  1. As I recall the prize money was something like R10K per team. (Which is why I find it cute how ideas are being thrown about how to throw more rules & motivations at the social riders to make the race nicer for the racing snakes because peeps here imagine this is a priority for the organisers)
  2. You disqualify 50 teams but 150 get away with doing the same thing I want to see how well the "At least we tried" excuse will fly in the post-race fallout. If the safety of the fastest teams was the bigger concern then organisers would have stuck with the 2020 format which is easy to marshal. Fine if the okes have their rant on here but you should know by now you are signing up for a free-for-all murdering spree 😋
  3. And if the marshal get to the group by the time its a free for all with different groups completely mixed together in massive bunches - they will spent all day hunting down people and still miss most. And due to the format it can happen literally any place at any time during the day. Stand by my point its the format that is "unmarshalable". Unfortunately this event is not about the faster teams.
  4. I don't think it was a bike marshal, seems like a regular motorist. From what I understand the rider was hit by a Guinea fowl on the head while driving, there was also a passenger who survived but is in hospital.
  5. If you can have rolling road closures at least while the faster teams are around I think it can work - traffic was relatively light until Montagu. Happy to agree to disagree on the marshals, I don't think the rules are enforceable on the current format. At least half the field will end up being disqualified and still there would be issues - for me its the format not the marshals that's the bigger issue.
  6. 2020 with the different starting order the marshals had a doable job - easy to separate 2 teams when there is no one else around. Once mass groups form the presence of marshals is fairly pointless, impossible to enforce the rules in the current format.
  7. You genuinely think the only reason social teams are slow is because they are encouraged by nice seedings? The event will be killed off long before social teams are "encouraged" to ride faster.
  8. Haha! Touche - this is why you don't post after a few glasses of wine. Thought I agreed until I wasn't anymore... You weren't in team 223 by any chance?
  9. Agree with you - 2,5K riders generally starting from slower to fastest then bunches are going to happen on the route, unavoidable - no point moaning about it - its basically physics 101 Covid year worked well for the faster teams but the social teams that started late really struggled, so its basically going to kill off the event it they revert to that format. Best to just get used to the idea. Think the best solution would be road closures, even if its only for part of the day - its not as if those roads are that busy anyway on a Saturday morning.
  10. Looking forward to the race report! Geez seems like a minor miracle that you managed to get a team on the starting line!
  11. With 12 peeps in the team there are so many stars that needs to align on the day & week beforehand to get to you goal. And if people drop out in the week most likely all riders that potentially can ride sub-6 and are decent team players are already taken!
  12. Did you make your sub-6 @DieselnDust?
  13. Normal washing with my other laundry... The chamois is still fine but the other material stretches out. Also I don't have issues with any of my other bibs
  14. I see lots of peeps in Ciovita bibs so they must be doing something right more often than not. However I purchased 2 end of last year and neither of them lasted the full year before they were "see through" and I was grossing out peeps around me. And now that I'm aware of it I spot "see through" Ciovita bibs every now and then... So no thanks, will rather pay a bit more and have something that last longer than 6 months. If you have a limited budget and liked the first ascent stuff in the past I would say stick with that. Personally I found them a bit uncomfortable on very long rides but they lasted longer for me than ciovitas.
  15. If I could only change one thing about Tygerberg it would be the day pass system - so frustrating that I cannot invite non-members or friends from out of time to do a day of riding with me on our trails. I would give the club the benefit of the doubt and I assume there are good reasons for this, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.
  16. Problem is you can' really ride TBMC properly with a day pass - at least not one and even with more than one the member only corridors still make it annoying.
  17. Attack happened last year - it was quite a violent incident https://www.pressreader.com/south-africa/cape-times/20210623/281565178724765 That road used to be part of my regular training route and by chance I came upon incident just after it happened. What particularly scared me was that this wasn't opportunistic but a carefully planned ambush Just before that there were 2 seperate incidents I was aware off where cyclists of my club were chased by thugs but managed to get away. As I mentioned in my previous post, because it is a bit hidden by the N1 you actually don't realise how close that road is to Wallacedene and how easy it is to set up an ambush there. If you do decide to take your chances just be vigilant and steer very wide of peeps loitering on the road.
  18. I personally would avoid the section of this route just past Kraaifontein (the Waarburgh road section just after Kraaifontein) if I was you - there has been a few attempted attacks there and at least one successful mugging where people I know were attacked with pangas. That road is deceptively close to Wallacedene with easy access for criminals. I have also heard of attempted muggings where you cross the railroad from Kraaifontein into Joostenbergvlakte just before that section.
  19. Just this morning a kid was wiped out from his motorcycle by a car at the same place - that spot is super dangerous!
  20. But most parts of Adderley road don't have that shoulder? So if you are going to cycle down to the R304 you are going to spend a lot of time on the tar anyway. I find that motorists on that road are generally aware that cyclists use that road often and pass wide (the part I get really scared is close to the Fisantekraal school where the mommies on the school run often drive like maniacs) The R304 I generally avoid if I'm on my road bike except occasionally on weekends when its sometimes quieter. If I'm on the mtb I stick to the gravel shoulder as far as possible.
  21. Nowadays with less events timed on Racetec they are fairly open to upgrading your CTCT seeding if you can provide proof of a good result - have seen a few mates talk themselves into the sharp end of the field. Your "unofficial" 94.7 time will surely do the trick. 😉
  22. Not anymore, that stopped when 94.7 dropped Racetec
  23. Yes Racetec used to be owned by the Cycle Tour Trust, but as I have it they have been an independent company for a while now
  24. I agree that lots of data makes it easier, but I have seen companies with lots of data (looking at you SA Seeding) still having crappy systems with weird arbitrary seeding results. Racetec's calcs are transparent and their formula logical (even if you don't agree 100% with it) Agree that in the long run a central database would be ideal.
  25. The technology might be a bit old, not arguing there. But results are always up on the same day as the event including for the CTCT which have 20K+ entrants. And for all its imperfections I have never seen another seeding system in SA come close to the Racetec seeding system. Yes what they don't have (or don't do quite well) is the instant tracking thing - which is usually a bit messy anyway.
