  1. Right hand side looks like Oregon pine - left hand looks like it could be yellowood
  2. I have really wide feet, and the best fitting flat I have found are the Adidas Terrex trail shoes - DueSouth had a special a while ago and I got a set for 1200 off
  3. Fixed...
  4. So Danish OIL is not oil? gives a very nice sheen, so must be wax.... Starting to sound like certain political players....
  5. I think it depends on what you are trying to do - 30/70 mix does not do very well as a first fix finish - but adding varnish to it should help a lot - especially in the uv stabilisation of it.
  6. You should try danish oil..... then you will see shine...
  7. Only strip the loose stuff off - green scrubby works pretty well - see what it looks like afterwards - if it doesn't look good then strip.
  8. And what do you think wooddoc is made of exactly? it's basically varnish with high build components in - and some agents to make it less uv sensitive. I used it on wood windows for years - a real mission to look after - until someone told me about the linseed oil/turps trick - after that maintenance became easy - just a quick wipe every few months and nothing else needed ito maintenance - try it - you might like it - and yes, you can put woodoc over it without issues if you don't like it. - you can also use it as maintenance over a woodoc finish - works well. The trick - with all wood - is to keep maintaining it - never let it get to a point where it needs to be re-finished in it's entirety. My dad uses the linseed oil/turps on his jetty planks - now over 25 years old - and they take a beating from sun, wind and salt water - still good.
  9. Builders usually has linseed oil - as do most hardware shops. Paint brush works fine - but tends to splash more than a cloth - it's pretty thin stuff - protect your floor with plastic or something.
  10. 30% linseed oil mixed with 70% turps - just apply it - goes on well with a cloth (it's basically old fashioned varnish) - repeat every 2 - 3 months - also works well for wooden window frames and doors - get the domestic engineer to do it after washing the windows...
  11. I collapsed yesterday and bought a Super 2R in the UK for 2600... http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/7029/products/bell-super-2r-mips-full-face-mtb-helmet-black-white.aspx Best price I could find with a free lift back from the UK in 10 days...
  12. Spares - for shimano brakes - from where? OP should just buy these - functionally the same as guides - https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/193995-sram-x0-trail-brakes-brand-new/ And I can vouch for the seller.
  13. guide rs is also an option - unless you really really need the tool. Free pad contact adjuster... I have never needed to readjust mine mid ride - think I have only done it maybe twice all told - so really RS would be fine - got a set of those on my enduro and ultimates on my xc bike - brilliant brakes indeed.
  14. erm.... NO.... Guides.... for sure - in a different league to Magura plastic
  15. When you smoke out the house with the roaster, expect fireworks.... keep an escape route open and a fire extinguisher handy... (for self defence only)
  16. Jhb kitchens are bigger than slaapstad kitchens.... Robur's are perfect for home kitchen use - they are too heavy for the wife to throw away....
  17. You can drop one off when they come in for test... when you are up in Jhb.... Curious to see how it does against my grinders - looks promising though - but kind of hard to imagine it being better and faster than a Robur E - although clearly nothing is impossible. Edit - all it needs to do is drop the volume of my wifes yelling about kitchen space.... that might be worth a downgrade.
  18. Jock does have a coffee shop too.... ok - it's more of a food place with coffee... pretty sure he only does doubles....
  19. oops - Buy a Mazzer mini type A - but don't expect fast grinding - there is a reason they have a portafilter stand... you can use the SJ burrs in it - goes a bit faster, but it will never be a robur. Otherwise wait for the new Baratza Sette 270W http://www.baratza.com/grinder/sette-270w/
  20. Now in true hub fashion - you need to give use some discounted offers for hubbers..... given that this is the most popular coffee thread in SA.... PS - Welcome to the hub - don't be a stranger.
  21. Which superjolly is it? electronic or with a doser? http://www.mazzer.com/en/electronic-grinder-dosers/super-jolly-electronic/ is the electronic one. Doser wastes coffee for home use - but the electronic one is pretty good indeed, and there are a couple of hacks you can do to swap a doser to a funnel
  22. http://darachem.co.za/ have something similar
  23. Buy a R300 one... doesn't need much power https://www.makro.co.za/diy/ryobi-650w-115mm-angle-grinder-256194EA Still - do a test wash and paint before going the sanding route - will take you a year to get the dust out the house
  24. You will - plastic and carpet underlay below that in case of spills - but washing soda needs eye protection and gloves to use - but it's less caustic than sugar soap by far - and for short periods can be used bare handed if you rinse your hands afterwards. Wash the wood with green 3m kitchen scrubbies (forget what they are called) - it will almost strip off the varnish - you will see if you try a test strip - once it is clean enough then just rinse with water, let dry, and paint. Should be a lot easier and quicker than sanding - and less cleanup.
