  1. if you can do 30-40km offroad then 55km on the road will be a breeze
  2. mtb tyre? I had real skinny conti slicks years ago that would NOT seat correctly without sunlight liquid and rapid over-inflation at the petrol station. the bang gave the petrol jockeys a kick
  3. NICE! can you adjust the tension on these? report back needed after your first ride!
  4. yebo yes. die-hard time fan here too
  5. +1. My TIME pedals are 12+ years old and I would never ride with anything else. have never had any issues with mud and the surface area is large enough that I can fairly comfortably pedal even when clipped out
  6. I also find white lightning doesnt last in the dry, dusty highveld winters. currently trying purple extreme
  7. village shopping center in moreletapark. inbox me and I'll send you his details
  8. I used David Nel who does the Specialized body bike fit. I paid R550 about 6 months ago
  9. when clipping in or out do it with your pedal in the 6 o'clock position. aka pointing towards the ground. This way you can put a bit of weight on it to stabilise things. clipping in is a straight forward motion, feel for the pedal and push down and forward until you hear the click. when unclipping, again rotate the pedal towards the ground, add a bit of weight to keep it in place and then and twist your heel sideways (not up or down, just towards the side) until the pedal disengages. if you feel you have to twist too much then adjust the tensioner to loosen the pedal. It helps a lot if your shoes and pedals allow you to still pedal fairly easily while clipped out. That way you can unclip and continue pedalling if you feel unsafe or nervous. Like other have said, unclip both feet BEFORE you stop moving. then you want have any embarrassing slow motion falls Where in gauteng are you?
  10. TIME, I will never use anything else. I've had my ATACs for 12+ years and they work in any condition with zero maintenance. cleats are now starting to look at bit worn
  11. I bought a first ascent bamboo thermal shirt this week. the material is quite thin and highly wicking. the box makes all kinds of grand promises of thermal regulation and comfort. we shall see A friend has a first ascent 'apple' jacket. she says its very windproof. it folds up in a tiny ball which can easily be stowed in a back pocket. and then ofcourse fleece arm warmers and long fingered winter gloves. eventually I plan on completing the 'ensemble' with long socks and a buff or two. extra points for wacky colour.
  12. am I the only one that thinks futurelife tastes like gritty tile grout? sticking with slices of low gi bread and peanutbutter on race days, oats or a meal replacer shake during the week
  13. eeeeee-yoh-yoh-yoh eish. hilly indeed
  14. haha sadly no! I experienced a sudden sharp pain upon my person. figured it must've been my financial manager sticking pins in my voodoo doll
  15. +1, let me know how it goes? very interested in price and how easy it was to retrofit
  16. if you run endomondo then it will sync with your bluetooth enabled sports accesories, including HRMs. the finger on the camera thing is definitely not even remotely accurate
  17. Also did an abrupt u-turn to go look after a training ride last weekend (while still wearing my filthy mtb kit nogal). To their credit, nobody even raised an eyebrow when one dusty mtb chick squealed out loud at the pink bianchi road bike. LOL
  18. I'm no expert but from what I've read the import duties are much higher if you import a complete bike vs components. I seem to recall several pinned posts on the forum about import duties, maybe do a search?
  19. did you see this add? looks very small https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/30658-scott-gambler-dh20/
  20. I'm a short rider. I'll look really silly on a 29er and I'll probably struggle with the frame's geometry. BUT, I have a 26er bike that fits me really well and I can appreciate the advantages of a bigger wheel. why wouldn't I get excited if I could fit 650B wheels on my current bike? To my situation it seems ideal.
  21. well, you can always discuss with your LBS about helping you build up your imported frame?
  22. yeah, I think the X2 and X4 comes in XS?
  23. the woman's specific bikes tend to run smaller, so maybe she would be able to get away with a small frame. I'm 1.65 and ride a small 'unisex' HT which is just right for me. why not import a frame from CRC?
  24. +1, our spinning instructor makes us do standing climbs without touching the handle bars and with your weight further back. your nose shouldnt be past the handlebar. remember when you climb the bike angles upward along the gradient, the spinning bike stays level, so you have to adjust your position accordingly to engage the correct muscle groups.
  25. anybody know what the 40km route is like? how hilly and technical?
