  1. Where are you based?
  2. Did a couple of these for a Corporate Branding company last year with that technique. Burnt pine, came out rather pretty in the end.
  3. Hi Crankywoodworker! Dave, whee are you based? I'd love to come check out those canoes, it's on my "I'd love to do that" list.
  4. Nope. I use a single pin one, and mark from both sides.
  5. Bench carved for an American named Alex - he gave me a pic of a giraffe he hunted, and I carved it's pattern into Kiaat. Quite a challenging project that took much longer than anticipated.
  6. ' The paint is still wet on the left there, hence the 'spot' I only did the top parts, not the stuff below the counter.
  7. Thanks! The tops are Rhodesian Teak, 50mm thick, counter space total is 4mX600mm. The bottom stuff is, sigh, stained pine. I suggested to the client that we take industrial pine, from the mills, and spray a matt black over them. Initially he agreed, but then reversed decision and asked me to stain it. I'd much rather have kept it to the rough-sawn pine than stain it, but I think it came out ok in the end.

  9. How large is the project? I've got some seasonal guys working for me, but can easily expand the crew. Workshop is not massive though.
  10. As the title suggests ... your OWN work only, please!
  11. Just delivered this to a client.
  12. Love me some good joint. And joints.
  13. I was at the Pretoria Boeremark last week, there's a chap there that sells old planes. I was very tempted, but rather broke. I can take some pics if interested? IIRC they were rather pricey though, R400-R800 for a rusted old plane ...
  14. Pill the beans man!
  15. Not too sure about that ... they (rangers) knew what was happening - an elephant NEVER charges with ears open, NEVER. And it takes provocation (sometimes it can be minor. mostly it needs to be fairly major) to change from mock charge to full on charge. If the ears went flat, he would've tried a warning shot over it's head, no use (as slowbee pointed out) to shoot to kill / stop from that angle. The ranger to the left had a much, much better chance at a stop shot, if needed. But that elly was not angry, just curious. No kicking of dust, no flat ears, no stomping, no head shake ... just a brisk walk closer, with wide ears, and a reply to the ranger's "hey" ... Let me tell you one thing though ... the first time you get mock charged, you are scared shitless. The same goes for the next 10 times. I don't know if that ever changes, only been charged around that many times in the 3 years I spent in the bush
