  1. I picked up my garmin 2nd hand for just under r2k 3 or 4 years back. Strapped to the surf ski, or taped to the canoe it can tell me how far i've paddled. Strapped to my wrist it can tell me how far i've run, how lost i got at orienteering or how fast i managed to get to in free fall. Strapped to my bike it can give me information there. Lot more useful than the polar as far as i'm concerned.... It's a great little tool. My phone can do all these things, but the garmin is a lot more replacable. Pick the correct tools for the job and the one's your happy using.
  2. On the open water swim front, find a dam or something and measure the length on google maps. That should cover the distance issue. But practising sighting, and learning how to swim in straight line without the line at the bottom of the pool is vital!
  3. Does this mean you're going to have a look around at reserving a new user name?
  4. Just out of interest, to see how things are progressing, how did licence renewal go at the beginning of this year for those who had issues last year? Purely out of interest and no hidden agenda...
  5. Epic Cycles.
  6. erm, off memory so it may be a little off but, training->training options->auto pause->auto timer pause Then you can choice what speed it should stop at, or just go with "when stopped".
  7. Also it helps prep you for dc. At about 200km, as you go past that cheese shop on the way into Swellendam, frantically trying to get onto the back of your group before they become unreachable, every km you've done whilst almost broken really helps.
  8. You'll be tired for the sunday race, but you'll be amazed at how much stronger you get.
  9. Only you can say if your saddle bag is embarassing. Are you embarrased by it? edit: Fixed stupid grammer mistakes... Decado2009-08-12 10:31:27
  10. Most embarrasing moment ever:- Getting a stomach bug and throwing up outside constantia village, then being offered a peppermint from a restaurant by a bergie to clear the taste up. Sorry, jb's peppermint comment set me off. Decado2008-11-28 06:27:57
  11. The wheel alone doesn't have the load bearing down on it and (up until the moment of release) has exactly the same torque driving it. So F = ma (can't completey recall the angular version) F is constant (although will decrease), mass is much less so acceleration increases.
  12. Funnily enough i had exactly the same problem at about the same time last night. Also packing up the bike for a trip to joberg?
  13. Oh, and cape storm are having a sale at the moment So their bib shorts are currently selling for R330 or so. On the one ride i've taken them on they seem awesome.
  14. I've taken my forerunner 305 paddling many times and it's been fine (including numerous swims). It seems to vary a bit from unit to unit though. Admitidly the forerunner has less obvious holes than the edge so things may vary there. Decado2008-10-06 03:20:00
  15. define "too far". To far for what?
  16. i'm slightly concerned by rule 14 they have on their website... http://www.dieburgercycletour.co.za/info.asp 14. A rider shall not smoke on the route during the Die Burger Cycle Tour, except at a designated smoking area where provided. I'm keen to know where the designated smoking area's will be.
  17. So, if i want to get a set of wheels from crc for example all i need to factor in is 15% vat to bring it over?
  18. Who around cape town stocks Easton's and what sort of price are you looking at for EA-90's?
  19. On the outside of the leg? If so then it's more likely to be an ITB issue. The ITB joins at that knobbly bit on the outside of the knee. Would suggest going to see a physio rather than playing around with crank length.
  20. DT, they got lost on the way back from tokai

    705 garmin

I've even used my 305 K1 paddling and it's survived the odd swim perfectly. Still a little hesitant on putting it on the surf ski though... Salt water may be a little much.
  22. The forerunner 50 doesn't have gps https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10527 It measures distance off a foot pod or a cycle sensor though.
  23. Okay, cheers all. Will get the shoes this month and then the pedals will get added to my performance reward programme somewhere.
  24. Cheers! I guess float being movement around the cleat? Surely that would waste more energy?
  25. Currently i'm using shimano mtb pedals on my road bike. I've convinced myself that road specific shoes are the way forwards, as the extra stiffness will mean less energy loss. But do the road specific pedals add any real measurable difference?
