  1. AND silly me, I thought this was going to be like a Pirelli Calendar... You can imagine my disappointment when I opened this MTB Calendar. Bummer...
  2. I would like to advise you to look not only at the purchase price, but also the long-term service costs of maintaining your groupset as well. The upper-end grouppo's not only costa lota, their replacement parts are expensive as well i.e. the chain and cluster is going to increase the service costs long-term. Generally speaking, the higher up you go, the more punishment the grouppo will withstand, so the Tiagra will break sooner than Ultegra 600, if you ride them the same amount of Km's. I went from entry-level Shimano when I was a schoolboy, to 105 when I upped my training in Technicon, then I upgraded to Ultegra 600 when I was riding 6 days a week and had a job! Sure I don't do that amount of training any more, but my 9-speed Ultegra is still in very good condition some 14 years later. Your LBS should be able to advise you on the best-fit for you, based on budget, intended use and amount of riding you're planning to do. Cheers,
  3. I Managed a 03:08 yesterday for the 55Km. really was enjoying myself until the legs started cramping full-on, from the 2-hour point onwards. From then, it was teeth--gritting stuff to get to the finish. I was impressed with the general organisation. Then I also passed a few riders who fell and possibly broke bones, medical assistance seemed to be 100% as well. Hearing that some riders may have taken an 18Km shortcut does not make me very happy, but at least I know that my time & distance was accurate. Yes it's up to the organisers to ensure this does not happen either, unfortunate that it seems to have happened though. Hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as much as I did... Cheers,
  4. Legend!
  5. Ah thanks for the offer, but a bit rich for me. I agree it's worth the money though. I have an Onkyo surround sound receiver coupled to my KEF's and I love them, get such enjoyment from the system. I have small kids now, so that's why I opted for the headphones...does not disturb them! When in the office I use the headphones too, same reason. Nice! And those speakers are pretty!
  6. Dang! I battle to upload pictures on this site!!!
  7. I bought a pair of AKG K242HD Headphones about a year ago, man these are excellent. Good value for money as well. AKG is a division of Harman Kardon. Not a brand you see very often - I was looking at buying some Sennheiser HD500 Series, Dr. Dre Beats Pro and Bose Headphones. The AKG's cost about a third of the others, and I'm really happy with them. Actually listening to them right now, while surfing. Cheers, LibrariesPicturesAKG%20Headphones.png
  8. Hey Fruity, Now these are a good looking set of cans! And price, if you don't mind me asking? They look expensh. Cheers,
  9. Well I am listening to this Freedom's Children - real concept music (iBurst connection is battling to keep up!) These Freedom's Children blokes sound a bit like Uriah Heep. Very mellow, would have been a hell of a party. How about this one - I really like Mr. Bill Withers. Had this album on cassette back in my Navy days. BUT that was not sssoooo long ago, 1990. Seems like a lifetime ago. Man, what memories. I think that I missed my generation totally. My dad used to listen to these bands, that's where I got my love of rock music from. Led Zeppelin, Tull, Heep, Cream, Santana, 70's rock. Too Good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo&feature=related
  10. Hey FeO, Here's one for you... Cream Sunshine of your Love - Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. BABY!!
  11. Lekker, enjoying this right now! Reminds me of the Orignal Soundtrack to War Of The Worlds. Dammit this is music, not the junk these guys make today! Also reminds me of Jethro Tull, who I saw live in Pretoria about 12 years ago! Thanks for that!
  12. When I bought me a set of KEF bookshelf speakers about 15 years ago (back when I had cash!) the track to use for reference was The Cranberries track "Zombie". that will get those Base and Mid-ranges working for their money, to earn their keep!
  13. AND one of my favourites from the same album, Stevie Ray Vaughn and double trouble... Track is Tin Pan Allley. Awesome... love that steel blue Guitar of his...
  14. I have this album on vinyl... awesome, Jeff Healey is blind and plays that guitar flat on his lap. Memories...thanks guys.
  15. Not tape, but an excellent protective measure that I use on my bikes: I bought a 1m length of 'spiral wrap' from Builders' Warehouse. It is available in a continuous roll in the electrical cabling section. Available in opaque or black (I use black). It's used to 'wrap' electric / electronic cables together so that they are neat & tidy. Made from tough plastic (perhaps polypropylene?) I wrapped my chainstay end-to-end and used cable-ties on each end to secure it. Works like a charm, and my frame has Zero dents or chips. Cheers,
  16. HI, has anyone used this new coffee machine? Imported but the pods are manufactured locally, apparently they cost about R40 for 10 pods. http://www.luxurycoffee.co.za/ Cheers,
  17. Lance Armstrong and I have something in common - neither of us have won the Tour de France.
  18. Awesome pictures you have taken, real mood shots I think a better camera may not do your 'theme' justice... Well done!
  19. My 2c worth, Phil Liggett is a legend, albeit getting old. He's a great cycling (and South African) ambassador, and a gentleman. I hear you guys when you say you might be tired of hearing him, but I think he really set the 'bar' which others measure by. The guy's worked hard all his life to be top of his game, let him fade with dignity. Cheers,
  20. Hey Gordonza, a quick visit to the local Thule shop and they will sort you out. There's a thule shop in Woodmead, another in Clearwater. They also have a website - google them perhaps? I used the Woodmead shop the other day, they were helpful and they have many good references. Cheers,
  21. Commuting toughens you for race day! My best races have been during the time I was commuting to- and from work. Heck, I really need to get my plans together and ride to work again, thanks for the inspiration guys! Cheers,
  22. Weird Exercise bike/jacuzzi hybrid Check this out guys, this one could be interesting. Not sure if I'd put this in front otf the TV though... The FitWet Jet Bike hopes to become the new fitness craze that's going to sweep the gym scene. Using the fact that water is about four times more resistant to movement than air, the FitWet can boost the aerobic effort of your workout, by having you do spinning with your lower body submerged. You just pedal like you would on a regular stationary bike, except it will take stacks more effort to keep things going and lead to better results in less time. Apparently. And because this is an uber-luxury piece of fitness equipment, the FitWet comes with a host of bits and bobs to stave away the boredom while you peddle up a hurricane. You get a touchscreen TV and control panel to measure your workout, a towel rack and a cup holder for that gym beverage staple, the smoothie. At $18,000, or R156 000, a pop you're unlikely to see the FitWet at you local Virgin Active, so maybe it's fitness craze aspirations need to be trimmed a little. But don't feel bad, I'm sure their's a cheaper alternative: like a quick dip in the pool, perhaps. <<Featured article on www,mweb.co.za>>
  23. Saddam I hear you, but also other valid comments here - Life's too short man. Let it go and chill. Don't waste your valuable time on guys like this! There will always be One arse who arrives and spoils things.
  24. There are many places on the Spruit where blind corners demand a bit of caution. Else your teeth are going to get stuck on the handlebar of an oncoming bike! Same thing almost happened to me a couple of times, and remember to spare a thought for the other riders / runners / dog walkers / horse riders as well.
