! have not being doing as much riding this year which i why im hoping to go halvies on a tub.
  23. hey Hubbers Im wanting to get some EPIC PRO ALL-IN-ONE for the argus, but wont be needing a whole tub as i wont finish it before it expires. So i was wondering if there is someone in a similar position, or who wants to try it out without spending R500 bucks. I stay in wynberg, looking to have it sorted by sat afternoon. drop me a mail if your interested. adamyeld@yahoo.com
  24. thanks, me to, fav part on it though is the blue second hand
