  1. For those that have done this before what are the chances my riding partner will be able to change his seeding at registration? He's in DL and I'm in AL. Wouldnt mind dropping to B to join him there but ideally we dont want to start in the last bunch
  2. Lots of potholes?
  3. I'm in AL, but going to drop to DL to ride with a buddy (unless he can get moved up). Come off back of training for 70.3 so hoping I have enough to get through the hills!
  4. Yup, looking forward to this now!
  5. My dads bike on the cover. Well not his, but the same one
  6. as far as I can tell: PROs of tri specific shoes: 1. Shoe opening is designed to allow you to easily slip your foot in on a flying mount 2. Shoes are designed to easily be held in place by an elastic band in preparation for a flying mount Cons: 1. Cycling shoes generally thought to be more comfortable over long distances (think full IM) and possibly have less flex in them (although this is going to be person and shoe specific) So really, I would say dont bother getting a pair of tri shoes specifically. When it comes time to replacement you can consider buying tri shoes, and then using them for your normal road cycling. EDIT: I have one pair of shoes (road) and one set of pedals. Just swop pedals..literally 2 minutes
  7. Or most people could do with some coaching????? I think my point was really that if you have an ok technique you should be swimming 1:40s pretty easily. (1:40s is just the number I picked....I'm sure there are people who will disagree with me) Edited: This is the internet, people will defintitely disagree with me!
  8. PLEASE listen to shaper here. There is no rule to say a XXcm road bike means that you are a XXcm tri bike. The mistake alot of people make is looking at a picture of a tribike, thinking that one looks fast, and then buying it without knowing that it will fit them. The geometry can vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and even between their models. You need to get a fit, an idea of your stack and reach and then go from there. The fastest tri bike is often the one that fits you the best = you are most comfortable in the aero position = you dont consistently sit up to stretch out. Some more good reading: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Bike_Fit/Choosing_a_Tri_Bike_via_Stack_and_Reach/index.html
  9. It depends. Clip ons and correct setup - R3k. New tri bike - alot more than R3k. Do you have spare cash lying around? There is no doubt that a properly fitted tri bike is faster than a properly fitted road bike, but tri bike isnt multi purpose. If you can only have one, I would go with road bike (because I also enjoy doing some road events). If you can have both then problem is easily solved.
  10. Get a coach. Seriously, swimming is so much about technique, and my guess is that if you are swimming slower than 1:40ish then technique is likely the limiting factor. A little better technique can go along way vs just fighting the water with more effort.

  12. What is the best plan for wives/girlfriends coming up for the weekend? We are doing the classique.....should they meet us at stops? Meet us only at finish?

    MotoGP

Just watched Moto3 from Jerez yesterday. What a race and I am so stoked the BBinder finally got that first win under his belt. What a ride! still got Moto2 and Gp to watch this weekend.
  14. I'm in
  15. Just started rewatching from season 2 last night. I swear I laugh harder the 2nd time.
  16. I'd be very nervous to put those on a mountain bike, in fact at more than R20k there is no way I would if I think about the one or two times i've cracked my spds on a rock....doubt P1s could take much of that.
  17. Haha. Didn't you enjoy long tranquil scenery interspersed with over the top violence, rinse repeat?
  18. The Revenant....meh
  19. For me it has to be P1 pedals because I have different bikes with different groupsets and different bottom brackets edited: when I can afford them that is
  20. We'll beat any price unless its lower than ours?
  21. how much were they? I'm using Pearl Izumi Elite at the moment. Guessing they are around R1,600 and 4hour rides easy no problem. Everyone says Assos but I havent come to that price point yet.
  22. If you're interested they also have a podcast in which they deal with tons of general training questions around cycling....what plan should I follow, should I train HR or power, why is power different inside and out, etc. etc. etc. Tons of episodes up already with more than enough information. If you havent done much structured training before, I guarantee you will see great results following their plans. And if you havent done an FTP test before get ready to hurt more than you thought possible on a bike.
  23. Tried to reply last week but couldnt find password....Trainerroad people are incredibly engaging. Unbelievably so. Either on the slowtwitch thread, or on facebook, or via email on their support line they are very quick to come back and trouble shoot, and take user feedback into account with development. Best $10 per month I ever spend. (I dont own a kickr unfortunately, just a normal fluid trainer)
  24. Ok so I've found: http://www.chromesa.co.za/shop/amplify-malto-dextrin-carbo-load-1kg.html or http://www.supplementworld.co.za/supplement-factory-maltodextrin.html Anyone used either of these?
  25. So I couldnt find this at Dischem and now I'm at a loss. Dischem didnt even have the fructose.
