  1. Sincere condolences from the Toyota Supercycling 40+ Race Team.
  2. oh, and might as well ask him to include a condom - be prepared!!
  3. best solution is to take some tubes to your butcher and ask him to vacuum pack them for you. That way they don't chafe or perish, and they take up less space! I vacuum pack a tube and a bomb together.
  4. @dassie - thanks for the references, I will report the incident to Muldersdrift Police Station.
  5. I was with Chucky (Mark). The time was 06h21 and we were on the Avianto (Syringa) road. There was not a car in sight and we were riding 2 abreast. He missed me by less than 10cm and must have been doing 80km/h. Hooting as he came past. I don't care what anybody here says about cyclists being their own worst enemies, there as absolutely no excuse for this type of action. I have a wife and 2 kids at home. I did not threaten him, or inconvenience him in any way whatsoever. Will he explain to my family why he delibrately put my life at risk? Does he think he is entitled to take the law into his hands, and threaten my life because I am riding a bike on a public road. I won't create a violent situation, I will take the legal route. And the reisdents of the area should realise that they have made public threats which will not help their case when they are charged with attempted murder when they hit a cyclist. We as cyclists have a right to be there.
  6. Not wanting to get into a huge debate here, but drugs have a genuine pharmaceutical purpose. Anti-doping laws cater for the appropriate use of drugs through a 'Therapeutic Usage Exemption' which enable an athlete to be prescribed drugs to treat a genuine medical condition.
  7. Will be about the same price as the current yellow cpu ~R2000. But the Joule is about to be released as well so it will be interesting to see what price that comes in at.
  8. Powertap is the most cost effective of the solutions available currently, as kevind has said. Quarq is another option, but not currently available. Sounds like it will be soon though. Don't agree that the Garmin integration saves money, because the 705 is a lot more expensive than the powertap cpu. This is only applicable if you already have a Garmin. There are a lot of issues to consider, but at the end of the day, an on-bike power meter is the best way to go as you can use it indoors and outdoors. There are pro's and con's with every set up. PM me your details and I'll be happy to talk you through all the issues.

    Latex Tubes

I use them on my TT bike. I have a HED disc clincher. Latex tubes provide lower rolling resistance than butyl tubes because they return more of the energy absorbed from the road surface (hysteresis). Not sure about puncture resistance and weight - for TT application the primary issue is rolling resistance.
  11. Synergy unfortunately, segregated cycling is not the solution to the issues in the Cradle. There seem to be many well-meaning proponants of segregated cycling here on the forum, but it is not the solution for a number of reasons: - it is very expensive - the building of bike specific lanes is expensive, and therefore will never be completed adequately. Even in the cradle, the bike lanes are only built for part of the area, and as you say, were stopped because of funds. The bike lanes are built on the cheap, and hence are not even suitable for riding a bike (apart from a dual suspension bike). - They collect a lot of debris and glass. The reason why the main road surface is free of glass is because cars drive there! Tyres crush the glass down small enough to either be washed away, embedded (picked up) by the car tyres, or too small to cause punctures. Any experienced cyclist knows that the best place to cycle is a little bit into the road to avoid punctures etc. Bike specific lanes will have to be maintained in order to be used. Once they become full of glass, cyclists will avoid them. - There is a lot of pedestrian traffic in the cradle. Pedestrians walking in the bike lanes cannot be stopped, this already happens a lot. The problem with padestrians, is that they are not predictable in behaviour, and a bicycle and a pedestrian approaching each other has a high risk of collision. If the lane is physically separated, there is nowhere for the cyclist to go and the cyclist must slow down completely to figure out what the pedestrian will do. As a result, cyclists will just stop riding in these lanes. - Cycling lanes perpetuate the belief that bicycles and other traffic should be separate, creating an 'us vs. them' scenario. Integrated cycling is the solution to these problems. Unfortunately, even on the hub here, most so-called experienced cyclists are promoting the wrong behaviour. Most of the vocal cyclists here on the hub are hammering on about segregated cycling, even though they are not even aware of it. Integrated cycling requires an education process - primarily on the side of cyclists, but with motorists as well. The number of times I have been riding alone in the Cradle, and cars approaching head on are happy to overtake, coming into my lane and missing me by less than a metre, is unbelievable. Motorists just do not believe that cyclists have the right to be there. And on the other hand, cyclists seem to be blissfully unaware of the basic curtesies of the road - i.e. when you are a slower moving vehicle, try to safely yeild as soon as possible to allow faster moving traffic past! Everybody reading this thread, google the terms 'integrated cycling', 'vehicular cycling', 'segregated cycling' and educate yourself. research is available that demonstrates that cycling lanes are *more* dangerous than no cycling lanes! There are plenty cyclists here who are happy to point fingers and call other cyclists idiots etc, and who actually don't have a clue about these things! People are keen to abuse guys like linnega, who does have a clue about integrated cycling, because he is putting forward a different viewpoint, that is contrary to the mob belief!
  12. ? Why is that?Bruce.??? ? I guess its because you thought?I took velo to task for congratulating Cyclelab?.? ? Thats not the case at all. ? I meant, nobody jumped to any conclusions, the good lady got left behind by her club, thats all the facts we needed to know.!? ? The fact Ali invited her to join their club was a by product of the discussion. ? I actually?have nothing against any club, some people swear by them, I was?not fond of the ones I have joined. Maybe its just?me, I am open to that opinion, we cant all be hamsters and like the same thing. ? ? Porky, first you make direct reference to SuperCycling (being CycleLab). Then you say "that most cyclists in that club are elitest tossers with an ego problem.!" Now you say you made no reference to any club, and that you have no problem with any club. You are making a fool of yourself.
  13. Porky, I think an apology may be in order?
  14. Aren't you the same Engineer bruce that raised the ire of The Hub by explaining the mechanics of a traffic light and in so doing unleashed the wrath of a thousand violent feminists sent to hell for being closet pornographers? You speak like that guy? moi??? You'll have to supply hard evidence (a link perhaps), before making such accusations!!!!
  15. I think I'm becoming an activist. But us whiteys are so apathetic that it would be a new experience for me
