  1. If you got plenty money, buy them all. The taller you are, the more suited you will be to a 29er.Geometry and frame setup plays a big part in you being comfortable or not. Best to test different brands to see what suits you.Remember a hardtail 29 or not,is still a hardtail, but it is much more responsive. The more established brands(Cannondale/Specialized) tend to be a bit more clued up on design, therefore increase comfort. At the end you pay for what get,so enjoy the bike hunting - lots of choice!
  2. Seeing the picture of that mamba....Now am I suppose to sleep tonight? Very irresponsible
  3. Thanks for all the info. Appreciated
  4. Can someone please tell me if any bike shops in the Table View/Cape Town area are open tomorrow, as all the websites can't give you any info, and no voice message or answering service-making the trek to the big city tomorrow, and need some urgent tubeless repairs done. Anyone you guys can recommend,as long as they are not complete muppets! Thanks
  5. Drinking chilean wine is like buying chinese.Stay clear, it could be another melamine scare! I like the label though, but the wine is only good for cleaning bike parts.
  6. How about brushing then? ah found one...Flash carbon 29er!
  7. Serious?Who needs advice on a R 50k budget? Very simple. Buy a R5k entry level bike, donate the balance of the money to someone like...me, and I will scrape the bottom of the barrel to see what is out there.
  8. All depends on budget.Hearing good things about Momsen's 29er's though, but 2nd hand market is where you will find best value for money. Good hunting,,,
  9. Sad comments indeed.Lots of roads in the country side do not have emergency lanes or yellow lines for that matter.I had to take evasive action on more than one occasion because of motorists that has forced me of the road.I usually just hang on to a small strip of tar,but for most motorists that is overstepping the boundaries. It comes down to basic mutual respect, but it seems we live in a society where it is seriously lacking.
  10. Ralph Evo's front, and Conti Mountain King Back, Works well, but will definetely use Conti's throughout on next change, picked up a fair amount of sidewall damage on Ralph's. But the real question is, Why are tyres so expensive in general? R 600? Nearly the same as my bakkie.
  11. GENIUS! Right up there with the electric toaster
  12. Go to www.darlingbrew.co.za. They just opened a tasting room here as well. They do supply quite a few liquor stores in cape town, but the beer doesn't quite fit in your bottle cage though.
  13. It is want you want it to be,but remember chess and knitting is also recreation!
  14. Have to agree, and the american formula is changing, not by choice I have to say, but makes for a very interesting next couple of years....
  15. I have no issue about being competitive and race and all the chest pumping that goes with it, But how do grow the sport and make it accessible for more people across the economic spectrum with the exceeding costs involved? So no need to get your knickers in a twist,I also enjoy racing, have a decent bike, but the underlying issues will not go away, unless it is being addressed. Ja, whatever...
  16. Some hubbers have completely lost track of the topic, but it is clear to see that are some deep seeded social issues at play. We live in a very competitive/materialistic society, heavily based on the american model, which explains why so many shopping malls, and BMW drivers are popping up all over the place. It is sad to see so many mountain bikers that are more concerned about what they ride, than how ride. The last race I attended, I noticed the amount of status some riders attached to their equipment, and leaves me concerned for the future of the sport, with the average joe being forced out, due the increasing cost involved.Last thing I want to see is a Little rich boy club. On the topic of 29ers, its huge in America, and even George W. Bush rides one. Says it all I think.
  17. Maybe he considered you not worthy of a Cannondale, and didn't want to hurt your feelings....
  18. I come across snakes quite often here where I live, but Cape Cobras will very seldom bite or attack, and has only given me the "heads up",but puffies are of great concern as they don't move and give you very little warning.Best thing to do (if you no choice but to go over or close to it) get your legs up to your handlebar,as they can strike from any angle.Worked for me once, but was heavily shaken afterwards.
  19. What a storm in a tea cup!A polite phone call to the concerned farmer, prior to the ride, as well as a polite and engaging approach by the rider, could possibly have led to a healthier outcome for all parties, but no someone had to be a twat.
  20. Great to see freedom of speech at work.... and that is the only positive I can take out the post.
  21. Shame, he was just saying it out loud what we all were thinking the first time on proper single track. Hang in there mate,it only gets worse!
  22. Man, try getting a sport massage with hairy legs. Good LUCK! ` Hairy legs or not, does it have a happy ending?
  23. A bit "metrosexual" or "ladyboy" if you ask me.And it is not "ok" to cry in a romantic drama either, and if your girlfriend likes it, re-evaluate your relationship!
