  1. Lots of things to do. Depending on level there are several ride groups: Engen2Engen, Illovo and Dunkeld spring to mind - depending on your fitness level. Clubs: Cycle Lab (yay!), Club 100, Cresta and if you're Jewish and over 60 there's Capri. I'll send you a PM with my email address.. jmaccelari2009-12-09 02:26:02
  2. My thoughts are with you & your family. I think the guy got off easy...
  3. If any one is interested in my opinion, I also looked at the Fortuner. It is excellent value for money, but I didn't want to be killed by an excellent value for money vehicle. I have found the Patrol to be fantastically stable on tar and dirt. I also looked at the Pajeros and was very impressed with them. The fancy Toyota Prados are for poncing around Sandton, but I was impressed by the real 4x4 Landcruiser without all the cr@p...
  4. Eugene has just spoken to his doctor and the scan went well. There is some bleeding on his brain, but the prognosis is good - Eugene says most of the doctor's patients with this type of injury walk out... He is piped up and has been put into a coma until tomorrow when we will hopefully get another update. Looks like positive news!
  5. Just a note to let fellow Hubbers know that Bertus Kruger was involved in a serious incident during his ride with the Illovo group this morning. We were going down Club Street in Linksfield when he stood up to pedal, his foot slipped and he went over the handle bars at about 40kph. He has sustained serious head injuries and was unconscious when Netcare took him away to Union Hospital. Thanks to all the Illovo guys who looked after him and kept him safe until the ambulance arrived. Thanks also go to Netcare for their rapid response. And **** you to the guy in the bakkie who swore at the car driver who parked in the middle of the road to protect Bertus and us while we were tending to him...
  6. I'd like to ride, but only if Ian "Hardcore" J promisesto push me up the hills...
  7. At least a Nissan tends to stay the right side up...
  8. Here are some links: http://kapteincaprivi.com/2008/08/23/toyota-fortuner-roll-over-problem-will-it-kill/ http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=1645&fArticleId=4965190 http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?p=392675 Want more...? Note that Toyota have admitted the problem in that they have suggested "solutions" to the problem as well as touting it as a big advantage for the "new" Fortuner...
  9. Another TOYOTA Fortuner victim. Neil Frazer was nearly a victim of one of these vehicles. When will they ban the things...?
  10. Velcro is more than strong enough - just don't use a piece the size of a cotton thread. The normal stuff that is used for straps for timing chips or the ER24 bands is adequate. It doesn't hold the bike in - gravity does that. It just stops the wheel jumping out. Cable ties would be a pain in the @rse...
  11. I see you posted in Feb about the quality of the Venters. They are not great, and you just need to appreciate that fact and look after them. I bought mine in 1994 and it's still in perfect nick. I keep it clean and well covered. If you leave them out they will fall to bits...
  12. A "helmut"? Is that a German thing, like lederhosen?
  13. I'm waiting for the 650Ds. Might be a long wait...
  14. We registered an "access" bond with ABSA. When we wanted to access the extra savings we'd put in, we were told that we couldn't since we didn't have an access bond. We showed them the docs we had signed and their response was "So what? We made a mistake, but If you want the money you'll have to re-register the bond."
  15. Geez - give these okes a chance!!! You started with the wrong group so they gave you the wrong time as the quickest way to get the results out is to assume you started when you were supposed to have. It's not their fault you didn't plan to get to the race on time... Now don't wet your panties. Give them a call and they will sort it out (if they haven't done so automatically by now). In the mean time don't slash your wrists. It really isn't worth it...
  16. We run a triple with 55/11 and have no problems with that. We found the standard 53 was not enough... As for another suggestion on going faster - how about training? jmaccelari2009-11-25 05:15:27
  17. There have been cases of members threatening officers and their families when they have tried to instill some discipline. The ranks nowadays really don't give a toss about authority. Looks like the ANC is reaping what is sowed...
  18. Well that's pretty clear, then...
  19. I tried riding with an iPod once and never again. If I see someone with an iPod, I give them a wide berth...
  20. <WET BLANKET> They were promising this 3 years ago (at least)... </WET BLANKET> The inability of CSA to run a national seeding system was the primary motive behind Cycle Lab doing so. If they didn't we wouldn't have one at all...
