Lots of guys on Raleigh RC 2000 outruns guys on Cannondales, Madones and Cervelo's. A guy won his age category at the USN vets tour a year or so back with a 10 year old cromolly bike with downtube shifters. Some delivery guy in takkies no toe clips on an entry level Dion Raleigh will also still beat some of the pretenders on their Cannondales and Colnagos.

There is unfortunately no race in Pretoria this weekend. What happened is the following. Speke and Bmw changed dates to accomodate a sponsor for the SAWA Classic. The sponsor withdrew with the end result that the race will nor be presented by Speke this weekend. It is not a BMW race. The Kermesse race was also cancelled by PMCC. Anyone for a social ride on the Klipdrift road.

Is proper bike setup relly necessary. Who do you recommend?

Commuting daily at 5:50 in Pretoria. Not cold once you get going. Before ride drink quite a bit of cold water. Seems to make it not so cold. Maybe all in the mind. Do about 40 km per day. Ride a mountainbike with very wide knobbies and stick mostly to the pavements. Worked out a very nice route. Wear jeans to work which do not really crease. Leave shoes and so at work. Commute takes about 20 odd minutes longer than by car.

The suggestion is that we do a team time trial with a minimum of 6 riders per team. All the riders times count individually. In other words everybody on the same team starts together and get their own times. This way we have only one start per club/team. In other words there is no frills attached. No medals, no coke, no toilets closeby, no marshalls, no first aid, no marshalls, etc,etc AND OF COURSE NO ENTRY FEES. Who is in and who is not?
