  2. Would be interested to hear some opinions on this Recently I bought myself a Giant TCR Advanced frame. Today I went for ride here in CT and got caught in some heavy downpours on black hill and chappies. Roads were extremely wet thoughout my +-3hr ride. I was soaked when I got home. As I lifted the bike on its back wheel I could hear the water in the frame. I turned the bike around a few times to make sure I heard water. While the bike was upside down I could see water seeping out by the seatpost.I took the seatpost out completely, turned the bike upside down and at least a 1/2 cup of water came out if not more. This is the 2nd time it happended after riding in heavy rain. The Giant does have big hole at the bottom of the frame where the cables go through Is this normal? Anyway of sealing or minimizing this? I had a merida scultura before and it had 4 tiny holes at the back/botton of the chainstay. After riding in the rain I would tilt the bike on its back wheel and the water would all come out there. Can water in your frame damage it long term?
  3. I've always ridden shimano all the years. Recently I changed to Sram red. The biggest difference for me the feel of the 2 groupsets. In my opinion shimano is more smoother and refined whereas sram has a more harder and mechanical feel to it. I'm still getting to use to the double tap click system. Often I click once and the gear drops down instead of going up. I love the feel of the ceramic bearings tho Having said that I am enjoying the change and getting use to it all the time. Like Tiny K said its really a personal choice.
  4. Recently I changed from shimano to Sram red. Having bought the bike second hand a few minor tweaks needed to be done. I had the bike at 2 previous mechanics, one private and the other one a shop in CT, I did the WC express but my gears were never 100%. I was seriously thinking of going back to shimano Took the bike to BMC, 2 hrs later they emailed me a quote. Next day I collected the bike and Jared who worked on my bike was not there. Kevin took half an hr to explain in detail what he did, also chatted a bit about about shimano vs Sram. Guys you really blew me away with your attitude and treatment towards customers and the high standard of workmanship Will definitely be back Keep up the awesome work guys
  5. Hey Flymango I was one of the guys in the DC teams, we were in the blue UNIOR kit We had an awesome ride and didn't mind pacing, pity we lost 2 of our guys to a puncture and broken rear derailer
  6. Some feedback for you Wayne I've been looking for kit as well. Been to a few shops around CT, Olympic, Bridge, cyclelab On average you will pay R1200-R1600 for original bibs and R700-R900 for a top, Quality is good but personally I wont pay that much either. Just got back from anatomic factory shop and there is nothing you will like. I came across cycling-jersey.net and decided to take a chance knowing that it is not original. Cost came to 56 dollars with delivery. I placed a order on the 29 Aug and yesterday my credit card was debited with R405 and I received a tracking no via email. I am interested to see if this is legit and how it compares to other original kits in terms of quality. I bought an imported CSC kit from CWC a few yrs back and after many miles that chamios still looks new and material nice and soft. So the quality kits come at a price. My friend ordered a 2011 BMC top from all4cycling.com. It cost him 79 euros. They hit him heavy with customs and express delivery in 1 week. You can clearly see this is an original, top quality made by Hincapie sportswear
  7. Thought you were bad, I dropped from D to I Did not do much races this season but 5 groups is alot I'll probably just focus on the Argus tour 2012
  8. Yep in my experiance I had to get a size bigger. My mtb shoe is 45 It may be different for you Initially when I started looking for a shoe I went online to check shoe size charts and most of them were different. I chose to buy at a shop cause I was'nt sure of the fit. Its obviuosly easier if you know your exact size in a specific brand cause then you will pay cheaper online or manage to get a special like this. You have to make the call either take the chance or not Very happy with the shoes
  9. Check the shoe size chart on the asg website, may give you some idea although its always better to try the shoe on. I wear a size 10 and recently bought a 46 sidi shoe. Space in front of my toe is about 1/2 finger which is perfect. Dont wait too long, awesome prices.
  10. How is the timing done, manually? I only received a race no at registration
  11. My 14th coming up 2:51 in 2008 Interesting my best overall postion was 2009 with the gale force winds
  12. I had an eventful race. I started with 3 friends, 2 of them never did a mtb race before. The one guy had 3 punctures, eventually sitting along the route with patch & solution fixing tubes. We all learn the hard way 38km into the race on one of the descents a guy in front of me had a heavy crash. He sustained a bad gash in his right arm and we had to stop. Luckily a lady stopped and offered her headband so we wrap it around his arm to stop the bleeding. Called for backup and they sent a 4x4 to fetch him Hope it all went well Gavin From there onwards we took an easy ride to the finish and came in under 5hrs With all the drama on the day I had an enjoyable ride and managed to get 2 people hooked into mtb'ing Besides the congestion at the first singletrack, waterpoints were well positioned towards the end of the race and plenty of liquids. They learned from the last 2 years Will be back next, hopefully for the grape escape

  20. Hi Fellow cyclists Last I lost a dear friend to cancer (Burketts Lymphoma). He was diagnosed in 2009 and within a space of 9-10 months lost his battle. In memory of Nasser and fellow cancer sufferers we as a group of friends decided to do the cycle tour together and raise some funds. We have chosen the GROOTE SCHUUR NEWBORN TRUST as the beneficiary. As some of you may of heard there is a campaign going in conjuntion with Heart 104.9, Cape argus and Pick 'n Pay to raise money to buy incubators for Somerset Hospital. Last year the campaign was for Groote Schuur itself. We also arranged with the cycletour trust to start in a special group. We having prints made with his photo and will be selling it for R100 each. Philip from RAPID SPORT has kindly offered to supply the material and stitching free of charge. We only have to pay for the printing. All proceeds will go to NEWBORNS I would like to appeal to all fellow cyclists to make a donation even if its not R100, any amount will help. Should you require further info I can put you in contact with the Fund raising manager of the new borns trust (Erica Jacobs) who will gladly supply you with further info. I've been in the neonatal unit twice as my wife works there, once before the new incubators and once afterwards. I can cetainly tell you that your donations and contributions will go a long way in helping those premature babies, They are literally the lengh of a size 10-11 cycling shoe and weigh between 800-1000 grams My no is 073 2789112 if you need more details Thanks
  21. Spat so now you gona win your group on Sun
