  1. No worries! I took a chance and visited the registration guys and gals on sunday morning and they very kindly issued me a goody bag after I explained about friday. big thumbs up to them and big thumbs up to you for your offer
  2. found the race quite enjoyable and mostly well organised, water points very well stocked and strategically placed. But yes, a couple of the roads could have done with better marking and more marshals, motorists were getting irate and abusive, which I think would have been alleviated with some advanced warning of the upcoming road closures. One chop provided us with some much needed comic relief halfway up hans strijdom. he flew out of his car, dressed in his sunday best but looking like he was about to expire from a coronary event. he shrieked at the bemused metro cop manning the intersection 'I'm GOING to be LATE for CHURCH!!! CANT YOU SEE I'm going to be LATE!!! FOR CHHUURRCCHHHH!!!' beet red in his face, while flapping his hands and jumping up and down. it was funny as all hell. for the rest of the crawl up hans strijdom you'd hear people going 'peddle you sods! move! I'm going to be late for church!!!'
  3. awwww man! there werent any on friday @SantaReynolds?
  4. next time! I currently have (coughcough) skinny tyres on my bike for sunday's (coughcough) road race. the things were a b*tch to get seated, they're staying on until after sunday
  5. so you can leave us in the dust again??
  6. dont be silly! we go as fast as everybody is comfortable with. maybe we can show you rosemary hill one weekend? can you do a slow +- 18km? we can do the loop and then have coffee and a toasty afterwards
  7. the singletrack rides are quite fast. I stopped going
  8. i'm in pretoria. gimme shout if you want to hook up with us. we do anything from 20-40km per ride and we average about 15/16ish km/h. nothing technical, I dont do technical

why then the enforced csa membership (or day license fee) and timing chip if this isnt a seeded event? also how will you determine the open starting batches in the 50 if you're not taking seeding into consideration?
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass I thought it was well organised and never felt in danger. its best to go slow so that all the riders (some who were very beginner or casual) could keep up. remember, it is not a formal organized event, so every rider is responsible for their own safety.
  11. having wrestled continental 26x1.1 slicks onto fulcrum mtb rims I can relate! warm soapy water and a visit to the garage (presta to schraeder converter is R20). over inflate and it usually seats after a couple of tries and some cussing. the loud bang and the ducking petrol jockeys is worth it

will you have sweep vehicles? saint bernards with rum round their necks? spiked energy drinks at the water points? cause I might just die before reaching the top of hans strijdom
  13. looking forward to this one!
  14. because its FUN?? I have a decent specced mtb but dont have a road bike, nor do I know anybody that has one I can borrow. I LIKE doing the occasional road race. 94.7, argus etc and for me its more about the vibe and the social outing than the time. I cant justify the expense of buying a road bike that sits and gathers dust just for the odd race or three a year. Yeah, it's not ideal. but we cant all have 'ideal', so we make do with what we have

do you have a route profile for the 50km track please?
  18. sorry for the slight hijack, but do the crossmarks have a lower rolling resistance than the monorails?
  19. My car has a matrix unit installed on a rental contract and the same thing happened to me. not only did matrix say it's my own responsibility to ensure the device is working by performing regular self-checks, but then told me it's an old model of which they cant replace the battery and I had to have a new unit installed at my own (exorbitant) cost. I told them to get bent
  20. hot stuff!!! not a bad rider either
  21. I'd go for photochromic dark to clear, or dark to very slight yellowish tint. both good options for night riding
  22. Perfect, Thanx Dale!
