  1. Jungle oats bars and 32GI Chews
  2. I am currently using the two piece and I also found that I wear a L top with a M short. Ok I will stick to the two piece then. The peeing reason is reason enough.
  3. Which is more comfortable for long distance triathlons like half distance IM and full IM events?
  4. For an event like IM usually 2-3 weeks tapering.
  5. If it is a wet and cold race, what is the best clothes to wear? Dont want to be to warm or cold.
  6. You could sub with someone until 7 March. But you will be running under your own name. They need your ID at registration before giving you your race number etc.
  7. There will be tears on Southern Cross Drive!
  8. Yes, I have started exercising with a Biokineticist this week. We are starting a two month program from next week to hopefully be ready before the tri season starts again.
  9. I am doing the half with severe ITB. So I am going to take it easy and hoping for not to much pain. After this I am taking 6 weeks off running and cycling to get rid of it once and for all.

    2012 Ironman

Same for me. Starting my training after the Two Oceans.
  11. +1 The 310xt is bulky, but you get used to it very quickly.
  12. 21km running for me equals about 100km cycling. My average heart rate for running is about 10 bpm higher that for cycling. Running definitely gives me a much better cardio workout than cycling.
  13. 3 Towers event looks like great value. Pity it is the same weekend as the Midlands Ultra Tri
  14. I don't think its just the mess it makes. I see power bar packets, energy bar packets, chips etc also being littered. Its a mindset problem. The same people probably also throw their rubbish out of their car window.
  15. This is bad. I just cannot understand why it is so difficult to put the empty packet back into your pocket where it came from. I saw so many guys at the Argus just throwing their packets on the street without even giving it a second thought.

    argus times

I rode with my wife and we did a 6:02 from XX! Our goal was a sub 4:30. She cramped from just after Smits and it was a struggle to get home, but she did it! I am just glad we made it safely to the finish as we saw a lot of crashes this year.
  17. Physio said I could do the race, but not at normal race pace. So I am going to take it very easy and ride with my wife. No time in mind. I just want to get my legs going again this week before the Argus. I don't want to struggle up chappies and suikerbossie.
  18. My wife and I had an agreement last year, while she was pregnant , that I can go mad and do whatever races (MTB,Road,Tri,Running) I wanted, unless I buy her an MTB after the Argus this year. So it is almost that time and I have no idea where to start and what women specific bikes are out there and what specs to look for (dual/hardtail,26/29er) etc etc. My budget +- R12000. She has been a roadie for a number of years, so we have the necessary equipment.
  19. Thanks for the advice. I guess shorter intense rides do make more sense given that I already have a good fitness base. My ITB is not completely healed, probably about 70% there.
  20. I have not trained since the 70.3 IM in January due to a badly inflamed ITB and have gone for weekly physio sessions. I am now allowed to start cycling from today and was looking to do a long ride over the weekend just as a warm up for the Argus. My goal time before the ITB problem was a sub 3:30. Realistically, how much fitness would I have lost not training for the past 6 weeks. Is it better to rest some more or try to get some long training rides in before Sunday?
  21. I must be honest, I don't care if the whole field drafts. Its still an individual sport for me and those that draft and feel good about themselves for finishing with a PB- good for them. I am proud to have finished the race without anyone's help and I still see it as a major achievement. And I feel special.
  22. Wow, doing the Transdraak a month or so before the IM is brave. I did the TransBaviaans last year and it was hard on the body. I took 10 days off training to recover my body fully. I guess it depends on where you are with your training schedule for the IM. There is also the chance of injury on a race like that.
  23. I might be a little biased towards the Garmin as I have been using my 310XT for swimming, cycling, running, gym etc and it is very easy to use, does not have a bunch of accessories to carry along, GPS works just about anywhere, great for multisport and has loads of data. I cannot comment on the RXC5, but my wife had the Polar RS800CX. Very good looking watch with loads of data and much smaller than the 310XT, but you need an accessory for just about everything before you can start using it effectively. The GPS unit was crap. Regularly lost signal and the batteries had to be replaced every second week. With that unit you had to send the watch in to Polar to replace the battery. So you are without your training watch for a period of time, which is very irritating if you are an active athlete. Her heart rate monitor strap and foot pod also started giving problems. She has since switched to the 310XT and is loving it. Having said all this, the review of it seems pretty good. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/06/polar-rcx5-in-depth-review.html I would therefore go for the new Garmin 910XT. From what I have read it is even better than the 310XT. I am just not sure when it will be available in RSA. Review: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/10/garmin-forerunner-910xt-in-depth-review.html
  24. Totally agree. The Tri rule of being DQed if you litter seems to work. It should be implemented in all cycle races.

    2012 Ironman

I did my first 70.3 this year and I am hooked. I was planning to do the Full as well, while I am in training mode, but I will unfortunately not be able to do it this year due to this flippen irritating ITB. I am now focusing on getting it sorted before the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. I will definitely be at the 70.3 and Full next year.
