  1. Right ... let me just put this on quickly

    http://www.f150online.com/forums/members/johnnyd2723-albums-other-stuff-picture150998-flame-suit.jpg

    Ok ... here goes ....

For the past 3 months or so myself and my XC counterpart Nick have been hard at work building the Masters Worlds tracks at cascades for the upcoming Masters and Elite Worlds ....

so here is the scenario ....

In the first month ... Both of us get numerous emails and facebook messages etc from local Masters riders (over 30's) saying that they want the tracks to be tough ... like as tough as the Elite tracks ...

... so for the DH thats not much of an issue as the tracks are pretty similar the whole way down ... So i make the track pretty much the same (as does Nick in the XC side - although his track is different in length etc) ...

BUT ... then ... Okes start to come and practice on the unfinished courses and all hell breaks loose when they start ending themselves ... the guys who were wanting a demanding course now whine that the tracks are too hard or unsafe etc, as they cant ride the sections, or are riding them incorrectly as they dont know what the lines will be when its taped ...

So now i know you cant please everyone ... but when okes are going around changing portions of our tracks by taking out rocks etc (esp on the XC) ... i mean COME ON! ...

If you go overseas to race Masters Worlds in Norway next year - you have to ride whats put in front of you ... you don't whinge ... you just man up (or woman up) and ride the stuff ...

    So my QUESTION is ...

how did we (MTBers in general, both XC and DH), become such a bunch of "spoilt brats" that if a track etc is not to our liking we complain or even worse go and try and illegally change the track????

what happens when we all go overseas to race???

    ------------

BUT THEN AGAIN ..... we can take the criticism ... and the tracks are AMAZING now IMO ... and i am so looking forward to the racing in 2 weeks time .... I hope you all are too ....

Heres a link to a Promo video to get you all amped ...

Just remember its not gonna be a picnic!!! hahahaha

SEE YOU ALL IN 2 WEEKS!!!

    Dont forget you vuvuzelas!!!

    Cheers

    NIGE

    Hi Nigel,

Thanks for all the effort you guys put in... I rode the course, and from what I saw on Nick's U-tube video, it will only get better...!!

    WELL DONE GUYS!!

  2. I had the same problem on my 2010 Team Scalpel.

This was a manufacturing issue later sortel out with 2011 frames.

The problem: Stays were coated with paint(clear laquer) before the resin was paled on the stay, and subsequently pushe into the frame. Thus a lot of resin was not effectively bonding between the BB shell and the stay(I can suggest you look at your stays bonding to the rear drop outs as well?)

If you deside to stick them in again. make sure you clean both stays an the internal of the BBshell... the ad resin to both sides to be bonded, heat it up to get tacky then insert, and keep it tight...

If all else fails..... Buy a flash29er... similar travel(he hee)...but a lot less hasle....

  3. Leftys don't have any service issues, the only problems are owners not maintaining them...?

(Keeping them clean...it's simple, and you don't need to take the fork apart)

Leftys only got a bad rapp after a couple of Idiots jetwashed theirs everyday in the EPIC without lubing them, and that killed them...

Agreed!! Once you go Left, you will never look Right...!!!

  4. Latest ride magazine page 74 Shimano m520 spd pedals

They state and I quote "Contradictory as it may sound riding clipped in is safer than with flat (non clipped pedals." How can they state something so blatantly untrue, a bald faced outright lie. Are they being paid by the manufacturers or something. I'm sorry in my opinion there is no way that that statement holds true. Bear in mind that the article is aimed at those are going to try mountain biking for the first time. The general consensus has been get used to riding with flats first then move to clips ..personally I enjoy my riding so much more with flats I will probably never move to clips or spds or whatever the hell everyone else is supposedly using because its the done thing. To put a person off riding flats outright like that is just wrong ......Right now where is my flame suit ...ah there in the cupboard let me just get it on....

    Dear Mike,

If you can't ride with clips/SPDs, don't? The benefits are obvious, once you have mastered them...

If you can only ride flats, enjoy!

  5. No he he didn't cross, He's having problems on big front, small back... Which is your heaviest gear and chain is straight.

    only piece I can add...Chainguide.

But im no expert in gears

    - " the chain is slipping only when in big front Blade & Smallest Cog"

    - "Only slips when in the 26t blade to 11t cog"

For the bottom case it crosses, but initial statement, was what confused most.

Yes Initial statement was Big ring / 11t

But later he stated Small/ring 11t

Unless Skylark it trying to confuse us here...?

  6. Read this article from MTB Guru... Useful stuff:

    Momentum is your friend

Pedaling is hard work so you want to do as little as you can get away with. Look at that a little differently; if you want to get as much speed as possible from your efforts in the engine room, momentum is your friend. Once your bike is rolling you want to do all you can to maintain that speed and that means using your momentum.

    http://gallery.mailchimp.com/88ca9c3dbbe35ff6efc5284eb/images/momentum_friend.gif

Confused?... It’s all about planning ahead. For example, there is a steep rise on the trail a few meters ahead (Point C), and it’s too steep and too long to simply freewheel over. Most riders will freewheel till they start running out of momentum (Point B) and then scratch around in their gearbox to find the correct gear [you can hear this in most races when riders are caught out; crunch crunch as they powershift and tiny little pieces of their drive train brake off and lighten their bikes ;-)] and then start pedaling from the bottom, crunching down through the gears plodding and grinding to the top in a low gear.

    Or

You could boost your speed (Point A) before you hit the rise then stay in the higher gear speed up (Point B) and pedal out of the saddle maintaining your speed over the top (Point C). There are no prizes for guessing which is the faster way up and over, BUT the most surprising part is that the faster out the saddle effort is far more energy efficient than the low slow approach. By maintaining your speed you will hit the next section of the tail faster, giving you more forward momentum to attack whatever’s coming up next, this enables you to carry your speed on and on……..

Getting this approach right takes concentration and practice, but when you clear a fast section of single-track this way you will be able to feel the “flow”.

There are two keys to using momentum effectively:

    1.) Looking well ahead

2.)Pre-selecting the right gear. Finding yourself in the wrong gear wastes time, energy and forward momentum as you struggle to find the right gear – and crunching gearshifts aren’t great for your drive trains health either. Shift lightly when you’re not putting the power down and shift early by choosing your line and making decisions before the trail changes again.

(Click here to read how to shift correctly)

Next time we will chat about fork set-up

  7. Your 11 sprocket is worn out. You push big gears and use that sprocket a lot. An easy cure is to find an 11 from some other discarded cassette. Most people don't ever wear those.

You did not wear out the 11t, no one ever does....

You did however cross your chain, if the chain is warn(it sounds like it?) and you cross it (smallest ring to smallest cog) you dont have enough chain contact, and virtually no tension on the chain... Slip!!

My suggestion, ...think before you shift, and use your gears more wisely, don't cross the chain, that wears out the link plates...

  8. If you are reducing 29 to 27.5, you are sooo.....missing the point...?

It's not just a wheel size thingy here..

The bikes geometry will be totally out of whack, and your BB will be ploughing in the ground...

long stays for small wheels etc...

And the bike will look like an absolute "Wally Wheeler"

Which brings us back to GoodBadUgly's question:

"The biggest thing you will need is to the answer to the question: "But why???"

  9. So I'm a collector and just posted my 20 oldest pairs of Oakley sunglasses
