  1. Of course you can - nobody is disputing that but we're talking commuting. Can you? Sure. Should you? Hell no.
  2. To be fair the discussion was centred around commuting. In my 24 months of commuting to my store and back daily I have not seen a single person doing 60kph. Maybe a handful doing ~45kph on their modded ebikes (and that was ridiculously dangerous). Smashing 60kph on a Spesh duallie on an isolated road is a very different story. The only real risk is to the rider. Bottom line is that nobody wants restrictions and theoretically they shouldn't be needed but to save the majority from stupid minority we need rules.
  3. Interesting video! 45kph commuting on an ebike is always going to be dangerous in "half a helmet" in my opinion. Personally I reckon ~27kph is the right top speed for commuters. That way ebikers and normal bikers do about the same speed on the road (or in my case the cycle path) so pedal traffic can flow smoothly. It is also the speed car drivers are used to. 45kph is fine in the right hands with the right brakes but for the most part ecommuters are not experienced riders and the brakes I've seen on most (even R150,000 ebikes) are woefully inadequate of stopping a 80kg person and 30kg bike.
  4. Interesting data - I've always been curious as to how much actual/practical power the motor adds over the total ride distance. Thanks for that!
  5. Fun fact - the right hand turn by the cyclists is illegal here in Denmark. Over here if you want to turn across traffic you need to cross the intersection, hold your hand up to signal that you're stopping then stop on the far side of the intersection, turn your bike 90 degrees and wait for the traffic light to change. You then proceed "straight". It is pretty slow and adds a ton of time to get through the city but it is proper safe and eliminates bicycles and cars crossing paths. Edit: Around 1:55 in shows how to turn across traffic:
  6. Just about everything us wrong with this event. The one sided sob story. Violence to solve issues where there no issue apart from some perceived ego damage. Attacking old people. People who think killing cyclists is a fair reaction to us "owning the road" and/or holding up their lives for a few seconds. The if this was my dad I would moer them stukkend brigade. How stressed are people that this event happened in the first place then mushroomed into violence and social outrage. It's insane.
  7. That is awesome! Nicely done!
  8. Someone who has already anointed them self?
  9. Thank you for your valuable input Karen. A manager will be with you shortly.
  10. Awesome awesome AWESOME!
  11. Agreed. Reluctantly :-) Maybe he is the key to unlocking the Van Resnburg/Nizzolo sprint train. To be honest I would prefer a winning NTT with Cav than a losing NTT without him....
  12. Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav Please not Cav
  13. Hatherly and Andreassen - great day for SA and my adopted country :-) Nino. Holy sheebles. What a machine.
  14. Hatherly you beauty. Goooo booooooiiiii!
  15. Same here. TIZ covers more racing than Eurosport so occasionally I have TIZ on at work. Red Bull TV for the win also!
  16. Quality isn't great and I'm mostly sure it's illegal but it does work in a pinch. I recently started using Eurosport Player.
  17. Weird BinckBank TT and Volta a Portugal today. Still a great day to watch cycling!
  18. Yup. To be fair Shimano's marketing arm in pro racing is strong. There are not many races that Shimano is not involved with. Most of the pro tour teams, all forms of mtb, cyclocross - they do it all.
  19. That is what it said on my feed so I hope it is right. Given the history of women's cycling coverage only showing the last 30km wouldn't be a surprise!
  20. The whole race was supposed to be televised but equipment problems forced them to skip most of it.
  21. The lady's fleche is on in 25 mins. Oh that is so punny. Groan.
  22. I got 1,628EUR using Denmark as my location. Taxes here are great ;-)
  23. Bike24 has it "out of stock) for R32,000 https://www.bike24.com/p2396397.html
  24. Now that more info is available... I like: traditional freehub that is backwards compatible (a win over sram and shimano), 9 tooth smallest, weight (I'm not a weight weenie but it is a metric people like), clutch AND switch for holding the RD open, new patented BB seals (if they work). I don't like: it's a first edition (I don't like first editions), very little shaping and lifting on cassette and chain, the complex crank assembly, the thumbies (never liked them) but most of all - the price! I'm sticking with Shimano's top of the line GRX815 Di2 and keeping the other R8k for now...
