  1. You are quite cocky for someone who is completely wrong. Have a look at some actual data from cyclists who shared their data on Strava from the recent Liege Bastogne Liege. One of toughest classics around and it looks like maybe 2 out of 14 with HR data would have gotten any extra points... The only time these guys go above 80% is when doing interval training or a really hard effort for a very small % of a race... All that said, I do agree the hysteria against vitality is getting a bit out of hand - but that doesn't change the fact that their HR requirements are unrealistic to achieve other than on the hardest day for someone really fit. As many have said, there should be a tiered system, and I would guess that Discovery will eventually see the light.
  2. Same boat - I am keeping national membership for now. But it is annoying really - what is the logic for having no booster for national membership? Don't want it for free but why no discount if I met my targets?
  3. Looks like the "next year" club is growing... My entry is available for substitution - anyone interested, pls DM me.
  4. Had the same issue - my physio advised compress sports sleeves so I ended up coughing up for these at the 2oceans expo (seem to recall they were as much as about 800 mulas?). Must say they seem to give a lot of support, although I still wonder how much of it is physiological and how much is psychological...
  5. "Adding GPS would be a logical addition," said George Jijiashvili, an analyst for CCS Insight, who specialises in wearable technology. "Being able to track your runs and listen to music via Bluetooth headphones without the need to carry your iPhone would certainly appeal to an 'active' segment of consumers and raise the Watch's overall utility." However, Jijiashvili might be disappointed. The latest reports are saying that the Apple Watch 2 will not feature GPS, but instead will include a new Wi-Fi chip that can be used to track Apple Watch devices using Wi-Fi router triangulation tech. Wifi triangulation may be useful in London or NYC, but doubt it will be of much use in our part of the world...
  6. Any news/rumours on new apple watch? I seem to recall this was expected to launch in April? My OH is running out of patience but I still reckon its worth waiting for the new one which will HOPEFULLY have GPS...

That is an amazing photograph - captures the violence of what Alonso walked away from. As others have said, this must surely make him ask some questions about what he is doing in plodding around in the second half of the pack.
  8. So how did everyone go at OMTOM? I bled through my eyeballs but happy to say I managed to push on with constant time pressure and squeaked in on a 6.58.58. That would be a disaster for most of you snakes, but for me given my lack of preparation and injuries the last couple of months it was a success. I found it harder and way more emotional than anything else I've done (including IMSA) - was really proud to have pushed through and to have my kids there to see it. Seeing my 10 year old daughter jumping up and down and the feeling I had as I entered UCT with less than 2 minutes to go is something that will stay with me forever. What did I learn? I already knew it intellectually, but Saturday I proved to myself in practice that the mind rules the body - not the other way around. Other than that, on the day I thought I learned that two oceans was to be my running pinnacle - I could not fathom myself attempting anything further / tougher. 3 Days on - I am still sore, and I still think that is the case, but for some reason I am not ready just yet to offer up my comrades entry - will give myself a few more days to make that decision. Such a great event though - comrades aspirants who have not already done so, add Oceans to your bucket list. Now.

So much optimism at the start of the year!
  11. So having established earlier that Comrades can be done on 600k's training, can someone help me with a more immediate problem: Can 2Oceans be done on a wing and a prayer? I am nursing a calf strain and on physio instruction I haven't run in a week and a half now... hope to do an easy trot tomorrow to test it out, but things not exactly going to plan....
  12. But in 10 years time, you might look back and think "Jislaaik, I was still young and stupid enough in 2017, and could have done it...." Jis dooo iiiiiitttttttt.......

My point is, as has always been the case, the teams that want to rules changed are the ones that have not made the best of them. nothing new here - tale as old as F1 itself. I never said it was good that Merc has been so far ahead of everyone else for 2 years and counting, but the current engine / hybrid formula was a demand from the motor manufacturers to keep F1 relevant to the direction their own industry was going. I find it amusing that now suddenly the rules are blamed that's all. What I do wish is that there was more freedom for the other guys to develop their engines to catch up... there I agree F1 is shooting itself in the foot.
  14. So must still be on the bucket list then surely?
  15. Pretty sure strava garmin sync only works Garmin->strava and not strava->garmin...

Fixed your last sentence for you. You're welcome.
  17. Build me up! ..... aaaand knock me back down again...
  18. Why not get her the apple watch via the active reward benefit? The wrist based HRM will give her full benefit in these classes, and if she is doing them regularly she will hit her goal every week and the watch will be "free" aside from the once-off R350 activation fee.
  19. sounds familiar... I am going from one niggle to the next. My expectations for Oceans are now very low - hoping to complete in cut-off that's all. As for Comrades - at this point I think it will be a step too far for me this year, but I will leave a small chance open depending how Oceans goes... My marathon qualifier was a real eye-opener. I am hoping it was just a bad day as I felt crap from the start, but flip the distance got to me. Can't get my head around double that and then some

  21. I got mine from Sportsmans in Dec - R5k on the dot, less Discovery active gear cash back of R1k - so effectively paid R4k. To back up what Sandro said, its a really awesome watch - completely stoked with it.

  23. Bingo. And we knew from last year already that the program would be geared to HR this year.
