  1. Hi, we (CALCULUS BIKES) have been in discussion with them to supply us with their sets for some of our top end builds.  We did lots of research on different options and they are very well ranked.

Previous comments is correct in that they dont have a local distributor as they feel they can manage/control service better themselves.

Their direct to consumer model is also well oiled with their shipping and support internationally.

As for actual riding experience we have very good reports from some UK clients running them for their winter bikes.  Our first set (Hunt 30 Carbon Aero Disk) is currently in Jhb customs going to be used on a "aero" frame, so will be able to give some more feedback on riding in the next couple of weeks.

    Looking forward!!

Please let me know what they cost you. They will give 21% trade discount

  2. I have a Hunt set on my winter bike. It’s the ally set for fatties set. I bought it as I am a lardy and cos the roads round here are potholed at times, it’s my training bike mostly although have done IM and sportives on it.

Wheelset is superb, can not fault them. When compared to the equivalent priced Magic’s etc the Hunts are vastly better at any price point. Offer a guarantee but not been needed. Great wheels and I would buy again.

As I understand it Hunt buy components and put them all together, essentially building parts, I do not think they actually manufacture anything but this could of changed.

Great wheels, fast, robust and never gone out of true and I have around 5000 kms on them in 2 years of ownership.

    Did you import yourself?

  3. I've also found myself admiring the products on their website on occasion.

This is the only question I can answer. They are strictly direct online purchases, so no SA agent. And they have no plans to build a distributor network.

There was a user in the classifieds at one stage claiming to be the local agent but when we contacted Hunt Wheels they explained the above.

That user still claims to be the SA agent.

  4. Hi

Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with Hunt wheelsets?

Or has anyone dealt with "lovetoclimb" who is apparantly the agent for them in SA?

I'm specifically looking for the 50mm Disc version

Overseas they are rated as 1 of the best wheelsets

    Cheers

  5. Had a lekker ride in BL, except for the crash that resulted in a bent derailleur hanger bracket - I guess that’s what a hanger bracket is for... to tale the fall for other components. Luckily it happened at the start of the Walkerville hill, so I had time to get back to the group without burning too many matches - and luckily no other damage (bike and body). Only had 8/10 gears before the derailleur hit the spokes - but being a flat race, I didn’t need the 21 and 23 sprockets.

Hope the rider I rode over, before falling, is okay. Looked like a touch of wheels (half wheeling) that caused the crash.

Our red train plan worked to perfection, with an attack at the left turn after aerials. 1st and 3rd place, plus a few in the chasing bunch. I see AL had a similar time and attack at the same place. Hopefully all our members will be seeded AL soon, and we can all race in AL.

I attacked at the right turn just before the 10Km to go point and got a good gap, but turning left into the head wind to the finish was like hitting the wall (bonk). Sat up with about 2Km to go, knowing they would catch me before the 1km, and hoping I had something left for the sprint for 5th. It didn’t work out and had to be content with last place in the bunch.

I were with you guys in BL, in the URcycling kit, thanks for the effort, lekker race

  6. Interesting race. Started in CL and did the first hour at an average of 45km/h catching the front of BL in the process. My legs decided it was nap time going into Suikerbos but I see CL finished 3 min ahead of BL in the results so the front groups must have ridden together from there.

Considering the quality of roads compared to the fast one I was surprised with the number of accidents having ridden past or next to at least 4-5. One bad one with two gents not getting up just after the half way timing mat and one pointless one after the finish line because someone stopped in the middle of the road 50m after the line.

I was in front of BL, we missed the front turn off and the whole bunch had to turn around, from there no one wanted to work except 1 or 2 guys. When C caught us it was 1 huge mess up. I decided to sit in front and keep myself out of trouble. People crashed left right and center. I managed to finish in front with the guys. Lekker race overall
