  1. And the 85% mark is here... Only things to do: Connect the cranks & chain guide. The BB assembly is giving me a bit of ***, and 'cos I don't have the proper tool the bearings aren't seating properly. This means that there's approx 3mm of clearance on the non-drive side. Which shouldn't be there. I'm going to take it in tomorrow AM to fix. Rear brake - the adapter is the wrong fkn size! The PCD is a really strange size and both the adapter that I bought and the one that came with the brakes has a distance between the mounting points 3mm more than that of the IS mounts themselves. Cut the read der housing - very straightforward. But I don't have the cable cutters (well, I have cutters, but not the right ones) and I don't wanna stuff it up. Oh. And the front tire is on back-to-front. Tragedy. Here she is!
  2. Shot man... Appreciate the input. Hindsight being 20/20, that's what I would have done. But I'm just too amped to ride the beeyatch! I think I'm going to haul in the expertise of Mr. Capricorn on the final touches here. But coming back from Peddlars, the finish looks to have settled itself very well. No lumps etc. And now the assemblage begins! Fork with the decals on. Tell me that doesn't look good. Go on - I dare ya!
  3. Bwaha! bwahahahaha!!! Anyway - I'm off to Peddlars. Ciao all!
  4. She's learnt to roll with it... Just gives me a look, and then the sigh. Followed by a "make me some tea"
  5. AAAARGH! Trigger finger be damned! I've done them already, as per the normal BOXXER decals. Had to get to a meeting, and the e-mail had to be sent before I left the office (e-mail addy of printing place not on the phone - eedjit!) Anyway - more pics. Decals on the frame!!! All hanging in the "spray booth" with their clearcoats on... I seriously underestimated the viscosity of hte clearcoat, so there were a few places it ran. I just hope it comes out okay in the end! Seriously shiny though!
  6. Okay - FORK DECALS - which ones? Vote for me please... On the left, we have the normal Boxxer decal. On the right, we have my version...
  7. like stripping it myself, spraying it myself, designing the decals myself and buying all the parts myself? There is a bit more individuality going into it though... It's going to be named "Steed of Chucky" (my nick in professional circles)
  8. Just stickers. But you raise a valid point, Oh Mega Man...
  9. hey man, only NOS I have is from Last Night's Curry, ekse! I was leaning htat way anyway. Now to design them.
  10. YES!!! sorry - I know who rode a Mongoose - guy by the name of Mark - hung out with Ryan Campling. Dude - I remember you saying how *** it was having to wait for replacement frames all the time! I was the oke who had his Giant stolen from the bike lockup during exams... Let's just say I was waaaaaaay smaller back then!
  11. No you can't - they're being placed under the clearcoat. SO once they're on, they're ON!
  12. Guys - I'm still not 100% sure on the whole fork decal thing. It needs something on there, but I was just throwing ideas around. the options are: 1) Decal with graphics (skull one is the best so far, unless somebody can submit something else to my liking) 2) Plain BOXXER decal in black, shown vertically with black RS logo topside of BOXXER.
  13. 2000 - are you the same Nigel who was rather gangly, and rode an orange mongoose that broke about 4 times before you replaced it with something decent!?
  14. I vote both. And re looking after your best interests - they're both safety related. The Hopes are a health & safety necessity. They stop you sooner. The lid, well that's also H&S related. Helps cushion (what little) brain cells you have...
  15. DAmn, those chinamen do have funny tastes! It's like the convo some of us were having a few weeks back re the downhill scene in the Orient. It's all for posers. We tagged it iDownhill... And Nige - I'm a dbn boy by birth. In fact, I went to Pinetown Boys' High. So I know all about them charrrriotts of faya, my laaahnie! Lekka cool, ekse!
  16. You no like? WHy not? You reckon just the BOXXER designation, with the RS logo? Nothing else?
  17. Shot guys... I'm thinking of putting ONE bit of colour on it, in the form of a fork decal. A la... thoughts?
  18. Okay. Decals are printed, and I am collecting them tomorrow. Fk. Make that today... They're going on the frame tomorrow today, after one last quick coat with the paint. Fork and rear triangle are getting the treatment tomorrow this morning, and being clearcoated tomorrow night tonight. I'm still in 2 minds about which design to have printed for the fork - just plain BOXXER logo or one of those designed ones with a couple skulls in for fun. Leaning towards the skulls. Cranks will also get a repaint tomorrow today to get rid of the fingerprints left by the other half, as well as a gouge put there courtesy of one of or feline contingent. Grrr! If all goes well, bike should be ready to go on Saturday afternoon. Will be putting her together on Saturday tomorrow morning!
  19. For me, I've just seen the XT's come apart when someone hit the dirt. Totally fkd. Needed a new lever assembly in its entirety. Also, the pivot point on the lever ius closer into the bars on the other brakes, which allows you to brake more easily throughout the stroke. Also keeps them out the way! Number 1 reason - dot 5.1 as opposed to dot 4. Synthetic vs Mineral oil. Plus, I couldn't afford the 2012's Shot mate! It's coming along really quickly now...
