  1. That's built on Crests... Which the OP will trash in a second. Good wheels, but not at above 90kg.
  2. Yeah. But again, not that much better than the Boulder. At this level, and extra grand saved does a LOT to teh spec of a bike. So - I'd wait out till I had another couple thousand saved up, then either buy second hand or get a newer, better bike that'll be a real upgrade over the Boulder.
  3. Unfortunately shipping is $33 so you'll end up paying close to R 600 for the spring. Have you tried Cape Cycle Systems, or asked your LBS to check on local availability for you?
  4. http://www.jensonusa.com/Rockshox-Dart-Spring-Kit There you go... They're pretty good with shipping as well.
  5. yeah. *** (sorry, OP - budget) 26er to budget 29er is not an upgrade.
  6. I'd upgrade the fork first, tbh... It makes a huuuuge difference
  7. oh. Yes. According to Devon, HD's are a rear only tire. Especially when there's a nobby nic to go on the front (yes, he put them on Capricorn's ride)
  8. Neither, over your boulder. That thing is strong as nails, and you should be looking up a segment if you want to upgrade. Oh - the Revel 0 is a 26er and the Karakoram is a 29er. Both have the same (crap) selection of parts, forks and so on. Basically - keep your Boulder and save up for a bit more!
  9. Nope. I just couldn't hold a line 'cos I was riding like a douche...
  10. LOL! YOu had to, didn't you!? That "slmost-off" was purely down to me being a prat. I wasn't happy with the line I had taken and was wary of the tree in front of me and the off camber muddy corner. That I stopped was just a mark of how much of a prat I was! Other than that though, super tire. I didn't feel them sketch over the (many) roots either...
  11. On the crrrrrr aspect. The superstars are a lot quieter than the hopes, but still make a ticking sound. Not overly loud but still noticeable.
  12. Yeah very easy. Standard bearing size locally available. As for the other spares, 3 to 4 days away which is often a lot more snappy than local okes can do. Mavic have a proprietary nipple / spoke architecture which can be a total bitch to service, not to mention the free-hubs which I have heard are a bit weaker than hope / superstar.
  13. Cheaper, for one (I think). Secondly the bearings are fully replaceable. And yes, I know the bearings are replaceable on the xt / xtr hubs but only if the cup and cone are in good condition. With the hope/superstar hubs the whole bearing assembly is replaceable
  14. Yeah. Just that those 2 generally follow up and return calls!
  15. Hmmm. Everything except the crank, brakes, hubs and bars on my bike are 2nd hand. And they are awesome.
  16. Cycle factory in montague gardens or Action Cycling in Bree Street ct.
  17. Loool! Pain or shine, DJR, Capricorn and I were Rodin in Tokai with one other guy yesterday. He tried to tjoon Pain or Shine's brakes, saying that they made him crash all the time. I pointed out the fact that he (as a rider with formula r1's) was a bit outnumbered and should think more before regurgitating the "avid is crap" motto that non avid users tote Me: elixir 5 Capricorn: X0 trail Pain or Shine: X0 trail DJR: juicy 5/7
  18. Never tried, or just couldn't get used to the difference in the way the shifters work?
  19. Couple of options, but we're waiting to see what the little river does first!
  20. So lemme get this straight. All your hard core dirt roadie buddies told you SRAM is crap and shimano is better because coolheat give better service (debatable) and SRAM wears out quickly and is finicky, so you ditched your xx1 for shimano (as told to do so by your dirt roadie buddies) declared the xx1 as crap and shimano as the best thing since like ever!? I'll be sure to tell my SRAM gears, chain, brakes and fork (x0, elixir 5, pc991, RS Lyrik) that they're all crap and must start behaving like they should and skip gears, blow seals and stop stopping me in time to negotiate the trails I negotiate. Hmmm. Opinion - dismissed.
