The reverse of this is that feeling having half the field pass you on the bike ....
  3. a friend of mine had 14 gels (GU) on the IM bike last year. One every 30 mins for 7 hours.
  4. Clifton is about 2 kms long .. a better run would be to follow the bay to bay route. Clifton to Hout Bay harbor and back - exactly 30kms or skip the Argus and come race GWWW - 3km Swim, 70 Bike and 30 Run - R495. Small field with some strong pros like Hugo, Caveman, Tissink et al.

I know the Century City one in Cape Town does as ive experience it first hand. Unfortunately my usual training spot (wembley/point/cbd) doesn't. I would assume most flagship clubs would have and probably the ones that have been built recently.

Perhaps being dictated to regarding selection wasn't his cup of tea ... it would be ironic for a non white Captain to resign over quotas (if indeed that was the case)

    Cricket......

One also needs to take into account the have been some real main stays in the cricket side which have not paved the way for some of the names in the list (of any ethnicity) Many of which we could agree would get into lesser teams. It is the same way in countries like India and Aus. We are number one in the world which means some of the best players for the rest of thr world might not get into that/this specific. There were some guys who got a look in those careers were tailended thought injury. Ngam, Zonde come to mind. But that is also the case for guys like Brett Schultz and many other sports people. With Cricket, unlike many other sports, the stats back many of the decision for the inclusion or exclusion of players. Gibbs was also non white ...

Im confused I thought your point was the team should represent the demographic? But failed to respond to he question posed to you regarding lets say Bafana Bafana or does it only work the one way? or it transformation selective?

If it is 80% but only 10% even care about cricket the don't outnumber the fans of another demographic do they? The only pressure CSA should be under is how to keep us number 1!

Such as? You say the team should be representative of SA by demographic? Do you disagree Football is more popular than cricket with African people?

    Cricket......

How can you field a team that reflects the demographic of a country if half do not want to participate? The team represents the demographic of interested/talented people (of any colour) Would the same not apply for Bafana Bafana . 6 Black, 2 Whites, 2 Coloured and an Indian? If you had to ask an African person who they would rather represent - Bafana or the Proteas their answer 95% of the time would be Bafana. Hence the reasons for so few white footballers and so few African cricketers. Even minority groups get more players in the team because they place more importance in this sport than others.

AB made the team as a bat (his talent) and his keeping was a bonus where as Thami has not excelled with the bat at domestic level to justify a spot. Avg of 30 in FC isn't lighting up fires and I think he/CSA need to accept he is a good provincial player. There have been far more talented players than him who wont play international cricket for RSA. Like many who would probably played a 100 ODI's for NZ or similar

Thami had a chance and tbh if he had the talent to make it he would have stayed in the setup after getting a glipse in the 2004. I don't see the logic in bringing in a 33 year old at this stage. By the time he adjusts to international cricket (if ever) his career will be all but over He couldn't cut the mustard here in the Cape lest in the national team

Yeah the difference is that KP has gone on to be a fine test cricket (not a fine person albeit) the other guy isn't even getting into 1st teams in the 2nd division of England. Perhaps he just wasn't good enough. My issue with this type of quota approach is the effect it has no non white players who make it on merit. It would also leave question marks under any future selection which could effect players confidence

The short answer is he plays as a specialist bat - I don't think AB keep for his franchise either if im not mistaken. The Lions already field black players so not sure what it has to do with transformation. Are you saying it is wrong to force this or wrong to not have a token player in the team without merit?
  22. Littering at a race is not a petty thing and perhaps going to speak to people who had that opinion would not have helped. Should he have ruined his race and spent his time policing other adults? Having been on the receiving end of "f#ck you ect ect" when asking people not to litter it clearly doesn't work like that. Rant and rave is exactly that isnt it? If you dont want to read it then dont. I find it hard to believe you would come onto this 'popular' forum and try and defend those type of actions. Why not use it as an opportunity to show others you are serious about the behavour of the riders in your club? Instead you try and deflect onto OP. If this is the attitude shown after a race, where the adrenalin has dropped imagine the response during?
  23. If it were the 19th I ride that way but will be at work those dates - try and contact ATC (atlantic triathlon club) - they are based out of that area and ride on Tuesday mornings at 5h30
