  1. Durban folk please complete this as it will no doubt encourage further infrastructure and provide information on the needs of cyclists. "In the last two years, eThekwini has built new bicycle lanes and sidewalks, and put up new road signs, road crossings and road markings about cycling. Your participation in this survey will help us monitor this new bicycle infrastructure and find out whether or not it meets the needs of people who ride bicycles in Durban." https://rideyourcity...ort-nmt-survey/
  2. Never a truer word said.
  3. First, let me just clarify that I'm not an expert but there are others on here who I'm sure they can add more. I bought myself a Silverback and have been very happy. It was not the Alpine but my decision was based on being able to get far better specs for a cheaper price than other makes. In checking two of those listed, the Silverback and the Scott Aspect 10, they show the same specs for the shock, front and rear derailleur but the Silverback is R1000 cheaper. Wheels, cranks and some others differ so perhaps the others will be able to point out if any of these make the Scott worth R1000 more. Those are just my initial thoughts but bear in mind my amateur status And welcome to cycling, you'll love it, I did/do.
  4. Yeah, I did also worry about there being no physical barrier. There is still a lot of work going on so perhaps they will eventually do something. Even if it is a pavement.
  5. Hell yeah! I am yet to cycle up there as I am just not willing to risk the traffic. End up going the long way around to get up to Hillcrest.
  6. I cycled down to the beachfront today and have noticed the work happening around Blue Lagoon for a while but was rather stoked to see the sight in the image below. A cycle lane towards Blue Lagoon almost twice the width of the car lanes! I came home and did a little more research and was stoked to find this on skyscrapercity discussing the developments, which I thought I'd share, although some of you may be familiar with it already: Carlos Esteves, the deputy head of road systems management at the city, said the completion of the promenade along the beachfront to Blue Lagoon over the M4 bridge to the Bird Park was being partly funded by a German bank, which was investing money in the city ahead of COP17. "Their proviso was that the money be spent on a cycling strategy. We've always wanted to extend the accessibility by bicycle to the city and beachfront and all the way from Umbilo to the Umgeni River. "Ultimately we want a cycle lane through the Botanical Gardens to Glenwood Park. We already have nine walking routes and now this is the overlay for the cycling component. It's really finishing off what we started before the 2010 Fifa World Cup," he said. Esteves said 10 electric bicycles were on the cards to provide more mobility for metro police patrolling along the beachfront. "At the moment they patrol in cars and it's not ideal. We gave them some electric bicycles to try out and the response was overwhelming." The cycle route will also give the public better access to the protected mangroves and green hub which the city built at Blue Lagoon. Christo Swart, from the city's parks and cemeteries department, said the widening of the bridge and the cycle route was a win for the whole city. "The whole development, including the eco hub at Blue Lagoon and the Riverside Road extension, will add value, not only to the people of this city. It will benefit the whole environment," he said. Esteves said the R7 million contract to extend the cycle track to the Bird Park along Riverside Road had just been advertised and would be awarded shortly. 7. Are the 540s worth the extra expense when compared to the 520s? What is the benefit? EDIT: Buycycle shows R499 vs R289 as the price difference.
  8. The hot drooler downstairs?!
  9. Darn that condescending tone again!
  10. More importantly, can you dance without them? As for hems I think you'll need to ask the ladies. There was a near topless one hanging out in the "forum chit chat thread" but not sure she has ever worn enough clothes to be able to answer.
  11. ...and in red so you go faster (apparently)http://cyclingshoesonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/specializedsworks_shoe.jpg
  12. Intentional. It has happened more than once I prefer the outcome when I write my name in block letters in a rush. CLINT often looks totally different to how it is intended. By the way, I cannot believe all these questions about gloves and grips and what not today! Insane I am eagerly reading up on the gloves issue as I too am on the lookout for a pair. Been eyeing the Fox Dirtpaws but would like some more padding. Might keep an eye on this thread too and double up.
  13. It could be tough finding first hand experience from others in SAfor online ski equipment retailers. Always difficult buying "blind" online without some feedback of the experiences of others. Good luck with your search.
  14. One would assume you must be going in a skiing trip, if so, and unless it is to Lesotho, surely it'd be best to buy the equipment at your destination. First, it'll save on delivery charges and second, it'll save having to pay oversize or excess baggage on your flight.
  15. Um, willy warmers. Obviously! They do indeed. I almost added one to the order but I thought let me first see if the first order comes through. (PS Fully aware of your intentions )
  16. Hey, I was also young many many years ago but that still doesn't stop me looking at her...
  17. I'm very impressed with the service I have received from Evan's cycles. I know many will moan about not using local, and I may well still be hit with duties and the like, but their service has been exceptional thus far. Longish story but I feel like telling it. I ordered a Camelbak Charge at a price that was so much cheaper than local that even if I did get charged 30% duties and 14% VAT I'd still be saving a couple of hundred! Anyway, online they state that delivery is free to SA for orders over £10 but when placing the order it added £7.99 for delivery, even though my order was well over this. It did not bother me too much as it would still be a bargain so I placed the order, paid via Paypal, and I received the order confirmation almost immediately. I then queried this delivery charge via email. Over the course of the weekend a few emails went back and forth and each time I received a response within a couple of hours, even yesterday (Sunday). The first email apologised for the delivery charge, pointed out that it was an error on the website and that it should say orders over £100 free delivery but they will refund me and get this fixed. The refund meant providing my credit card details over email which I was not happy with so I asked if they could credit my account, which ended up not being possible with their system, so I then suggested throwing in a pair of Assos socks valued at just over the delivery charge. They agreed to do this and I got confirmation today that my Camelbak and socks have been despatched. What impressed me was the speedy response times and willingness to oblige. I obviously now have to wait to see how the delivery goes but so far I have been very impressed. Just thought I'd share.
  18. I was going to comment about that but felt it best not to as I thought it might be CW's daughter....
  19. Ha ha, thanks. Truth be known I battled to come up with fancy cars to put in the garage. Toyota Tazz, Hyundai i10 and Ford Ka just weren't working...
  20. That's better! He has just realised that the cost of a small new car is nothing when compared to the Landrover Discovery. Audi A8 and Mercedes in his garage at home But Chris still doesn't look like he wants to let go!
  21. What are you on about? I commented on the fact, like many others, that the new owner was not smiling as a result of just realising what he has spent. You apparent dislike of me (which you are welcome to feel by the way) meant that you felt the need to become personally insulting and now you ask me why I'm so sensitive. Bizarre. And it has nothing to do with sensitivity. If you would like to have a dig at someone and try and be insulting then don't go running and hiding when they confront you. And I don't think I took what you said any way. I read it as it was said. He doesn't look so happy in the photos so why should I be happy. I don't give a damn if he has a shiny new bike, I felt like responding to some comments about how unhappy everyone looks in the photo. And I did. Perhaps you need to lighten up a little or just swoon over the bike and ignore those of us commenting on sideline topics.
  22. You are welcome to. As far as I am aware it is not against forum rules for you to start a thread about that. You could also start a thread in which you insult anyone who has a bike that costs less than yours. Seems you'd have fun with that. Sorry, but I can't resist. So you are insinuating that just because someone only spends R5k on a bike they cannot possibly enjoy riding as much as someone on a R80k bike? What a load of rubbish.
  23. Ha ha ha ha, now that is the most ironic thing I have read on here! I have a chip on my shoulder ha ha ha. Your ignoring of everyone else's comments relating to the price of this bike and picking on mine clearly shows where the log on the shoulder really is... Dude, leave your baggage in the thread it belongs in.
  24. True! The most unhappy seems to be the one who has just handed over enough money that he could have purchased a small car with
  25. Who ever doubted that South African blood!
