  1. Dash, you need to get there and be ready to ride by 17h30, I try and get there at 17h00 to register and warm up properly. markStockton2008-10-10 00:35:59
  2. Great thanks Daisy, Craig really did an amazing job. Looks like I will be on the bike tomorrow already. I just wish he didn't show me what the innards of my knee look like, some thing's (like Holy's butt and the innards of my knee) are better unseen.
  3. I measured the track at about 900 to 1000m. You need to be there between 17h00 and 17h30 so you can get registered and get the feel of the track.
  4. I've got a small group coming from 4ways / Douglasdale, hence the meeting place. However we could also hookup at the low level ridge down at the bottom of Grosvenor Road at about 08h30 if that works better for you?
  5. A hack saw with a fine blade should work. Then clean up the cut with some sandpaper, eventually using fine paper to finish off the job. Not to sure how you make sure the cut is straight.
  6. Hi All I'm planning a group ride for Sunday the 12th of October. The plan is to leave the Douglasdale Total garage at the corner of Leslie and Douglas Drive at 8am, Woolworth's side of Leslie. Anyone keen on joining let me know. Pace will be relaxed and hopefully we can find a spot to get a cup of coffee on the way back. Regards Mark
  7. I generally don't go around asking for discounts, (unless I'm in Cajees). So I compare the labeled price and would rather go to Cycle Lab Fourways than Cajees up the road.
  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benoni,_Gauteng Well worth the read.
  9. Have you actually spent much time on an MTB on a technical course with a fair amount of climbing? I can definitely spin the back, and I probably have 1/3 of the power of Andrew Mc and weigh 20kg's more!!! I also noticed LBB loosing traction with every pedal stroke up a climb at Rietvlei last time I saw him.
  10. I doubt any study will come to that conclusion. As air pressure increases, rolling resistance decreases. Perhaps the escape valve on your sentence is the use of "significantly". I think the difference is significant. That's just the nature of the beast. I agree that traction on irregular surfaces improves with a decrease in air pressure and here the cause is obvious - the tyre moulds itself over something irregular and making that lot slip will require lots more force. I had a look at the Schwalbe study at the time and I don't like their testing method. It is virtually impossible to measure something like rolling resistance by repeatedly riding the same irregular path. You just cannot do that accurately enough. The only accurate way to measure rolling resistance is on a smooth surface such as a steel drum. That'll give you a base to work from and any irregularities you throw at the tyre will just add on top of the base. But at least the base measurements for various pressures are accurate. I'm not taking the bait. Lower tire pressure works for me, you do what ever works for you. Kona Fan, I agree with you on needing more grip at the front. As you get more and more confident you do more and more braking with the front. Grip at the front is vital, for the back it should follow the front with as little resistance as possible.
  11. Hello, my name is Mark .... ... roll-in's, drop-off's, fast flowing single track. Darn right I'm an addict.
  12. Feel the love, Dude.
  13. BrokeSpoke, have you watched Alex go through that bottom corner. For me it was easy as he laps me about 20 times. But what he does is turn in at full tilt, straighten up over the grate, shoot in to the next lane between the curb and the tree, and finish the turn there. I'm still chicken and dab the brakes before turning in, but I am going through there just shy of 50km/h using Alex's line. This really helps carry momentum into the first section of the climb.
  14. You fit Schwalbe Racing Ralphs exactly as described, and I must add I think they are amazing.
