  1. Was also considering Dirty South but it looks closer to a luxury bike tour than a race. They do however have a 5 day road stage race they are launching end of September that I am very interested in.
  2. There are charities that get entries for free from the organisers, think the agreement of people who use those entries is that they must raise at least the amount of the entry fee in donations for the charity.
  3. Its the 1st one so no one has done it before, but the organisers are decent, I expect a kind of informal, no frills type of an event
  4. I think the "hate" is more directed towards the lady in 1D who had dedicated help in getting to the fastest time. That said, there are no prizes for being the fastest lady on the long route, only bragging rights. The actual prizes go to the ladies in the 78km race, so I have no issue with someone getting helped, (as long as there are no e-bikes involved 🙃)
  5. I think that was the plan from the organisers initially? But City & Province didn't come to the party, logistically too big an ask to shut down the city traffic 2 days in a row + having half the province ambulances occupied in the city for 2 days etc.
  6. Not quite following, I don't see the issue, the ladies in 1A and 1B that rode similar fast times were also being pulled by "male" bunches, seriously doubt any of them were doing pulls up front. A lady who wants to be eligible for a prize including age cats need to do the 78km race, any position in the 109 race for them is just a virtual noddy badge anyway. I think its pretty cool bragging rights for the 10 ladies who managed to do a sub 3, very rare achievement for amateur ladies.
  7. think its just a case of the website not yet updated and Entry Ninja still linking to last 2024
  8. For your Friday - Weltevrede Road just south-west of Prince Albert is an easy out & back - 50km in total - with some nice scenery, but likely not better than the personalised ride @Prince Albert Cycles can organise you Then just in general, probably wont fit into your current itinerary, but Kruisrivier (west of Oudtshoorn) down to Calitzdorp past the dam is a great ride for a bike trip. Full trip from Oudtshoorn to Calitzdorp via Kruisrivier would be about 70km
  9. Just to add to the other answers - official seeding events are on the CTCT website, but basically any event timed by Finishtime can potentially count towards your seeding (Cycle Tour Trust have a habit on tweaking criteria from one year to the next so you can never be 100% sure what the criteria is) If you just want to move up a few groups then any event mtb or road will do. If you want to race at the sharper end you need to do a few events, preferably more difficult ones. PPA One Tonner & Double Century as mentioned probably the best recent races to lower your seeding index.
  10. You outsprinted me by 1 second, I should work on my finishing....
  11. Well done, also @, I was generally speaking about 30w less than you on the climbs with roughly the same weight. Which would explain why I got dropped on Chappies 😀
  12. Do they though? I almost never see any consequences for people who jump ahead to start in earlier groups. And to be fair to the marshals, also something very difficult to police in practice and one trouble maker can occupy a marshal for minutes while 10 others slip trough.
  13. Sub-3's till one 1F, definitely was the year to chase it...
  14. Just a minor moan, flippen beer tent that only sells beer from 11h00. As if I am going to hang around for an hour and a half to buy my first beer after the race, then I'll just go drink my beer somewhere else 😝 What great weather we had today, PBs all around, hard to beat a day like today on the bike.
  15. Ride to the start, lots of others will also. Then when you finish you are at your accomodation, no need to ride into town to fetch your car.
  16. Yes - unfortunately Cycle Tour doesn't take age cat racing seriously. Will be a massive (and dodgy) bunch till around Smitswinkel with a lot of people there that don't really belong in age cat racing. Around Chappies the actual racing starts
  17. My fastest time at the CTCT was when I was dead tired after a week of hard TdC racing, still don't get the logic of how that played out, but hopefully on Sunday you will also get to laugh at all the people who tapered this week...
  18. 500 was bulletproof - had it many years, currently happy with my 530 - no issues 520 was a disaster for me, worked through 3 of them in 2 years, had the weirdest random issues, each of them basically only lasted 6 months. Made me invest in a cheap Xoss so that I have a cycling computer while Garmin took their time responding to my issues.
  19. How is Tour de Cap going? Must have been an easy morning if you are hanging around on the hub 😀
  20. Yes, time splits mostly pointless other than to remind you that the difficult part of the route is in the 2nd half of the race. The rest will be determined by your group & weather on the day.
  21. Hate to say it but if its out of warranty Garmin SA is not going to be much help to you. Best you can hope for from them is an offer to replace with a refurbished unit at slightly better than normal retail price (but not better than you can get with a bit of digging on the internet)
  22. Officially no, and the last group starts before 9h00 so even for Elites it would be a stretch to get back from the finish to the start in time before the last group leaves. Sure there are some rogue riders who do it unofficially and enter the route somewhere else (trickier than you might imagine), just remember to take off your timing chip as to not get recorded attempting the route again.
  23. Maybe he meant friend & ally like Trump is for Ukraine?....
  24. Entered... Are you part of the WC gravel series again?
  25. Well yes certainly beyond my abilities as well! But I know people who managed it...
