  1. well one thing is sure, I won't be trying it on my roller anytime soon!
  2. as a posible solution to your problem, try 2 beers between each, I bet it will work
  3. very similar to Body for Life. I've trained lots of people on BFL and all of them got great results. IMHO, you really dont need all the supplements that is listed in the USN program. Your results will only be marginally better on the supps, so it does not justify the cost. With regards to cycling, cycling can be used as a cardio workout in the program, however the duration limit on the program does not lend itself to adequate cycling training
  4. this post should lure the trolls!Sorry can't comment on the bikes that you mentioned, I have not been on either.
  5. these ss'ers are damn strong! after our hub ride yesterday I think I should go add a comment on the Burry-Olympics thread - "nevermind a 29er, Burry whould have have won if he rode a ss!" Mike, Iron and Eldron, you guys kicked ass without trying too...
  6. There are places where you either ride down or you dont go down at all , walking would result in a face plant of note. I haven't been there since early this year so it might have changes somewhat so the loose rocks might be somewhat off the trails by now... Karma, This is not a place where you want to take your non snakeskin Ralph, but your 120mm travel will feel right at home once you've swopped your rear tyre to something with stronger sidewalls
  7. Erm, guys I am not to sure Kings Kloof is the best place for a general Hub ride. I have only done the most difficult route (think it was the black one) but I can tell you that it is propper technical at places. Yes, they have propper climbs (good luck to the SSers to select a gear for the ride ) but most of the climbs are technical. Lots and lots of loose rocks which make this a venue that I don't reccomend to beginners. Now, I am not saying anyone is a beginner , I am just saying that I've assisted guys there that broke arms etc and it would not be cool if somethig like this happens to any of us on a Hub ride. I seem to recall that the non black routs are fairly short (even the Black route is only 22km) That being said, I will join the ride if we do go to Kings Kloof (perhaps it is a good place to go test that Hub home made energy drink ) I've attached one of the Kings Kloof rides that I did earlier this year so that you can see the profile.
  8. Thx for organising the ride Joe!
  9. You guys missed out on a good ride!
  10. now that is something that I can do! (Not the couch bit...) :-P
  11. I'll be there tomorrow if all goes to plan. My bike is not really brag worthy like all the SS bikes that should show up tomorrow but you can look out for a Trek GF and I'll be in club100 kit
  12. sorry it's not a pic; and it is a very old one but here goes: A pastor walks past a little boy sitting on the edge of a sidewalk with his willie haning in the puddle of water just next to the sidewalk. Finding this very strange, the pastor asks the little boy “seun, as ek mag vra, wat doen jy?” The little boy innocently replied “oom, ek vang dose” Knowing that it would be easier to convince the little boy to stop if they were on equal grounds, the pastor unzipped and proceeded to follow the little boy’s example. A minute or 2 went by with the two sitting side by side, willies dangling in the water. Finally, the pastor decided it is time to start the discussion. The pastor asked” seun, as ek mag vra, hoeveel dose het jy al gevang?” To which the little boy replied “jy is die derde een vandag oom”
  13. Now I have a great reason to take a beer with me on my next ride; for makeshift bike stand(empty bottle by that time ) so that I can take a photo of my bike on the track
  14. the real question is, can we have 1 (or 2 or 3) as well?
  15. Just avoid those cape based merchants…
  16. always had good service from Buycycle
  17. i did a VO2 max (and HR MAX) test a couple of weeks ago. And yes, I was fakt for a couple of days after that.
  18. that is why you shouldn'y train when you are sick. it puts too much strain on your heart.
  19. Have a look at the scatter graph if your HR software has this functionality. This will show you if you actually got to 218 or if it is an Irregularity
  20. As I’ve said, we all know there is a difference between 26ers, 27.5 and 29ers. In fact, I recon 99.9% of our hubbers would agree that there is a difference, we just don’t see eye to eye with regards to which wheel size holds the most benefits. Ok, so we agree there is a difference, right? If there is a difference, it means there will be a difference in the end results in a race. Sure, maybe the heaviest bike won (and I buy your argument that the rider was therefore the strongest/best on the day), but ask yourself, what would have happened if the winner was on a different bike? If he was on a lighter bike, would the gap between 1st and 2nd have been greater? Smaller wheel sizes are lighter (for the same technology) seeing that less materials is used. So if Mr 2nd rode with 26” wheels he would have won since the gap between 1st and 2nd was so small? No, weight plays a role, but different wheel sizes performs different dependent on the terrain in question. What sells best? Our 27.5” came second so therefore you need to convert now; or Our bike came first so our brand is the best. If it was a marketing ploy, all the riders would have been on 27.5 because we all know that this is the new hype in the market. I agree that marketing is there for a reason and that marketing sometimes focus on creating a need that does not exist. That being said, I think these guys rode the bikes that they thought would give them the best shot at winning (at the time, as bike/wheel choices change as technology becomes better). Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying 29er is the best. I am saying that each wheel size is the best for a given terrain and track. I am also saying that I think sponsors would rather win by sponsoring whatever they/the rider thinks is best, than lose just to show of the latest gadget…
  21. Make sure you train overthe middle of the day so that you get used to the heat. It gets VERY hot in that area. At last year's H2H we recorded over 40 degrees! Also, do a lot of hill repeats! Regarding your bike, make sure you have good stopping power, you'll need it going down some of those hills. That being said, H2H is AWESOME!!! Just make sure you pace yourself. People bomb the first 30km (which is mostly downhill) and then fail to complete the race.
  22. en sy hoender is ook nie te klein nie
  23. I am beginning to think this is not totally true. Think about it, every sponsor want his rider(s) to win for obvious reasons. These days there seems to be very small gaps between 1st, 2nd 3rd,... (just look at the Olympics XC race for an example). Therefore sponsors really have no choice with regards to which bikes they sponsor, they sponsor what they think is best for the race. Let’s face it, there is a noticeable difference between 26er, 27.5 and 29ers. This difference can easily result in a 1st place becoming a 3rd place or even worse if the right weapon is not selected for the specific race (terrain dependent). If sponsors sponsored 29ers only because it ties in with their marketing plan (to increase sales), then we would have seen more 29ers at DH races. 29ers are not as good as 26ers when it comes to DH and therefore sponsors will not insist that their rides ride with it… Sure, give Burry any size wheels and he’ll kick my @ss all the way to next week Thursday. But, he might just drop a position or 2 in a race if he is forced to ride a wheel size that everyone know is second best for the terrain of said race.
