  1. It improves with fresh beans and a good grinder - but it doesn't last very long anyway... only way you can cheat it a bit is to use robusta beans - and you may or may not like the taste of those (and not so easy to find in SA, as most roasters prefer arabica)
  2. www.importalia.co.za has a couple of grinders from isomac, solis, etc in that price range. http://www.importalia.co.za/grinders_isomac.html
  3. Bodum make one - available today on onedayonly.co.za Can't say I approve of what comes out of these things - but....
  4. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Everest-Ascent-untold-Griffith-possible/dp/1846043654 Might capture your attention too - true story about Griffith Pugh's contribution to the first Everest ascent - but it's interesting - a largely untold story...

    Ocean eyewear

Sometimes you won't see things properly - so wet rocks sometimes look dry for instance (clearly this can lead to some line selection errors....) sometimes looking into shadows is difficult and a few other funnies that make you misjudge things a bit sometimes. Photochromic glasses without the polarisation are the best (imho) - but if you go with lenses that go very dark, then you better make sure they respond quickly enough to changes from light to dark conditions - some of the cheaper photochromic lenses respond a bit slowly (this is not usually a big issue) but going from bright sunlight to shade conditions can be hazardous at speed - a medium lens is probably better than a super dark shade.

Polarized lenses and mountain biking do not go together - not at all - stick to unpolarized lenses for mtb and polarized for fishing.
  7. I would go with a co2 (dry ice) blast on the wheels - that's pretty good at not destroying finishes etc - there are a few local providers around http://www.cwrmglobal.co.za/dry-ice-cleaning-services.htm - never used them but worth a call
  8. I have had a bike frame done by these guys - took a bit of persuading, but they did a very nice job using a fine media.. http://www.hpsandblast.co.za/ But why not get it acid dipped first for inspection, then lightly blasted by the powder coater when all repairs are done - this will also clean up the inner tubes, but will need to be carefully neutralized afterwards.
  9. It's a veterinary product that someone seems to be rebranding for humans - as to it safety... who knows.. Looking at the ingredients, performance improving effects the same as snake oil - but you will get a hot flush... if you want a hot flush, take niacin tabs before meals....
  10. It's taken a while to get the old man wound up enough to find and photograph the set - but here you go: He says he thinks the wood pieces are actually teak - his memory is that it comes from Burma
  11. I did a year of Sunday evenings at Spur Rondebosch (commune tradition).... fortunately you were still in primary school then.... and coffee was never on the menu - and weirdly they never got grumpy if we played backgammon till late.... which we did a lot.
  12. A compressor will be better still a LOT better....
  13. It's realistically only 11 bar in the cylinder.... and if it is similar to a paintball cylinder, then it can take several orders of magnitude more pressure...... more than enough safety margin....
  14. Take the wheel to Anton at Summit cycles in midrand and ask him to check the dishing - and if it's wrong, to fix it - it's far more likely to be the wheel than the frame.
  15. One could Probably make one of these easily enough with a paintball cylinder and a few bits and some smarts
  16. If you show that to your wife you know exactly what is going to happen..... there will be a discussion.....
  17. Your wife is a special person.....

  21. Interesting - I had thought it might be a bit of Sapele Mahogany given the grain, but the colour is off for that too
