  1. LOL! Yeah, I do. Those plant thingies were bunches of Rocket, lettuce & tomato, but the dog got them and shredded the lot. So, I put them on the beanbag to get them out of his reach. Then he grew. He can reach them now. I'm still looking for some suitable wall brackets to put them up so he can't get at them... I tend to over-engineer things like that, but I want something STRONG to hold them up. Pity the ones I'm looking at are R 200 each!

  5. Doggone - main criteria are the ability to lift clear of the cars, and for wifey to be able to do it. Brackets on the wall renders the latter unachievable (for most women) so the harness is the best option in this case.

  7. Dude, that's frikkin expensive for pulleys... I got mine for R 10 each (for the singles) to R 25 (for a large double with a rope securing section)
  8. Ja, with 2 rollers each side (the LHS effectively has 2 rollers due to the tie-off on the bottom of the pully) the load is effectively halved. So for a 14kg bike, your wife would be lifting 7kg.

  10. Zaskar - that's using more pullies and rope than you need to... this is my proposal. the one end of the rope ties to the eyelet at the bottom of the right hand side pully. LHS pully is a 2-wheel variety. Easiest option, and no wastage of rope. You can tie off the other end on the bike itself, so the whole thing takes up less space than the bike itself...
  11. Nope - to pully number 3. It's got a rope-securing nobbin in front of the pully itself (you can see it on the bottom end of the pic) That's the exact reason that I stipulated that type of pully instead of a normal one. Makes it far neater, and it's secure. It's pulling against itself, which also makes it easier to hoist
  12. If you've got any sailing/rope specific stores, go there rather than builders for the pullies & rope. Far cheaper, and far better selection...
  13. CLIMBING ROPE!? That's a bit of an overkill... Also will have to get bigger guage pullies, which increases the cost. I reckon 5m per bike, depending on how high your roof is and whether you're prepared to lift the bike off the floor and then hook it on, or whether you want to hook the bike on while it's still on the ground. If the latter, then 15m per bike.
  14. Eyelet anchors can come as part of the rawl bolt. If not, then just get the same size eyelet bolts as the bolt that is in the rawl bolt assembly, and use that in its place. You can even attach the rope to the bike... no additional anchor-point needed.
  15. pullies should be R 10 to R 20 each MAXIMUM (depending on material) don't worry if you can only get plastic ones - they're still FRIKKIN strong, and if they can handle a 14m long surfski or 100m^2 sail, they can handle a bike. Rawl bolts will be the most expensive bit, unless you don't already have a masonry bit for your drill. If you don't - get a black & decker Piranha bit. Expensive, but they last and last and last... Then you've gotta get your rope and the hooks you're gonna use to attach the bike.
