  1. Eina. Been there, the only thing that helped me was surgery, injections and physio were a complete waste of money. Be warned, after surgery the pain is something fierce, but I am almost ok now. Sterkte.
  2. I could not find a replacement cable that was long enough.
  3. Here are a few pictures of one that I saved. Before:- http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0031.jpg http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0024.jpg After:- http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0073.jpg http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0069.jpg http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0065.jpg http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s397/TarsTarkas44/Bicycle/DSCF0068.jpg Cheers.
  4. Ok I confess to ignorance. Where or What is Giempie Street. :)
  5. Hello Nimby, I raised this topic not so long ago and received essentially the same answers as you. Despite extensive telephone calls and requests here, I was unable to locate any geared hubs in South Africa (Shimano or Sram). Rohloff hubs are available (I believe in JHB. somewhere), but at a VERY high price. If you want an IGH you will have to import (with all the concomitant problems). It appears that the local South African cycling establishment is far too conservative to use these hubs. This has been my experience anyway.
  6. A household name. Ertjies R.I.P. My Condolences to the family.
  7. When I was still Road Running I found that slow release magnesium tablets plus a reduction in training intensity seemed to help. (Increase training intensity gradually as the cramps reduce). My 2c
  8. Bicycles are a new interest of mine so I do not know very much. I would however like to know if track events still take place at the Bellville Velodrome, or have they died out like so many other things in South Africa. Tks.
  9. This was a birthday present to myself when I was younger, actually this watch has had a very hard life, it was used extensively in the day. The watch was serviced by Omega about 2 years ago, now it is used for special occasions only. Apart from a full cleaning, lubrication and regulation service, the following parts were replaced. Strap. Bezel. Hands. Crystal (glass). The watch is otherwise completely and fully original. Hope this answers your question.
  10. Wore this oldie today (Omega Seamaster 300) dates from 1967.
  11. I am thinking of building up a single speed "all pupose" bike. What used frame and fork should I look out for, it must have horizontal rear dropouts because I don't want to struggle with chain tensioners etc., I would also like to fit modern hubs to this frame. I am looking for a reasonable quality and priced (read cheap) solution. Thanks for all suggestions.
  12. Agreed 100%, but everything is a ripoff in Sefrica, not only the new stuff. (That is, if you can find any stuff in South Africa). All vendors in S.A. work on the ripoff principle to a greater or lesser degree.
  13. Where in South Africa, preferably in the Cape Town area can I buy these ?. Any info will be appreciated. http://www.axlerelease.com Thank You.
  14. Agreed, that is one hlva bike, it will be nice to own, but will it make one a better or faster rider.
  15. Mr. Johan Bornman, thank you for your reply, You confirm what I have found out. I don't think that I will go the import route, there are too many problems such as payment, lost or damaged goods, theft, etc. (I have had bad experiences with Amazon, received the standard overworked reply "you can claim from the insurance". I think that I will rather look for a suitable frame and build a Single Speed. The South African online suppliers also appear to be somewhat iffy. Thanks again.
  16. Obviously they are not BEEEEG in South Africa. Unlike the old "Big Corn Bites"
  17. What a delightful HAPPY photograph, sadly we will probably never see a scene like this in Sefrica.
  18. Ummmmm........... I do not want to throw mud all over the place, but my experiences have been spotty. I hope that future experiences will be better. Otherwise they have a great shop.
  19. Thank you all for the pointers. Much appreciated.
  20. Can anyone here help ? Or must I try and source outside South Africa, and if so who would you recommend as a reliable supplier ?. Thank You.
