  1. Vaughters puts it nicely into context here..: “I find it a little disappointing that people are concerned with or looking for some definitive list because the reality is that if you look at the stats, probably less than one third of riders in the race were even tested for it. I don’t really think the list has any particular validity in terms of who was and who wasn’t.” The list of names including the 1998 Tour winner Marco Pantani and second placed rider Jan Ullrich, the latter who has already admitted to doping during his career. Third placed rider Bobby Julich was listed under suspicious but admitted to doping during the race in October last year. However the names listed are best described as a collection of doped riders than a complete picture or resister of those that cheated. “You don’t have to look much further than Tyler Hamilton as a example. He raced the 1998 Tour. He was second place in the time trial to Jan Ullrich and he’s admitted to doping during that period and he wasn’t on the list. It’s a bit of a futile exercise to assume that the guys who are on the list are naughty and the guys not on the list are good. That’s just not understanding the issue and it’s a considerable oversimplification of the issue too,” Vaughters said.
  2. The sad part is he's podium at the Giro is probably their best result so far this year...loads of big names on that team getting no results at all. Also not so sure that TJ is the way to go but he will get better...but a Grand tour winner I don't know. They need fresh blood and lots of it...stop buying riders based on the past years results and start building a team of young guys that can win classics and tours. Imagine Vaughters at Garmin with a budget like that!
  3. By the way....I did not see them enter Paris, did they give Jens a solo ride onto the first lap? Sounds like he will not be back so was hoping they would do something special for him? Also thanks to Dale for keeping the Dope talking to the minimum on this topic....made for some great race talk!
  4. Really happy for Froome!!In the end he won by more than 5 minutes but I can't remember a yellow jersey being put under so much pressure for some time....both on and off the bike...he took everything they gave and when ever he could made sure he showed everybody who is the strongest rider! Great job by all the teams that took the race to Sky!!Made the tour what it was....they could have all just accepted defeat after the first mountain and TT but chose to fight them all the way to Paris!
  5. I think he will win at least 3 , not sure about in a row but he should be good for at least 6 years still. Really hope he defends next year and then go on to try and win the other 2 grand tours...would love to see him do a Giro/Vuelta one year. At the very least he should go back to the Vuelta because that is the race that started it all for him.
  6. Froome will be dead tired after this tour...he started winning in Febr and has dominated almost all the tours he entered. He had to fight very hard for this win so I think if he decides to ride he will not be able to match Nibali , but I think he will now take a well deserved rest! Think Nibali is going to have a easy ride in the Vuelta because all the top guys are smashed after this tour.....
  7. Nice article on Froome! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/cycling/tour-de-france/10191962/Tour-de-France-2013-Chris-Froome-fits-the-bill-as-cycling-seeks-a-new-hero.html
  8. Do you have a link that streams direct from eurosport? Not this lemonsport add crazy links? I hate it watching the action and the next moment a popup add right in the middle of the screen...
  9. Great stage again!! The race is on for second and third....I can't see right now how Conto can stop Quintana from taking second and he will have to watch out for Rodriguez because he is getting stronger every day. By Saturday I think he will be crazy good on that final climb... We will have to see what Katusha and Movistar come up with but it should make things a bit easier for Sky...3 teams fighting for 2 spots...nobody is just going to let someone go on a crazy attack.Movistar again the strongest team on the day...
  10. Watch out for Rodriques the next couple of days,he is the only one that looks like he is getting stronger....sure he would love to take todays stage! Sky must be scared off the next 2 days....it will be very hard to control things!Only thing that will save them is the fact that the climbs are too hard for most so as a team saxo can only ride as hard as the guys they need to cause the damage!Contodor on hes own won't be enough to break Froome.... Everybody will pay big time for there efforts today!
  11. I have given up on the guy....still a fan I just don't expect him to win any of the big 3. Hoping the same does not happen with Andy!
  12. Maybe it would have been best for him to do the giro and then focus on the vuelta....the tour is just to hard this year for him.
  13. Nice way to make a statement! So much for Sky's boring tactics... Love the way he rides everybody of he's wheel....he almost never plays any games and attacks from the front.Very very hard to do!!
  14. Great stage yesterday!Really sorry for Valverde....I was hoping to see him on the podium in Paris!Maybe Quintana will now put in a big attack on Ventoux to get movistar back in the game... Think it is time for Froome and Porte to hurt some ego's........lets see how he answers them tomorrow....
  15. 100%!!!!! It is very clear when you look at it at speed that Veelers movement at the last moment caused the accident. Cav had to lean into him. The hatters will hate....It is hard to believe that people think someone will put himself at risk at that speed by bumping into another rider on purpose!
  16. Yes its good for the new sponsor. It also plays into Sky's hands if you ask me.....long range attacks will be very difficult from now on.Belkin,Saxo and Movistar all have loads of interest in the podium and are not just going to sit by and let some other contender take their spot. Good to have 4 teams in it after the first mountains.
  17. You mean Rodrigeuz campaign? Was a great attack by him....only problem is that was he's only truly dominating day in the last 12 months of racing.
  18. I also don't see Sky having another day like yesterday. They will be much more motivated to not have something like that happen to there leader again. They don't have to do much this week, the sprinter teams will take care of the pace making and the TT will be a rest day for most. Saxo and Movistar will try again but I think Sky will be strong from now on.
  19. From what I have read Quintana can more than hold he's own in a TT so I think he might do well enough on Wednesday.Won't be the best but if he gets close to Conto he will be happy. Only problem with him this year will be he's age....can he ride 3 weeks without having a bad day...lets see.
  20. Lets see how the TT goes but I have a feeling we might see both Valverde and Quintana on the Podium in Paris. If Movistar lets Quintana ride he's own race then I think he will do damage with only Froome able to match him. Only thing with Quintana is can he ride 3 weeks consistent at the age of 23? If Contador goes very fast in the TT's he might be in it still... The 2 Belkin guys might also still have a podium shot. After the first week I would say...maybe Froome,Quintana,Valverde....in that order.
  21. That is one serious team!By far the best lineup we have seen from them. Anyday as good as last years Sky.. Saxo also...packed with climbers.
  22. Question,I need some picks for the TT? Martin,Froome...who else do you guys think will go fast?
  23. +1000!!!!!!!!!! Lets see how it turns out from a racing perspective....like I said before, had Quintana waited for the final climb yesterday things might have looked different...maybe he would have even been able to match Froome.....
