  1. Hi, i remember reading something about the X-king protection tires and cleaning them with Meths or thinners or something before you put them on as tubeless. Can anyone remember what it was you clean the tire with?
  2. Wish I could give up my day job and come play mech in your workshop :-) One day when i am big
  3. Ok so I left some details out. I am riding with another chick while the GF is riding with a married man ha ha. At least I won't be sleeping in a tent with someone that snores :-)
  4. I would do a swap from adventure to trail but the one bunch of friends can't get more leave so they have to do the adventure. Would just be strange, My GF doing her first sani in the trail with a good mate of mine while I ride the adventure with another friend......
  5. But wait there is more. Mine comes with a free beer at registration :-)
  6. Hijack continued :-) Anyone want to swap from the Adventure to ride with mates in the Trail? PM me please
  7. Here is a photo of what the bike used to look like. Still got the orange rims in the rafters of the garage..........
  8. 2001 Gary Fisher Paragon. Had it painted this year (still got to make the stickers. This was my first real "racing" bike so I have a soft spot for it. Done the groot Marico and the 70km Cradle quest races on it this year, and basically ride all the time with it. Great training bike. Note still has the V-brakes, although I should be getting the adaptor for the rear disc brakes soon, so it may get an upgrade
  9. As a merida rider, I have to say I don't really like the look of the design, but saying that, they got the 96 pretty right as a real racing duel sus (not that I have one, still on the old 26inch HD), so I can only imagine how good these changes will be. We can send Squier and Rossaline (with no child) over to invertigate
  10. @routjie .... Shot dude. It was 11th in Cat and 21st overall... And believe me we drank beer. Last people to leave the place
  11. Rode everything except when i walked going up that last hill. Yeah my GF also on a hard tail said she put a foot down once on that section when someone else got it quite wrong in front of her, otherwise she said it was ok. But very rocky especially since you have just finished a climb.
  12. The 96 is calling me but my other bike would have been much better. The training bike has many issues. Bald tire at the front, front shock goes from 7bar to 5 bar over the first 30km so the front end starts to sag, no granny gear, V-Brakes (oh man my hands were hurting on that big down hill from pulling so hard). Back tire also claimed a puncture bit like it's owner after the last hill. Considering putting 48/38/26 for the front chain rings and a roadie 11-27 at the back instead of the current 44/34 front and 11-32 at the back. Same hard stuff up the hills as the current but bigger top end, just for fun. After all it is a training bike that somehow has now done 2 races in the last 2 months.....
  13. Waited for Marius Venter. Kerry overtook him at 13km, so she gathered he was going to have a long day. Bret HUH, he sent a message in the morning saying he had over slept. Besides he was going to do the 45km I think people will have to phone Eric to find out where the results will be as they did their own timing in the end. I did hear a rumour that quite a few people pulled out the 70km. Have to say a race like that with that many rocks etc, it became very clear how new bikes and their technology has advanced the skills on the downhills. Amazing how much control they can get out those bikes, while I bounced/rattled my way down. But hey just makes that beer at the end taste better
  14. Enjoyed the race. Have to say I took the wrong bike. Had a puncture on the other bike so decided to take along my 2001 Gary Fisher Paragon... The training bike. Standard 3x9 gearing but with no small chain ring so effectively a 2x9. Have to say I missed the granny gear up that last climb on the 70km. I eventually had to walk 3hrs 57. I did how ever wait for a mate that took 6hrs. Big up to him he came over the line not looking too bad and even managed quite a number of beers afterwards
  15. Just some feed back on the shorts situation. The courier service arrived at my work yesterday afternoon with my new shorts. +1 for the courier service. -10000000 for the local on line shop. The reason, well 10 min after I received the shorts I get an email saying we have your tracking number. Wow they definately keep track of their stuff. I did email them back to say I already had the shorts, tracking number is not required anymore Thanx to CWC for taking interest, and for that I have just made a friend buy his first order from CWC cycles for a new cassette and chain, to go with his 2nd hand wheels from routjie :clap:Looks like it's going to be an excellent day
  16. Nothing beats healthy competition that is for sure.
  17. On the latest order I did the calcs and the customs was 16.73% so play safe say 17% and you know it will be a little less. Supposed to be VAT which is 14% plus the now R30 handling/clearance fee but somehow it always works out a bit more. yeah stay away from clothing, shoes etc. that has an import duty
  18. I have to say CWC I have always had great service from them. They replies to emails very fast and when i have bought from them they have always been swift. CRC so far I think the longest I have waited is 2 weeks. But to be fair 1 week of that was actually SA and the customs. And to think I almost bought tires from the same online shop. Lucky my LBS had the same price (so in the end cheaper as there is no shipping cost)
  19. I need the damn shorts, my best pair of shorts are starting to get a little thin (not on the padding but the lycra). The world does not need to see my shorts suddenly split open while I am flying along the tracks....... I would like to spare my fellow riders the pain On a serious note lucky I have other shorts and time. I really need the pair before 3 towers, so as an excercise I am willing to see how long it takes. I was considering sending a photo of the crc order this morning to let them know they lost the race, and how much stuff they lost out on.........
  20. So last week Monday I ordered some shorts from a Locally known cycling website (not CWC they rock). Tuesday I get an email to say it has been processed and I will have a tracking number in 2 days. On the Wed. evening I ordered a whole lot of parts from CRC (I could have gotten my cassette's and chains etc locally at the same price but they didn't have the FSA K-Force Nano Light handle bar on 50% discount that my bike was begging for ). All was going according to plan. The CRC order was processed on the Thurs and by Friday morning had already left for SA. Meanwhile back in africa, I was still waiting for my tracking number for the shorts. After sending an email, I find out the suppliers don't have stock (mmmmm site said they have) and I will get the tracking number on Monday. I replied the race was on which will arrive first, the CRC ordered afterwards or the local order. (with a face for fun) Yesterday afternoon in what is a new record for me (6 days) my CRC ordered was sitting on my kitchen top waiting for me to open. (unfortunately the GF has taken the new handlebars and only giving them to me next month on my birthday ). Anyway I still didn't have a tracking number for the shorts. I emailed again. Seems they say the pick truck (not a spelling error that's what they wrote) broke down but they did collect the parcel. They will provide me with a tracking number on wed even if they have to drive to CT themselves to get it. Mmmmmm I wonder if I will get them by the weekend......... Big up the CRC on yet again another super swift service. PS. I see customs now charge R30 for a handling fee. Up from R25. Inflation hits everything :-(
  21. Just phone Judy. My GF and mate never got an email but also could pay. when I phoned she said they have an entry.
  22. Johan has that very nice Spoke cutting machine, and he sells all spakes. :-)
  23. My GF, Dad, Sister all run the Revolts. All of them had the ones with the thicker sidewalls and have had no problems. When i went to buy another one for the GF and put it on you can see the side wall thickness and even feel the difference. it's so bad that I never put the new tire on but rather put a worm in to replace the large thorn. She has been riding them for a year now and so far only had 3 punctures.... Unfortunately 1 happened this last weekend making it 2 punctures with worms now on the front tire. Not sure what to replace with as I can't seem to get the ones with the thicker side wall. in the mean time the brand new one with the thin side walls is thrown in a corner in the garage :-(
  24. The bontragers seem to be ok as long as you don't buy the ones from Solomons in the bin that have the very thin sidewalls. They had a bad batch. just make sure you get the ones with the thicker side wall... As for Rocket Rons they are great in KZN type soil but not cool for loose gravel.Even Singletrek's son has given up on them, I sported 6 stitches from then giving way on loose gravel and even singletrek's daughter didn't like them last i spoke to her. But then again he ride's a 69er
  25. Stronger than a PG990 chain thats for sure
