  1. Strongly in the Oscar corner myself. After all the Olympics are meant to be about human achievement and spirit and nothing epitomises this more than a disabled athlete able to compete against his able bodied kin. Not all cyclists have the same bikes. Not all runners have the same shoes. Technology will always result in the improvement of times and speeds even amongst the able bodied. Each case must be looked at in isolation and ruled upon. It was ruled that Oscar could take part. So all the naysayers should just STFU.
  2. I was hoping that would be the reason for sharing them. I eagerly await references to their performances... are the men not performing at the Olympics?
  3. Here's a picture worth getting excited about: As an aside, some very average girls being put forward as lookers here...
  4. Geez, I'm good but not that good! Create an alter ego and then manage 117 posts in double quick time. My helmet is still in perfect working order.... And as a side note, and let's not derail, but I was right. Android phones are ok but they are not "all that" as they are made out to be. Not bored yet but the thrill has long gone... OP, keep your eyes on the ASG auctions on here. I picked up the excellent Rudy Project Sterling for R1k (including delivery and a cool free t-shirt). Retail is around R1.5k
  5. You mean the one in Waterfall? http://www.conceptcyclerykzn.co.za/
  6. Glad to hear I am not the only one. Although I scrub the tyres too...
  7. So sometimes you bend?!
  8. RvanZ, the landlord is obviously very chilled if they did not mind bolts being drilled into their concrete beam! My concern with the majority of these options is they suspend the bikes from the top tube. As mentioned by someone, great for a single speed with no gears/brakes but I am not a fan of this with all my cables running under there.
  9. Apparently Chain Reaction has a special on climbing legs at the moment. Worth checking out... delivery is also cheaper than local
  10. Come on Durban! A fair few new riders showing an interest but let's make it a big one. I see the Pretoria CM are already talking numbers in excess of 50 for their first ride, and that is riding in Pretoria! Surely we can do more than that along our stunning beachfront on a mild Durban winter's evening? And the weather is indeed looking fair so no excuses
  11. A big pet hate of mine! We have a church near our house where they seem to think the walkway is their private parking lot. I'm sure they'd be the first to complain if we left our bikes lying on the road! They'd pay (I reckon). These are the types of exclusions a policy would contain: Tough to prove it was a deliberate death. And cycling is not usually regarded as a hazardous pursuit but still always best to disclose it.
  12. So I just got my post office slip for the Camelbak Charge LR. Cost me just over R500 from Evans Cycles (including delivery). The slip states an amount due of R94.26. As much as I would love to support local businesses, I am almost certain I could not have found this hydration pack in SA for under R600.... delivered too.
  13. Hey RvanZ, Critical Mass is the name behind the international movement in which cyclists "take the streets". In some parts it may be seen as being confrontational but for most of us here in SA (if I may speak for most) it is more about just getting out there on your bike and riding and enjoying our city and the company of others. It is definitely a social event. ANY bicycle is welcome. I was going to say as long as it has two wheels but that is not even accurate as tricycles and unicycles are more than welcome too. So yeah, come on any non-motorised cycle you desire. We have had some single speed bikes, some road bikes, some cruiser bikes, some mountain bikes, some BMXs... you get the idea I roll a MTB too. As for kit, whatever you are comfortable in. Some wear their lycra/cycling kit, others wear baggies and T-shirt, some come in jeans and jackets. Whatever blows your hair back. I'm not aware of anyone that has joined thus far that has judged anyone else. You don't sound like you are anyway, but don't be out off by the distance. It is a chilled ride and being around Durban it is flat, flat, so the 25km are a breeze to complete. Look forward to seeing you on Friday!
  14. Realised as much The first few shows are free, then I start charging...
  15. On this forum I'd end up getting way too many PMs containing sordid offers if I did....
  16. ....and....... HERE I AM!
  17. I have been logging into this forum via Twitter since the start. I am now wanting to use some applications on the new phone to log in (Tapatalk in particular) which do not seem to allow twitter sign ins, so I need to register. I have tried registering for the forum using the same user name but obviously it tells me the username Clint_ZA is taken. The question is whether there is any way to create a direct log in using the same username? And whether this would still be able to link me to my existing profile at all? The "simple" solution would obviously be to create a new username and log in using that but it is not the ideal solution as I still want to be me.
  18. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the rest of us. Making sure the bag is the latest model is indeed important. I spotted a local special the other day, online research showed it to be a 2010 Camelbak.
  19. This calls for a thread... "which bar ends are best!"
  20. Thanks. At the suggestion of many on here that is precisely what I'll be doing. I got myself a camelbak and will fill it with all the essentials tools (shifting spanner, hammer, screw drivers etc), spare tubes, puncture kits.... and because I couldn't decide I'll also be getting the saddle bag. So no doubt I'll come close to the 2kg requirement... Those rugby socks that it was suggested I ride in will also add some weight. Soon I'll be whipping Birry Stainder's ass, no doubt about it!
  21. No matter how badly you beg, there is no way I am grabbing your bait in the jacuzzi either!
  22. Oh come now, surely by now you have realised there is absolutely nothing average about me!
  23. < swims right on past the bait >
  24. Hence me feeling I had a chance Oh dear... seems I might be busy with challenges for a while yet
