  1. The heading is a bit deceiving. A family member joined the Navy a couple of years ago. During the first couple of months of basics she lost almost 30cm around her waist but only 3kg, because she gained more mucle. People should rather make fat loss their goal and not weight loss. The bathroom scale is not the killer.
  2. I think the mtb'ers are envious because they can't ride like that on a single track or because there is nobody in a car behind them to take a photo of them when doing their thing I'll be running in 3 . . .2 . . . 1
  3. I knew it was too good to be true. I challenge you to a duel for last place on my local single track! You should just give me enough time to organise a mtb, because if I have to run you might beat me to last place. I should be ready August 2013. EDIT: typo
  4. . I'm about 180km north of PE. Was there over the weekend. You are not heading in this direction after your week in PE?
  5. Seems legit. Where can I sign up?
  6. Of which starting group? I'll be a rustler. Just ignore my post, it was made before I had coffee.
  7. Finally a picture. Now this thread is not entirely useless anymore.
  8. I have not watched the video, but agree with the OP. Fortunately there are no traffic lights where I stay, but on Friday afternoon an idiot turned into the road in front of me while I was going at 50+km/h on the downhill into town. He saw me when I was not more than 20m away from him. He stopped with the rear wheels on the oncoming side of the road. One second can make a big difference.
  9. Nice, you will keep the traffic cops at Beaufort West so busy they won't bother stopping the other cars with bike carriers.
  10. Is it a nut dropping at 0:14?
  11. Haha, you'll be amazed to see how many stop next to the road or stand in the rows at T2 to get to the loo. @Blinkfan, I am very happy with the 2XU tri pants. If it is your first time, make sure you get endurance tri pants and not the short distance tri pants.
  12. I am by no means a seasoned Ironman but a big no no of the fullrace suit is if you have to make a pit/ss stop next to the road.
  13. And another R100 at registration
  14. I have done it. I don't necessarily have the best technique, but as I said earlier, try to do as much of your swim training in the sea if possible.
  15. This year Wave 2 was Age Group Men 18 - 39 with a traffic jam at the first buoy.
  16. Haha, when I ran through the tent after I transitioned there were actually a number of seats open again.
  17. Agree 100%. Even the fittest will have a long day if they bonk.
  18. Well done for giving the kankerstokkies the boot. Unless you are a super triathlete, the biggest mistake is to cycle as if you stole the bike. I have passed so many on the run who flew (read drafted) pass me on the bike. It's not much use if you can cycle 2hr30 but have nothing left in the legs to run. The time you lose walking outweighs the time saved by chasing the pros on the bike. I set myself a realistic goal of 6hrs30. When I got off the bike I realised that if I could run a 1hr45 half marathon I could go sub 6hours and went hard on the first lap, but Bunkers Hill is energy sapping.
  19. I transitioned under the Zimbabwean flag.
  20. . Again just my 2c worth, also with wetsuits the water is not That cold. Without my wetsuit I'll be running on the bottom of the ocean and I want to save my legs for Bunkers Hill
  21. I only started swimming September last year. After only two lenghts in the pool I was exhausted. I am a terrible sinker and the wetsuit was my best investment. If you can, go to PE during December and swim in the sea to get familiar with the real thing and to build confidence.
  22. It can get expensive, especially if you still have to buy all the equipment and stuff. My wife did it as well this year and we spent about 10K, but that includes a wetsuit. Was it worth it? Definitely. My wife will be 8 months preggies, cheering me on next year
  23. The drafting this year was ridiculous. The officials passed me only three times on the bike course, but drafting groups of 10 to 20 passed in numbers. I think they will show the cards much more next year as there were many complaints about this.
  24. Who of you hubbers have entered or are still pondering about it, what are your goals, will it be your first 70.3 event and how is the training going? I have entered, but a year ago I was in much better shape than now. My official training program starts on the 1st of October 2012. This year I finished just under 6h8m, so my goal is to go under 6 hours next year. Any tips on training, nutrition etc are also welcome. Good luck and enjoy!
