  1. Thank you patches! exactly the info I was looking for
  2. mini hijack perhaps, but how grippy are these pinned pedals and the fivetens really? if I really push down on my heel on descents, will my foot stay on the pedal? what about bunny hopping or other 'aerial manoeuvres' which require pulling up on the pedals? how does this influence things? I'm considering flats too. being cleated and not able to put down a foot quick enough over technical terrain scares the cr*p out of me
  3. www.fittrack.co.za there's a training program for the argus. very handy. I'm currently following the 94.7 one
  4. also try www.fittrack.co.za they have very helpful training plans. plots your workouts on a graph to tell you if you're on track or not

  6. As I said, I am not debating any cyclist's right to ride on the roads. I enjoy road cycling myself and have been the victim of aggression towards road cyclists myself, so please dont preach to the choir. My point is that you need to be realistic and pro-active to stay safe. yes, you have the right to the road, but if you're going to be an ass about it, ride two (or three or four, yes this is what happens on Lynnwood road) abreast, do 30km/h in a 100km/h zone with no shoulder and then have the audacity to curse at, flip the bird at, or otherwise engage in rude behaviour towards other road users, then YOU are the one causing the problem, regardless of any kind of legal right you have.

  8. probably not. but he voices the frustration of many users on that particular stretch of road. I'm very aware of my own safety when cycling on the roads, I too have had many close calls on that stretch and it's arrogant cyclists who frustrate drivers that makes it dangerous for the rest of us
  9. no doubt after receiving many complaints from long suffering fellow road users. that road is not cycling friendly, there is zero shoulder and the speed limit in most places is 100km/h with many blind rises. going down there, two a abreast with your van behind you,is just asking for trouble. BIG Kudos to the large club group whom I see frequenting that road on a regular basis. the club vehicle pulls onto the gravel and the cyclists move into single file when another vehicle approaches from behind. This is not a debate about who is right and who is wrong in terms of the road usage. This is the reality when trying to keep yourself safe on the road.
  10. another +- from me. their service is unparalleled
  11. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/sigma-pc-1511 does anybody have one? Opinions?
  12. Hi all Can anybody recommend a good, reliable mechanic in pretoria or midrand? Played in the mud on sunday morning and managed to bend my rear derailleur. I dont feel confident fiddling with it myself thanx
  13. brilliant! Wet, slippy and muddy. and a lovely breakfast afterwards. will let you know when we go again
  14. I did a road race last weekend with a friend. I'm on my 26" HT with the shock locked and 1.25 slicks. He's on a Giant OCR road bike. riding abreast on the same gradient, he was coasting and I had to pedal to stay at the same speed. He was quite a bit faster downhill too since I ran out of gears at about 50km/h. It was an interesting experiment and if he wasnt staying with me he would've finished a good 30 minutes ahead of me I reckon
  15. alright ladies and gents, we're doing a "Slow, Lazy, unfit, social and beginner" ride from Rosemary Hill this sunday morning at 8. Come join us!
  16. yup! I'm keeping an eye on the classifieds for exactly this
  17. thanx!
  18. does the derdepoort trail have some easier, less technical riding too? cause it sounded to me like it was an xco type route?
  19. Just how bad are indoor trainers for your tyres and/or bike? I own a HT MTB with either maxxis monorails or specialized fatboy slicks. both tubed. the trainer is a standard entry level magnetic trainer, nothing fancy
  20. The only section I really felt unsafe at was just before the fountains circle. We suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a 4 lane stretch of road with cars on either side and not knowing which side of the road to be on, no markers and no marshals. That stretch of road could definitely have done with cones and clear marking.
