  1. For sure Frank Zappa is 'on topic' - he even wrote a song: Billy the mountain (biker)!
  2. SIGNS PLEASE! I've been riding Tokai for ages, always riding up the single track, including up the berm - I've never ever thought of it as a 'downhill track' just another single track. Sure, now i've been educated different story. Point is how am i supposed to know? Had a similar thing on my ride on Sunday. Riding up to Noordhoek Peak, i took a detour to the fire look-out, only to be confronted by a hiker, who said i was breaking the law for riding there. In fact he asked if i was a rescuer??? And if that was the reason i was there WTF? I asked if he was the mountain god, and if so where te F*ck were the signs to tell me not to ride there!
  3. I was thinking yesterday, as i was riding up to Tafelberg road via the blockhouse (by myself) that we shold post when we riding on TM on the hub, to try meet up and make it safer.
  4. Ja,it looks like i'll only be using the cheap ones now! they called protrek or something can't remember.
  5. So I go the the bike shop to buy some new brake pads for my Juicy 7's, expecting to pay about R200. I see that they have the original Avid pads at R200 and a generic brand at R70. I don't like to f*ck around when it comes to stopping, so i'm all ready to pay the R200. But i ask the dude at the shop who reckoned that the Cheapies were jsut as good - so i got them. Been riding twice since then and they seem fine. Anyone else had a similar experience - or anyone know if there is a reason I should be spending R200 instead of R70? In fact, now that I think of it, last time I bought pads (about 5 months ago) another shop recommended a generic set that cost the same as the Avids! Now i'm really confused!
  6. Must have huge amount of drag!
  7. Produx bikes, made in South Africa, i'd never heard of them. My boet just bought one, its called a sidewinder, really old, but has a rear shock (air shock that i pumped up to 120psi) that still works - somewhat!
  8. Why only when your mates aren'y watching? 'cos he looks like a clown perhaps?
  9. Chubba is a legend!
  10. Thanks Covie, I'll give them a call.
  11. Is this not a repeat post? The punishment of which is the posting of a skin pic!
  12. Ja, the insurance for heli-vac in europe also costs about the same as a pizza, which is why everyone takes it out. In SA we obviously can't do it at low costs - too few mountain users. Which is why in SA it is Free - unless of course you have medical aid, in which case the medical aid pays. As i mentioned earlier - in many cases, using a helicopter for mountain rescue works out cheaper than not. BTW - a small helicopter as far as i know uses about 200l fuel per hour - so fuel costs not that high.
  13. I'm with you on this one gwhite, and in fact in a lot of cases it ends up being cheaper using a chopper as a quick response time can reduce the overall medical bill - and possibly save a life.
  14. I thought airforce did all that for free? Fuel cost on a small chopper like the ones used by netcare can't be more than R8000 per hour.
  15. While accidents are obviously just that, it's a huge waste of our city resources with a heli-vac going at about R16k/h. Really?? - that seems a tad high.
  16. ha ha Tankman, more chance of me finding cracks in my rear, not rear wheel. Thanks Covie, I checked the CWC website and couldn't see any 28 hole rims. I assume that as this is a 28 hole rim, I would need to replace with a 28 hole rim - if i want to keep the hub, which is fine.
  17. Hi, I have recently discovered a couple of cracks in my rim around the spoke nipples. It is a bontrager race lite wheel. I would like to replace the rim, but can't seem to find a replacement. Any idea who sells these rims, or could you suggest an alternative rim. What I would like to do is buy a new Shimano slx wheelset, but don't have the cash at the moment.
  18. Trek all the way!! I have an ex 9 which i love, great for xc and riding trails.
