  1. Liked the route for the most part, but agree, venue cannot handle more people and that gravel section will always be hugely unpopular. Maybe ok as a neutral zone to start off but not repeating it 3 times.
  2. Weird to me as well.... Cannot imagine how that holder thingie and timing board properly tied with a zip tie will just fall off 🤷‍♂️
  3. Seems like the seeding is still done on Racetec and its a manual process to move the data over from Finishtime? Possibly they will do it early next week in time for the Tour de PPA?
  4. Semi-joking.. But if I want to do a long ride from the northern suburbs I ride in a different direction. If I want to ride Chappies/Suikerbossie I park in town and ride from there. I don't miss the drag through the badlands at all.
  5. In your car and park in or near the waterfront, who wants to risk their bikes to cycle the boring bits through the flats anyway?....
  6. wow, did not even know you can go down that side from Beaverlac! I have done the rest of your loop without issues (from The Baths). The only bit where it was a bit tricky was at the bottom section (a bit after Baths where you turn left to meet up with the route you started on), it goes over private land and I took a few wrong turns (didn't have the benefit of GPS at the time) but still managed to cross without any major issues.
  7. Maybe share the route you want to take.... Are you planning to go through the mountains or standard roads?
  8. My wild guess somewhere in the "1" groups, probably around 1B or 1C
  9. Speaking of lazy bunches, % was lazy as hell for the first 25km. We were only averaging something like 37km/h with a proper tailwind and I was worried A would catch us soon (did not know at the time that A was as lazy as us and all the working bees were in B). Then luckily on the drag after the Klipheuwel silos few guys upfront upped the pace, the elastic stretched and when it snapped it we were about 10 peeps with a small gap over the rest. Break-away guys made a paceline, all worked together and there was just no chance a bunch of wheelsuckers and 2 or 3 working were ever going to close the gap, what a lekker feeling to look behind you a few kilos later and not see anyone 😀
  10. apparently CTCT also up on last year, but maybe a bit premature to claim glory days 🤣
  11. Heard there are 2000 entries on the long route, increase on last year. Very glad for the organisers and it would explain the lower seedings
  12. All the best @Wannabe - unfortunately now you have to do another 20 in a row before you can close that chapter....😉
  13. Some other big races as well, seem to recall national road championships as well but I am not going to dig in the archives now to find the names 🤣.
  14. You can look on the PPA website what your seeding index is and how it was calculated. The seeding system not perfect but it works fairly well. Your old 99er result would not help much for the next year, they apply penalties to events that happened longer than 6 months ago.
  15. Mine is also lower than I expected, but possibly entries were high and the field could be stronger than usual. Past few years the 99er date clashed with nationals & some other big races, this year only Tankwa?
  16. About 2km more or less
  17. Parking problematic in Durbanville. If you don't mind parking a bit further away then the parking garage in Village Square or even the DVille centre should be safe options.
  18. My guess is sometime today, unless something went wrong with the seeding process. Timing by finishtime, so you will get a temp chip at registration.
  19. Man I hated that app, found it to be very intrusive. Don't want to know every time one of my family members strays a few meters from the house. Maybe there are some settings I misssed to make it less annoying but was just easier to delete it.
  20. Miss the part where he is calling them out, just asking for alternatives? I see nothing wrong with that.
  21. Surely you deserve a medal for all the planning & effort that went into beating the system, dispose of your timing chip, make your way back and get back onto the route, find your partner and then get that second finish?
  22. Sure - only problem is the barriers over the last few kms are deliberately quite big to keep people out (and I assume cyclist in). So its not just for quietly sliding off the side, you will have to physically climb over big barriers with your bike in full view of the marshals, crowds and loads of finishing cyclists.
  23. Personally I would avoid the N1, its just stupid busy. Would not be fun even with a back-up vehicle behind you. Problem with area north of the N1 is that you run out of tar roads unless you go far north over Williston/Calvinia and then come down the west coast. If its tar only I would suggest take the N9 south of Colesberg and go through the upper eastern cape and klein karoo (willowmore, oudshoorn) - should be more guest house options that side as well. and a bit more scenic as well.
  24. Just to note the road between Loxton and Sutherland is not tarred (unless it happened very recently) Also the N12, I am sure its better than the N1 but my gut feel also not ideal for cycling given trucks and relatively high traffic, might help if you have a support vehicle driving behind you. Maybe someone on here has attempted it. To add - you dont have to end in Worcester, Bainskloof, Franschoek or Nuwekloof can get you over the mountains
  25. Probably the easiest would be over Kloofnek back to Camps Bay. Have never heard of anyone getting in trouble for this but in theory organisers might not react too kindly to someone crossing the line twice with the same timing chip, if you can take it off before you get onto the route for the second time that would be the safest option. Disclaimer - you know what you are planning is against the rules and (again in theory but maybe not so much in the real world) can get you disqualified from the event in future...
