  1. BEER..... :-) I am going to cycle with a small backpack the has juice in it (and my tools etc in case of punctures). Thought as I MTB all the time I am comfortable stocking up then. Also I will take some gels to get me to the end but that's easy cycling or running Rouxtjie...... You better not have coffee at the finish line like you told me. ICE cold beers by the dozen
  2. Ha Ha time to put the old cassette back on. May be I can add some flippers etc :-) Sounds like that beer after the race is going to be well earned. I cam't wait................. May be I should use the GF's bike or Rouxtjie's
  3. By the sounds of it I should take off the new cassette and chain and put back the old one if it rains....... Pity the training bike is not up and running yet....
  4. Rouxtjie has thrown the towel in on the race as it's going to be too muddy. For his punishment he said he will wash my bike, shoes, clothes helmet etc AND have a beer ready for me when I finish :-)
  5. Hope Hubs, ZTR crest Rims seems to be a great combination
  6. SRAM will work with a SRAM or Shimano Front derailer. SRAM how ever has to have a SRAM rear derailer. As for cassettes, I have normally been running SRAM cassette with a SRAM setup, but the GF's bike was running SRAM shifters, XT front derailer, SRAM rear derailer, SLX cranks and a shimano cassette. She has now moved over to the SRAM cassette. Has not made any difference in the shifting. Also the PG990 cassette and the PG980 cassette is 5grams difference, so if your not worried about colour go for that one. It only comes in black.
  7. Just buy a Merida I have normally found it's just the tire, especially on a tubeless rim. On other rims that have been comverted it can be from using the wrong tubeless system for that rim and it then does not enable the tire to sit correctly on the rim.
  8. @T-girl I think your brother may be on to something :-) Time to look around and see what works. thnx for the advice......
  9. Oh no it's getting worse rouxtjie in a speedo, Polly Shorts and tights. At least we will know who he is at the xterra. Must say it's going to be quite a new advendure this race. Any tips to watch out for (apart from lack of training). Do you guys carry gels etc. I only moountain bike so I have no idea how to tackle this thing.
  10. @T-girl You had me worried there as I started reading your post. I started to picture rouxtjie in a red speedo and tights....... Looks like I will have to go try a swim or 2 in tri shorts. Hope it does not feel like I am wearing a nappy like cycling shorts after one has gone for a swim in them after a race...
  11. Ok guess it off to the shops for Tri shorts. Where did you buy the TYR tri shorts from for R300? Going to be interesting to say the least. Lets hope the rain gods play their part and stay away.....
  12. @rouxtjie I was looking forward to seeing you in the red speedo and shaved legs right to the top........ Yeah what does the ave guy wear, considering this should just be a once off race. I got a bike, cycling clothes, running shoes and swimming goggles (from the GF). My running shorts I found last night had a hole in them.... Guess I am shopping soon
  13. Just entered the Lite. My first Tri. Oh and last night was my first run in 10yrs...... Boy is this going to be a fun month How hard can it be, 400m + 15.5km + 6.8km = 22.7km...... In riding terms I will hardly be getting started
  14. Hi, I had 2 problems with my frame once. The first was a bearing on the BB which creaked a little. Changed that but things were perfect. Everytime I applied power it would creak. Turned out all I had to di was put some greese on the rear skewer and frame at the drop outs. Where it makes contact with the frame it seems to creek. I have to put a new application after and 3-4 washes of the bike.
  15. +10 for Joshua at cyclist workshop........
  16. Hi, I have a friend that is selling a Trek 4500 bike. I believe the bike has done low milage (just a bit of recrerational riding and no races etc). Comes with a lock and a helmet. I was wondering what would be rough price to sell it for. Unfortunately I have no pictures of the bike, but lets assume the components are 1/4 used. Goes for around R6k for a new 2010 model. I think this one is a year or 2 old. Specs are the following Front Suspension :SR Suntour XCM-HLO w/coil spring, preload, hydraulic lockout, 100mm travel Wheels :Shimano alloy M65 hubs; Bontrager Ranger 32-hole rims Shifters :Shimano Alivio, 9 speed Front Derailleur :Shimano Alivio Rear Derailleur :Shimano Alivio Crank :Shimano Alivio, 42/32/22 Saddle :Bontrager Evoke 1 Seat Post :Bontrager SSR, 31.6mm, 20mm offset Handlebars :Bontrager SSR, 31.8mm, 25mm rise Stem :Bontrager SSR, 31.8mm Brakeset :Shimano M445 hydraulic disc brakes
  17. I think when I am finished riding I will have a beer and put on those new redwin noir cranks sitting in my car (Brand new from a bike shop in a box transported from CT no scratches) hee hee Peace out :-)
  18. Nothing better than smooth new powerful brakes to get one excited :-) I could blame SAPO but the box is perfect and the scratch on the caliper is pretty deep and not just from a mere scrape in the box. It looks consistent with being scraped against something when you leave the bike against a face brick wall and it falls or when u have a crash. Yip like I said earlier I know what the outcome of this whole thing will be. Lessons learnt I guess. Don't deal with roaches :-) I believe I have been very honest, I started this thread without naming the person or saying anything to prevent people working out who it was until I got a final response from him. Even then I never said his name but you can't fool the hubbers for too long. He has stated his case I mine. Case closed guess. Or is it :-)
  19. For the record if you read the posts. I even asked roach for a refund for the useless rotor. I was will to let the trest slide. That was my first option. R300 back as a new rotor cost R400. I think I was being fair. Next option was a total refund. I just got a rude message back from roach. Thanx cyclocross glad your happy with the rotors
  20. I will do such thing. I could take the brakes to a bike shop if you are doubting my technical abilities. Plus we are very happy with Magura brakes and even asked another hubber on the same day I contacted papa roach u if his bagura brakes were still for sale. The same louise brakes. The brakes were damged goods and Not brand new. That is why I am not happy. They were not what was sold to me.
  21. Oh by the way I will be riding my bike with New Avid Elixir Cr brakes sold as new from a hubber that were mint and brand new condition with Hope Pro 2 hubs bought from a hubber as brand new and were just that mint condition. Many thanx to those hubbers for being honest :-)
  22. @RodTi Very valid point. I asked all the right questions but 2 mistakes. I trusted the person and I didn't ask for 20 photo's from every angle. Guess you live and learn. At least I can sleep at night. @gummibear Damn I hope he did not take them off someones bike and sell them "Brand New brakes" I can show you a picture of the box tomorrow (a Hope Brake box). There is not a mark or dent on the box. Plus both were wrapped in a hard plastic bag. The scratch on the lever could have happened but the caliper is a deep scratch. I have shown these brakes last night to another person and asked for his honest feeling and even he said they are definately NOT brand new. I guess we know what the outcome of this whole thing is. I will end up paying for a new rotor and any other expense that may be involved so the my GF will get as new as possible brakes. (she will get what she bought if I have anything to do with it) Papa Roach will sleep tonight with his roaches (hope no doom comes his way) cause naturally they don't give a damn......... Time to go home and ride my bike :-)
  23. that was before the hose was extended to fit perfectly
  24. But under the roaches definition of "Brand New Parts" at the young age of 38 I can be considered "NEW" so she does not have to worry about used parts
  25. Looks just like my GF before she found out the parts were not new
