  1. I have recently immigrated to the Cape from Joburg.  Staying in Durbanville and see some cyclists riding along the green belt that runs through the area (R302, Lubbe Street, M15 I think).  The locals probably have a name for it but only been here a few days so not sure.

I would like to ride it in the afternoons after work.  Is it safe to ride alone?  Any group rides that happen?

    Thanks!

  2. Out at Howick / Karkloof the other day exploring the trails. It was real hot.  Came across a trail with a name board 'Puff adder trail'.  Looked cool so headed off over the rocks. Few meters down the trail my imagination got the better of me.  Thinking there must have been a reason what they called it that.  Turned around and headed back but every piece of bark, stick or log thereafter looked dodge.

  3. @FreedomRider_MHD, everything seems to be going swimmingly on my route out of Sandton into Randburg along William Nicol and Republic.  Just want to note that, the 'public transport' making use of the demarcated lanes travel at a horrendous speed.   The speed limit on Republic is 60 yet a Putco bus followed by a long line of taxi's come flying past me a significant pace.  Quite scary as all that is between us are some flimsy cones.

  4. Well you wont have to wonder where to stay !

Impangele BnB is also on board. Their rates are R450 per person sharing per night, including breakfast.

Impangele BnB have hosted a number of MTB riders in the past as well as the MTN Quebeka SA team in January 2014 for their 2 week training camp prior to SA Champs.

They are bike friendly and have bike lock up, bike wash and parking facilities!

    Visit www.impangelebnb.com for more info.

And they have outside showers.  Stayed there plenty (just last weekend).  Great spot.

  5. Did the 40 yesterday and loved every minute of it.  I am no race snake but the experience of riding in the mist, the cold and wet and making it to the finish was proper tough but totally rewarding.  Big thanks for the marshals and officials braving out there in the cold.  And to all out there on the course, fellowship in adversity was amazing.  One I will remember for some time to come.

  6. Loved the race, great event and all that good stuff.  Did the 40.  I am no podium finisher but worked hard to finish within my personal best only to get stuck at the finish.  Could not even get to the timing thingy for people stopping to take selfies and chat.  Lost a few minutes in the huge crowd with all the disciplines coming in at the same time.  Perhaps they can encourage people to clear the finish area.

  7. I'm a lady, 1.64m tall and ride a small Scott Contessa Spark 700 RC 27.5.  Took some getting used to from the 26 as I found the ride higher (like why is the ground so far away) than before (26" extra small).

Finding my balance was a challenge initially but pleased to say we have become one.  I do however like the technical stuff and think that a 29er would give me more pace on the district road sections but definitely more agile than my mates on their big wheels in tight turns.

  8. PS to all

The by-law for all joberg park state NO vehicle can go faster than 5km/h. So there you have it

"drive, draw or propel a vehicle in excess of five kilometres per hour" which speaks to this general prohibition

"may not act in a manner which is dangerous to life or property"

Ever seen the speed that those security vehicles go at that go and collect the guards at knock-off time.
