  3. oi' date=' oi...okay BikeMax...especially for you! here goes... Now i know how it feels to bonk too... It started out as a fun day...our bunch started at a nice pace and my team mate and i were both very excited and psyched up. Got a flat about 15kms in, fixed it and slowly began to catch the bunches that passed me while i was fixing my wheel. It began to rain, which i loved, but then got another flat When i got on the biek again i didn't feel very well (drowsy, weak and nauseas(sp?))and i only wanted to get to the end. Was by far the longest 80-odd km i've done! Towed a whole bunch of men for the last 10km (but was so worn out that i only noticed this with about 3-4km to go) was way too tired to fight it out with them at that stage, so carried on in front for the remainder of the race. At least they had the decency to not try and sprint me for the line. Oh well...bonk, crash, pain, strain, etc. are all part of the sport and everyone experiences it some time, so i'll take today as a learning experience. Btw...who was they BikeMax guy that turned around on the route and greeted me when he came past?[/quote'] Thanks I think it must have been Riaan Joubert (if he was a sub vet rider) - he turned round on the course after killing himself trying to pull Robby back to the bunch after his puncture.
  4. No doubt that from a training / performance aspect that track has a significant part to play in RR success.
  5. What a nightmare - could happen to any of us.
  6. The Karvonen method (heart rate reserve) has some flaws that you need to be aware of if you use it. Main one being that if you are tired or not recovered from previous training or for any other reason RHR is elevated, then your training zones become harder. The two methods give quite different zones and the differences are greater at lower intensities so if you are using HR mainly for intervals at higher intensity, then the zones are pretty similar. Intensity(%HR) Simple% Karnoven 951851879017518085 166 172 801561657013615055107128(MHR = 195, RHR = 45)
  7. Most heart rate zones are expressed as a %age of MHR straight and not taking into account residual resting HR. Your MHR is just that - your max, and most zones are expressed as a %age of that figure.
  8. Freewheeler is talking about Michael Pepper. Thanks Domenic - my mistake.
  9. That's a relief - I thought it was some twisted sex game that you knew about..
  10. Set of jumper leads walked into a bar. Bouncer: "Hey' date=' don't start anything!" Bikemax that goes for you too...[/quote'] Ok - back in my box now..
  11. I think thats just Marius' spelling starting to fade agian... Would that be "fade again" ?
  12. Whats a Greeeeepy sob ?
  13. Marius - I smell an excuse coming on ..don't even think about it .. If you are not well then it is fine to just ride your bollox off for 20 kms and then go home.. (that's fair isn;t it MW ?)
  14. The Shimano compact is designed to work with it's existing front mech's (and as a user, I can tell you that it works flawlessly)
  15. WEll' date=' there's that, and the fact that this study seems to come out of 1988 or so... they use Shimano Sante... released in 1987, and disapperaed about the same... Technology has changed... [/quote'] But aerodynamic principles have not Granted, but with the changes specifically to the front end of bikes ie STI, Ergopower and the changes to brake calliper design surely will affect the findings. I was not disputing that, but rather questioning the relevance and accuracy of the study. Surely a more recent study would be better? The findings may change as a result of smoother calipers etc but this is unlikely to effect the validity of the test in terms of the aero benefits of wheels, helmets etc - will have more of an effect on overall aero profile of the rider. The study is certainly relevant, as for accuracy I cannot vouch, but what I can say is that the principles it establishes seem to be well borne out in other data I have seen.
  16. He is a good guy and has some good deals.
