  2. Apparently Garmin changed the design of the battery connector about 18 months ago. The battery is the back portion of the case and it used to connect to the front part through a contact strip. With vibration the strip loses contact and the unit turns off. I believe the newer design now has the connector hard wired to prevent the problem occuring which is basically what is done in the DIY fix above.
  3. Change from Duracell to Eveready ???
  4. Cool, have a good and safe cycling weekend all of you and lets try behave ourselves on ALL the roads.
  5. Big H, please go build some roads in Angola or something, you are just stirring here for the sake of it. You know very well that the residents have some valid points. You make unfounded claims here about Garth but he hasn't threatened anyone. Yes it was stupid of Ken to threaten to ride over cyclists but that was a private email and the Hubbers who came on here and made threats and took other senseless action are no better, you have just lowered yourselves to the same level. I have sent CradleResident a pm and like chucky (Mark) I am prepared to meet with the residents and see if something can be sorted out. There has to be some kind of middle ground but it will require some manner of tolerance on the part of all concerned. I for one would certainly not be happy with a race going past my gates at least once every weekend and sometimes more than once, not to mention the numerous training rides that take place on the same roads and lets face it those rides often do abuse the rules of the road. Big H made the comment that the roads were built by the taxpayers and he is correct but that does not mean that any one group can monopolise the roads to the exclusion of another. Then of course there is the matter of litter which we all know is a big problem in road races, the people living in this area have to bear the direct consequences of this. I would suggest that unless you have anything constructive to add to this matter then rather refrain from making threats and childish remarks. This only inflames the situation. I am also going to contact chucky to see if I can assist him in any way in getting some sort of dialgoue going. IanJ2009-09-18 09:04:55
  6. I agree, it won't be the same race any more. I wonder who made the call that it was a security concern?
  7. Can we get a refund for the amino carb drink we used last night? .
  8. Ha Ha, I seem to remember you already doing that - in a MTB race .
  9. Yup it is on. Last week we just managed to get in 45min before it got dark.
  10. I race in Vets 40-49 and from what I have seen it is the guys from the bigger teams that are the worst culprits. Not going to mention names yet but both at Lost City and Dome to Dome I have seen several guys from a couple of the teams dropping wrappers during the race. Individual riders don't seem to be as bad. Personally I use the Whasp flask which works like a charm, no more sticky fingers or pockets. Just don't do what I did at Kremetart, I put some Energade Jelly babies in the same pocket as the flask, halfway during the stage I tried to pull the flask out of my pocket to find it was firmly attached to a long string of snotty molten jelly babies.

  12. Personally I think you should ride in the group you are seeded in, take it as a challenge to do the best you can under the circumstances and see how many groups you can move up during the race, you might find other stronger guys in the same situation as you that you can form a group with. Once the other races are updated in the seeding index you will not have any problems in the future and don't forget most races take your single best seeding result and not the average of your top three any more. I punctured on the start line at the Argus this year so even though I was supposed to ride Vets I ended starting with D group once I had sorted it out. I had great fun helping the D bunch guys do some pacing in the wind and we ended up beating most of C.
  13. Not always Scotty, they can only have a certain number in each start group, if there are more licenced riders that enter than can be accomodated in a group then they have the right to using seeding even in a licenced category. Argus is a good example, even though I normally enter and ride licenced vets it was only this year that my Argus seeding was good enough to put me in the category, previously I was in B or C. The opposite sometimes also applies, Sonic entered Open/Seeded for D2D but because there was space in Elites and he has a good enough seeding he was put into that category. They have confirmed that he can move down to Open at registration.
  14. Cycle Events, while you are here can you answer a question for me please. I entered my son for the D2D in the Open/Seeded category but his sms received yesterday has him riding Elite. Is that because he has a full racing licence and if so can he change to Open at registration?
  15. I think you guys are all getting old, this happened LAST Sunday
  16. We ride from the Total garage on Oxford road in Illovo (Thrupps centre), 5am start. Different routes each day but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday routes come past Emmerentia. Send me a pm if you want more info.
  17. Not by Spinnekop or me or most other club/team members. The only abuse I remember was aimed at those wrongly assuming that just because one member of a club did something stupid all members were doing the same.
  18. Not an attack Spinnekop but only if you had that view when he was bust. But Im glad you see it the right way now. I don't want to drag this one up again but I think if you check back through the records you will find that Spinnekop did make a statement at the time condemming what his (our) team mate did and mentioned that he wouldn't be welcome back. Serveral other team members also made similar statements and you may have noticed that the person concerned has not come back to the club or team since his ban expired.

I got an sms from Zoo Cookie yesterday afternoon, she has cuts on both hands and worst on shoulder. Her right hand is also swollen. Luckily nothing is broken.
