  1. No fancy tech - he built a press that had decent mechanical leverage, compressed the wet sawdust/newspaper shreddings into brick-sized blocks. IIRC he took 5 minutes a piece, it took weeks to dry fully, and was only half decent to go into the fireplace. Will chat to him over the weekend and see if he still has it/photos.
  2. I've made compost with mine - I make a metric pantsload of pine dust every week, which I mix with quite a bit of ash (from braaiing) and turn over for a couple of weeks. Makes semi-decent compost, but if you don't add the ash it makes the soil very acidic and nothing will grow in it. Mate tried making briquetes with it and gave up as too labour intensive. Also heard that you can mix with candle wax to make a decent firestarter, but never tried it myself.
  3. Drilled a couple of holes yesterday.
  4. I've had good success with Marshall spray paint's matt lacquer over rusted mild steel. Make sure the steel is clean, then let it rust a bit, make sure it's dry and flake free, then spray it two light coats. I get mine at Gelmar @R30 a can.
  5. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Houtwerkers/ Lots of 'korrelkoppe' there, but there's some amazing talent (and interesting personalities) on there.
  6. And oh yes ... In about three week's time, watch out for a Buffelsfontein video featuring my guns ... just got commissioned to make a couple of hundred for them (as a start)
  7. I'm on a local Facebook group for Woodworkers, and some of the pieces that come out there are really great - well designed, well thought out, sometimes well executed, but a lot of time finish is not great. Saw an awesome Kiaat coffee table this morning, but the joints were all gapped and filled, you could see some serious planer snipe, even on the top itself. Guy can get R2000 for it as is, but if it was 100% up to scratch (with only 20% more work) could easily flog it for R5000 or R6000. Such is life ...
  8. Fumigation certs are easy - you go and find a place that does CCA treatment of gum poles (or the like) and ask them to do a Bromide fume with certs. If your batches are big enough, it isn't expensive. Just check, some countries allow wood in if it has been painted (ie Gripseal or Woodoc Varnish) Regarding the laser cutter - I've spent ~R50K over the past three years having my logo laser engraved in my products. It's worth it finding a guy that does it for a living and paying him to do that. A decent enough laser to do logos is R120K+. My guy's laser broke in November, he spent R84K to fix it. Due to a bad part he now has to fork out another R65K to fix the same machine. In my opinion it's not worth it to have your own machine, UNLESS you have an operator for it and generate a ton of work from it.
  9. One word: Carpet Tape for the win! (OK, so I caren't count three well ... but at least I are pretty ....)
  10. Please put a GoPro on that ... last time I tried something similar, the MDF went everywhere
  11. I hope you like punk.
  12. Schweet. Shoot me a pricelist please chief@treeware.co.za
  13. Do you guys do MDF at all? I might be looking at getting a bunch of 6mm MDF (as used for laser cutting stuff) soon-ish.
  14. How many times have you been shot so far?
  15. That's awesome Forkster, I've forgotten about that. Was one of my favourite Klapperkop tunes ... just gives you the motivation to grind up that damn loose rocky hill.
  16. Ek hou van spyker, en skroef, en saag .... so ek LOVE my houtwerk job

I don't get the cycling-cranking thingy - wth are they doing?
  19. I've made knitting needles out of Ebony. What a beautiful wood to work with. I was told that you can drill and tap it with a fine thread - I believe it to be true, as it's mega hard. Works down to glass-like polish with only sandpaper.
  20. Stretched@Birth, you're welcome to show my 'gap' as well ... lol.
  21. I'm trying to cost the Gattling gun, I think it might be an over-the-top purchase (ie probably going to end up with a R1500 sticker ... ouch) so it will probably come with a tripod and it's own wooden crate. Send me some pics of the rosewood to chief@treeware.co.za - might be interested, although I'm not doing a lot of other things apart from making a crapload of guns at the moment - moved over 100 last month
  22. This one: Full auto, powered by it's won ammo (like the rest of my guns) Takes 100 bands. I'm still working on the details, but it will probably be made out of Kiaat or Meranti. Hairy. the website is not up and running at the moment. I have two models, a carbine (comes with or without a buttstock) and a submachine gun. Carbine = R250 ea (short or long, long one pictured) SMG = R350 ea. It also comes with a sling attached.
  23. Made a couple of more crates of rubber band guns. Three models done for now, next up is a Gattling gun.
