  1. Dont know hr personally... but seeing as I recognise many traits in him and I have been known to be an odd lunatic father..... possibly!
  2. hr... not in Kempton.. In the West ( Randpark Ridge area ). Its a feeder track to the bigger ones... Start hill is not as high, jumps are not not supercross and the track is 250 odd mtrs. Perfect for small lighties starting out on any kind of BMX. The odd lunatic father has been known to trundle around on a MTB
  3. Anytime... but there is a 'junior' BMX track near us that my son races at... They even have a class for old lunatics... Join us next Saturday.....
  4. I feel for the injured rider as spinal injuries are not something anyone 'deserves' That said.. So many of the replies in this thread have already said what I would have.. Suffice to say, the first time I saw it, I watched a few people do it, decided it wasnt for me and walked over the rocks.... Whats so hard about making your own decision? If it was on a flat piece of ground I would have tried it, but the rocks below put me of... Im now going to build a small one in the garden in the mini bmx track for the kids and me though
  5. Kenda Komodos at around R70/75 from Linden cycles are just for fine fat/slow blokes like me KDEE2008-08-15 12:38:08

  7. , not on your life..
  8. Cmon okes, I enjoy the banter and especially the one above about the Tazz with spinners.... but you are really stuffing up this possibly really good thread...
  9. Try Rand Nut And Bolt on Ontdekkers Road and/or a place in Randburg ( for the life of me, cant member the name...) will find out if you need.. One of the two should have, as long as you can tell them size
  10. You can buy anything from any retail seller in the world if they are willing to ship it... Very few manufacturers, if any, will sell direct as they have distributors in country.. Now, just to make you jealous, my father in law is chief pilot for a very serious SA businessman who has offices all over the world.. Drops the boss of in Cape Town and then parks the jet at Lanseria.... Customs dont like working in the evening at Lanseria Only realised that he had already left London on Sunday for Telaviv for two weeks and then back home... No decent cycle shops in Telaviv that I could find... But for sure next time, a really, really nice frame is coming back on that plane
  11. OX, I have a compressor at home, you are welcome to try it... but Im standing outside.....

    BB Servicing

Thanks for that JM.. bother in law donated the BB to me, warranty is seems has expired as he replaced with a Shimano Hollowtech.. He nows recalls that it was creaking.. Johan, thanks for taking the time answer.. Indeed the whole point of these questions is save what look like perfectly good parts. I am adept at replacing bearings on my motorbike, but cannot see how to remove the axle in order to 'drift' the bearing out from the inside... If I ask very nicely, where do i bring the beer.. Mechanics courses are of the budget list of this bike rebuild on a shoestring

    BB Servicing

  14. Guys, need some help here.. I have had a Tru Ativ BB and CrankSet donated towards my build a bike with pre loved parts project.. The BB is rough feeling and sounding when turned by hand. Had a look, but i cant see if the bearings can be changed... cant see a obvious way to remove them.. Please let me if its possible, alternatively is a new BB to fit Tru Ativ five ten cranks a pricy option.. BB is a Tru Ativ powerspline uploads/20080706_080657_powerspline_lar.zip
  15. Echo what PB says, was a great introductory ride for me... Facts... 1. 7.30am is too flippen early to start in winter... 2. I didnt vomit anywhere 3. When EB says its a slow pace, he means it only when you are coming back and he is tired.. 4. Thank goodness I am too old to worry about how I look when I give the see saws a miss... its all in the mind sure, but at least Im home watching the Grand Prix and not in the casualty unit... A win in my book.... 5. The hobos/homeless are still fast asleep/drugged up at that time of the morning 6. Lube your chain and take a chaintool with you, chain suck will make you want to cry, Slowpoke now knows this.. 7. Nameless editor of a cycling magazine thought it was hilarious that 2 hub members were having a smoke whilst waiting for a bike to be repaired and of course will take a photo.. 8. When riding next to a paved area, make sure your chain is still on the chainring when you attempt to cross onto the paving... 9. The majority of cyclists on the spruit are friendly and helpful. Nice 10. Mugg and Bean makes great coffee and sarmies after a ride. All in all, a great day out, thanks to all!
  16. My Cro Moly ( Steel ) 1992 Diamond Back had plenty grease in the seatpost and quil stem area when i bought from Johnson Cycles back in 19 voetsek.. I still have the bike and I swear there is still some of the original grease hanging around... So has wisdom changed since then? Have alu GT as well, but no carbon......
  17. Hells teeth, 15 degrees max predicted for tomm and Sunday... Gonna be cold next to that water!
  18. No idea, Im hoping EB is going to step in here as you could end reading the whole Sunday Times before we get there If I give a time..
  19. Slowpoke, Im up for that and thanks you for your kind offer... If I dont get legwarmers before then, I will use them.. At least will be two of us so we can form a majority as to the slow riding..... Hog, why dont you join us then on Sunday? Mampara, I will join your ride another Sunday then if you dont mind, once Im a little fitter... EB, can you pmdirections to your office for Sunday morn..? Thanks as well to all the offers from everyone, every day on this forum just shows me just how bloody decent most cyclists are... BTW, does it look completely tappit for a MTB rider to wear leg warmers with baggies........................................
  20. Arm warmers, leg warmers, ear muffs....???? I thought this was a MTB ride, are we not supposed to be tough Mampara, it sounds good, but this 7.30 thing next to the water is scaring me... I dont own arm/leg warmers and ear muffs!
  21. Jeez thanks guys, there are some generous guys out there! 7.30 am????? I dont even have a winter jacket to ride in! Dont you guys have kids that you can get up so early in the morning, ( mine keep me up till late on weekend nights ). Phatties are us and the Cresta Wheelers sounds good, although I must admit that Im keen to ride in a smaller group at first... ( less people to shout at me when I stop halfway up the hill to vomit ) Slowpoke, I will follow where you decide..... at least there will be two of us that can say ' I told you I was slow and unfit, so now you bladdy well wait' Aish but Rivonia and N1... I will have to leave home at 6.30am... bloody hell...
  22. Im not that bad, just making sure that everyone understands that Im no race snake.... Also hoping to meet a few more people in the area that ride/enjoy MTB the way I do... Its not life and death and the enjoyment of actually doing it more important than how fast we do it..
  23. Righto chaps, I need someone to take pity on this seriously unfit hubber and take me for a ride around Emmerantia/Spruit this Sunday morning.. My riding partner cant make it and Im not keen to go on my own as I can like just to get donners lost somewhere.. If you by some miracle agree to this, please note.. It takes me 20 minutes before I stop complaining about how cold it is in the morning... I puke on the uphills in the first 20 minutes because I drink too much coffee.. Im okay on the flats, technicals and downhills, but my legs turn to jello when they see a hill in the distance... I have to stop for a smoke after a 1/2 hour.. Did I mention that Im really unfit and slow on the uphills.. So after all this, if you still have charity in your heart, take pity on this 'old' noob who is hanging to ride the spruit/part of before I retire my 17yr old Diamond Back to a occasional tar burner.... and start the rebuild on my new bike.. In return you will recieve muffins/bagel/your choice inserted here and coffee at a Mug And Bean or wherever is the most convenient place to have a half time 'Im dying and need a rest/smoke' episode and of course lots of talking ***, kicking tyres and stuff that guys do all the time when we have known one another for more than 5 minutes.. and of course my eternal gratitude for your patience and time
  24. Ok so all said and done, are all the bearings ( balls ) in the shimano MTB pedals the same? I have 3 pairs I need to service....... Pedals.. not balls
