  1. Pieter, I reckon the problem is that you "learnt" those skills in cleats which are now actually just bad habits. Suggestion: don't go for a long ride but just play around practising the tech stuff with the flats. I will join you if you'd like
  2. He has been there since I started riding the Spruit about 9 years ago - didn't think he would last this long as he got pretty sick through a couple of cold winters. I hear that certain residents always assist him with food, clothes etc. Those days you could ride up to Emmerentia on a weekend morning and not see another person: rider or walker. But that area (Linden?) dosn't have the same problems with squatters as Parkmore does.
  3. Sorry, we did it long ago with JMBC when gps was quite rare. And since then they have had to make lots of changes to get around fences, new developments etc. the good news is that JMBC still do this every December on Boxing Day AFAIK. So get onto their mailing list and check it out.
  4. Hmmmmm... well, sadly that counts out all the good hubs I know. But if you change your mind - contact Jason at International Trade who are the agents for Hope. Also agents for Spank and WTB which will be your best bet for rims. He will source spokes etc and build the wheels for you - excellent wheel builder and cheaper than most.
  5. Hi. My name is SLiick and I used to race... ... road. Yeah, when I was young it used to be weekend after weekend up at 3 or 4am to be at the venue by 5am to be warmed up and racing by 6am. My last two "races" were Mankele Avalanche and SSWC 2012. I will probably do a handful of Enduros and possibly some social DH and throw in a SS and 24 hr event every year. So generally just ride for fun as much as possible.
  6. Farmasutra. Be there!!!
  7. Believe me. It wasn't a close thing...
  8. Trying to follow him down the enduro trails in Karkloof, I ate so much dust - in more ways than one.
  9. Just mention the special aerodynamic lightweight paintjob
  10. Next week it will go up to R60k...
  11. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/61749-2006-yeti-575-26er/ Comment: "Is this not the same bike that was listed earlier as a 2006 model?" Obviously edited...
  12. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/61737-yeti-asr-carbon-107kgs/ "...it really feels like you are cheating, that how fast this bike is!"
  13. The awesome year end mtb party.
  14. Yeah. It seems he strikes very early on a weekend morning. Avoid riding alone wherever possible. We going to try and catch him over the next couple of weeks.

    The Big 30

Bunnyhopping with flats there! Awesome Happy birthday dude!
  16. SeaBea, sounds like they needed a bleed.
  17. Hope breaks? One of the things I like about Hope is that you can buy just about all of the bits seperately. Not that you will ever need them of course. Hope Tech/Race X2 + braided hoses + Hope floating rotors = WINNAAR!!!
  18. Road = F1 MTB = WRC Fast, steep, twisty descents are awesome on the road. There was one in particular on the Jock coming down from the Boulders at Kaapmuiden. All you could smell was burning brake pads...
  19. Add in a few corners like down a mountain pass at 70 to 100km/h and it can be as exhilarating as single track.
  20. Stephanie, you might want to correct the typo in your email addy.
  21. Yeah, an accurate gauge solves the problem.
  22. The Lev is the only KS which has the actuation in the collar. In other words it doesn't move at all. On some of their cheaper posts the cable actuation is right up at the seat clamp. On the cheapest one, the Dropzone and the old i900 I think, the cable is on the front of the post which for me is more annoying as the cable is more likely to flare out and touch your leg. The other KS models all attach at the rear which works and looks better.
  23. I've got so used to using a dropper that since getting a Lev, my i950R is going onto my new AM hardtail build - which will mostly be run as a single speed.
  24. SDG no more... The best thing about KS models is that you can get an entry level model for well under R2k which works just as well as the top end ones. Also a few models just over R2k. They obviously do have the annoying cable routing though.
  25. Knowing what the correct tyre pressures are is all good and well BUT not all pump gauges are created equally. There are 5 floor pumps in my bike room and each one has a different reading for the same pressure. If I recall correctly when the Birzman reads 1.8bar, the Parktool is the highest at 2.7bar... So unless you know you have an accurately callibrated gauge it really is a bit of trial and error. To find what works for you establish what is much too hard and much too soft and try and find the ideal somewhere in the middle. Front is usually around 10% less than rear. Another way to get a good starting point is to begin with a rear pressure which flexes the tyre slightly on a square edge (pointy rock, step etc) when you sit on the bike. This is also usually the pressure where your thumb will be able to flex the top tread a bit. It's good to know how hard your ideal pressure is by feel.
