  1. I saw this post by Coenie: forum_images/2_star_rating.gif avatars/wings2.jpg Joined: 2008 Nov 11 Location: Western Cape Online Status: Offline Posts: 184 forum_images/quote_icon.gif forum_images/reply.gifforum_images/bullet.gif Posted: Yesterday at 8:53pm WOW, this is bad. I was amazed to see the disorganization at this race, no expo, no goodie bag, "sorry we do not have any t-shirts in your ordered size"(why have those sizes then on the website, and it is not that they run out, they NEVER had anything bigger than L) no info on road closures, so a visiting person can find their way to PM in the morning... ......and now this is just the cherry on the cake... VERY badly organised and managed race.... Hope these guys heal up quick Edited by coenie - Yesterday at 8:55pm CAPE EPIC 2010 (2nd one) A lot of the people I spoke to complained about the Shova this year, andit seemed a real **** up from an organisational point of view: - the stupid Entelect system refused to allow me to register as a tandem (again), and I had to phone up the organisers to do a manual entry, - it then charged me for one rider, so we had to do a second transfer (and pay their "online entry fees" for a second time); - other people I met had also had problems with the entry system, and said this had caused chaos at registration; - they ran out of L and XL t-shirts at registration (we had to fill in our sizes on the Entelect system, so how did they stuff that up). - there was no information on the race in the race packs (which I rely on), so we had to quickly wander around the ****ing abysmal mtncycling web site to confirm timing chip, start time (and hope that was still correct and current), ... - there was no information on the finish having been moved, so we were quite surprised to see it as we went around the corner - the CSA and timing officials ****ed up the tandems results, so we waited arund for 2 1/2 hours waiting only not to be called up and to have to sort it out afterwards, leaving a really bad taste in my mouth (why didn't they just look at the ****ing timing results?) - there was confusion as to when and where the aforesaid prize giving was - the prize giving was then 1/2 hour late and this was blamed on the CSA. I had a chat to Annie about this, but she just said they had received nothing but compliments and I was in the wrong. Basically **** you. jmaccelari2009-10-19 00:22:58
  2. Illovo Cycles closed down about 3 months ago...
  3. The Illovo Cycling Group (ICG) is more for A/B level riders - so not beginners (unless you're strong). For a beginners group, try the Dunkeld Cycling Group (DCG) which meets in Craighall Park. Full details for both groups are at: http://www.cyclesafe.co.za/icg http://www.cyclesafe.co.za/dcg
  4. Superseeding index is dependent on being able to get results (timeously) from the timing companies. If the results are late, complain to them. They are not paid to do it, but provide it as a service. CGC and CSA are supposed to do this, but are too flipping useless. WPPA has their own seeding index (used for the Argus - still?), but this is skewed towards their members. So either we thank Cycle Lab for doing what they can or we have pretty much nothing. Hobson's choice anyone?
  5. I don't do indoor trainers, but my missues has been riding her carbon Bianchi for about three years indoors with no problems... She doesn't exactly stress the frame, though. It interferes with 24.
  6. I'll agree with you there. I bought mine new. Since then I've cut six brake cables and outers and six derailleur cables and outers. It can no longer cut straight through a cable. Instead it makes a messy cut and leaves two or three cable strands uncut and jammed between the blades. Tightening the bolt has not helped. What's a good alternative? I have a Pedros one which is awesome. Someone told me you can also get a decent cable cutter at Builders Warehouse for a fraction of the price...
  7. Mastercard or Visa. The 305 is cr@p. I was worried about wasting money on a 705 to get rid of my 305, but the 705 has been a fantastic unit. If you can avoid it, don't get a 305. Either go for another product or spend a little more and get a 705.
  8. Ever read the story on the wall at Nando's about the legend of the dead chicken? I reckon this is in the same league...
  9. I use a Selle Italia SLR (the 127/135?g one) on my road bike and the exact same one on my MTB. I'm used to it and it's a fantastic saddle (for me), so I don't see why I should use an MTB "specific" saddle. I have done many 100km+ rides, races, the Epic and Sabie Experience on it - and usually with less problems than guys with softer MTB saddles. It's as hard as a rock, but it means my butt slides over the saddle, rather than sticking to it causing problems. For multi day races, this is a massive help. It was hell to get used to at first, but now I don't feel it at all. Once your butt is used to a saddle, I don't reckon road or MTB makes any difference. The one provision I have is that I don't use the Carbonio version on the MTB (carbon rails) as this is not recommended by SI. I use the titanium rail version.
  10. See you tomorrow, so we can compare Garmins...
  11. Hmmm... maybe now he'll be able to find our morning rides on a more regular basis?
  12. Local Bike Shop...
  13. It is currently illegal for cyclists to ride within the yellow line. Your point 2 is interesting as it illustrates a popular misconception. The "solid white line" is not a "no-overtaking line". It is defined as a "barrier line". So you may overtake if safe to do so and as long as you do not cross over the barrier line. If you get bust it's not for "overtaking" but for "crossing a barrier" line.
  14. I had an Edge 305 and found that pressing the Lap and Mode then the power button worked. Mine was also one of the earlier ones where the battery connection was also dodgy. I got one replacement, but had to buy the next. As soon as the 705 came out I dumped the 305 and haven't looked back. The 305 is dodgy, the 705 a dream...
  15. I got my refund!!!! Thanks to the organisers and sorry you got dropped. The OUTride is a great event. I heard a rumour that TMPD ****ed up the road closure. Sounds like the most reasonable excuse to me. I can't imagine money could have been a problem with the backing of OUTsurance (I'm insured through them, so I should frikkin' well know...).
  16. Nice couch...
  17. Regard (Retard?), Instead of being such a chop, why don't you actually do something positive (or is it easier to just bitch & moan?)... Cycle Lab is well aware of these problems and is trying to sort out this type of behaviour. If you see something, contact THEM and let THEM know instead of ranting on about it and doing nothing. Contacts are: Jhb Club: club@cyclelab.com Pta Club: clubpta@cyclelab.com The problem is that there are too many people with bad attitudes on the road (both motorised and un-motorised) to expect perfect manners. A long, slow process of attitude adjustment is required...
  18. Take a deep breath: The price is for a single tyre... jmaccelari2009-05-27 06:29:46
  19. Check the battery and replace if necessary (or if you are unsure). I wet the contacts under the strap before putting it on. Good ol' spit... I have found the straps I have had very reliable...
